Meta claims it will find other ways to hire employees from different backgrounds.
Like child labour, forced labour, or outright slavery, I guess...

Also, they'll likely redefine "different backgrounds" as something that enables them to hire only racists, fascists, and neo-nazis.

If I were a shareholder, I'd want them to focus on hiring the most qualified candidates, even if they're striped aliens from a species with three genders.

The problem with your idea is that the reality is people will consider those things with inherent bias.

You know who benfits from this? White, westernized culture. CIS White men, who, despite decades of saying "we only hire the best people" really mean:

"we only hire the best white males, and if a person of colour, different sexuality, nationality, or religion is better, we will hire the next better white guy. If those don't exist, we will hire our buddy from our sorority."

Weirdly, when companies say they just focus on qualifications and are race/gender/etc blind, what tends to happen is that the people doing the hiring hire mostly people who are like themselves.

Let me be blunt: You don't know what DEI initiative do. Period. Not a single clue.

Because the entire goal of DEI is to make sure that biases against color/gender/religion/nationality are recognized and removed as factors in the hiring decision. In other words, DEI makes sure that you are hiring the people with the best skills for the job. The most qualified candidates.

If you consider yourself to be a decent human being, please stop using Meta products. Because their owner isn’t.

I imagine FB and Instagrm are easy to ditch for most; but not WhatsApp. I wish there was an easy way to get the millions of WhatsApp users to swtich to an alternaitve.
