TikTok, WeChat to be pulled from US app stores as of September 20

I think the administration is going to learn a tough lesson regarding how difficult it actually is to enact a prohibition of this type in reality (not that they are huge fans of reality anyway).

Hoverboarding dentist gets 12 years in prison for fraud, unlawful dental acts

He is a victim of the deep state. That's right I'll say it...an-TEETH-a! I'll see myself out...

Microsoft declares its underwater data center test was a success

You don't have to break into the room, just the cables. We can do that already. :)

Oracle, one of Donald Trump’s favorite companies, wins TikTok deal

I'm just waiting to see what US company China takes over in response. I'm guessing people lauding this will be singing a different tune when China wets its beak on Apple....

AI ruined chess. Now it’s making the game beautiful again

This is pretty much it in a nutshell. Chess seems to be one of the few things that elicit this response. Weight lifters didn't stop trying once the forklift came around. Nobody has any existential angst because a motorcycle is faster than Usain Bolt. For many decades now the popular views on AI...

Western Digital is trying to redefine the word “RPM”

I guess gaming semantics is easier than creating a better product anymore. Jim, thanks for bringing these gymnastics to my attention so consistently.

Ignore the CDC, former top health experts say. Some states already have

How strange. Apparently ignoring experts is what both got us into this mess and now will theoretically get us out of it. A sad state of affairs for rational thought.

Review: The Old Guard is a solid thriller whose parts don’t add up to a whole

I think piercings always seem to get a pass from a continuity perspective, but I do agree with you. I feel the same way when I catch the occasional episode of Supergirl. Are kryptonite studs standard issue at the Piercing Pagoda? But nevertheless, it's still fun and fine. :)

"Once you've got your WSL2 VM up and running, it's a little exciting if you're a Linux person. For almost all intents and purposes, you've got yourself a real Linux system inside your Windows system, with fully native code including all kernel syscalls (not just some emulated APIs patched...

Chinese bank requires foreign firm to install app with covert backdoor

I don't disagree. But also other business partners (who are not so inclined) may also have their data exposed by this weak link introduced by less scrupulous partners unknowingly. It's not a s simple as "screw the guys doing it directly". But yes indeed, screw them too.

We bought Walmart’s $140 laptop so you wouldn’t have to

I thoroughly enjoyed this review. I would love to see a whole series of you reviewing ghastly systems like this. "Hitting the page file hard enough to qualify as a hate crime". Made me spit my coffee out. That being said, it is a shame that this didn't pan out as an option for folks even if it...
