Perhaps you don't really need to keep in touch with as many people as you're now accustomed to. I don't use Facebook because I don't care what my classmates from twenty years ago are doing, what my friends cooked for dinner last night, or see photos of their kids doing this and that. I stay up to date with people who are currently an important part of my life. For the others, I find it really pleasant to sit down and catch up if I haven't seen them in a long time. It's not easy, but I'm doing my best. FB is a medium for keeping in touch with friends and family, and there's really no easy replacement. I've tried in the past. maybe private Bluesky profiles or groups might work.
Well there's also the slightly inconvenient fact that it's illegal. Just because you're discriminating against white people and men doesn't make it not discrimination.
Also, I want to point out that I deliberately didn't specify a particular demographic they are most like or attribute it to malice. This is just how people are. We seek out familiarity and comfort and a lot of the time that means faces that look like ours. Names that sound like ours. People who went the same school as us. Diversity initiatives serve to help us be aware of unconscious biases so that we actually consider the candidates on their merits.Weirdly, when companies say they just focus on qualifications and are race/gender/etc blind, what tends to happen is that the people doing the hiring hire mostly people who are like themselves.
Yes, it appears that they have never been part of a DEI hiring process. I'm in a liberal company in a very blue state. DEI means our HR take the time to strip name, age and other person info off any resumes so we just get a list of numbered applicants resumes with their education and history to judge them by. We typically have no clue to age or race until after we have already ranked them all and are having interviews with our top rated candidates.Let me be blunt: You don't know what DEI initiative do. Period. Not a single clue.
Because the entire goal of DEI is to make sure that biases against color/gender/religion/nationality are recognized and removed as factors in the hiring decision. In other words, DEI makes sure that you are hiring the people with the best skills for the job. The most qualified candidates.
That's what I have been saying. Putin took YEARS to intimidate and kill oligarchs, journalists, and anyone who crossed him, but Trump is not even in power yet. America is rolling over to a dictatorship at the speed of light, compared to Russia. I guess we peaked as a democracy, everyone is kind of tired of it.I was expecting the billionaire class to fall in line, but it's honestly kind of scary just how quickly they're doing it.
Then we should be reaching out to people of other skin colors and backgrounds besides just rich white people. Cause that's all DEI is: Reaching out to those traditionally underrepresented groups, broadening your talent pool.Since color/gender/religion/nationality are generally not relevant to one's job duties
That's easy: democratic politicians are spineless fucking babies who are categorically incapable of fighting corporations because they are fundamentally of a kind. Why don't corporations jump this high when democrats are in power?
Even if that were true (it's not; that's a complete fucking lie), the executives at any company are more expendable. The only thing that the DEI group at my company does is send out "_____ History Month!" emails.
They're the most expendable part of a company.
No, in practice too. You have no idea what you're talking about. In theory, sure. But not in practice.
Then your company is run by morons and you should quit. Every DEI program I've run into is run the right way, it's a combination of scrubbing out indicators on the applications and training people to recognize their own biases. And it works. If that was the way most DEI policies were implemented nobody would have an issue with them. It's not. Most DEI programs I've encountered, including the one at my own company rely on illegal quotas based on race or other identity features. This guarantees you will hire less qualified people because by definition you are hiring for something OTHER than merit.
That doesn't mean every DEI hire will be unqualified but it does guarantee that you will on average have less qualified people than if you did not have any DEI quotas. If you hire the best qualified people, sometimes you might get nothing but men, other times you might get only women, or only 1 race. If merit is what you're after, that's fine. Instead you automatically hire the 1 or 2 candidates who meet your identity quota regardless whether they have any relevant skills.
Except that the anti-DEI folks are outright claiming that to be qualified you have to be white and male. Start listening to them and and pretending you know what's going on.This also certainly does not imply that just because you're white or male that you're more qualified. Your race and any other identity characteristics are irrelevant to the job. If I'm hiring for an engineering role I will probably get mostly male and mostly white and asian applicants because that's demographic that tends to go into that field. If I'm hiring nurses I'll get mostly women. So it stands to reason that if I want the best candidates for the engineering job I'll be hiring mostly white and asian men. If I want the best qualified nurses I'll be hiring mostly women. To do otherwise pretty much guarantees less qualified people.
Nobody has ever, in any form, "discriminated against white people." Finding that you can't compete because minorities, when given a chance, are actually more talented than mediocre white guys, is not discrimination.Well there's also the slightly inconvenient fact that it's illegal. Just because you're discriminating against white people and men doesn't make it not discrimination.
Imagine being so racist and sexist that you think only straight white men should be considered for positions.Nature is healing. Order is being restored to the universe.
glad all the racist idiots are revealing themselves in these comments.
Nope. That comment was a flat out lie, which had literally no understanding whatsoever of what DEI is. It's nothing but pure right wing propaganda, just like your post is. We need less of it in the world. This comment being downvoted so heavily highlights the reason we need society to purge DEI and media censorship.
Don't you know? Straight, white men can never be failures. They can only be failed. Is that what you blame you being a failure on?
Any view beyond "I will accept the lowest salary you offer" is heresy to the Job Creators.I fail to see how including a diverse set of viewpoints is anything but a positive for any company, much less one focused on engineering, but I’m also not an MBA or a RWNJ, so what do I know?
He might have not said that, since there do not seem to be any original sources with that quote in English or Italian. https://politicalresearch.org/2005/01/12/mussolini-corporate-stateNobody should be surprised.
Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power -
Benito Mussolini
Yeah, it's pretty easy to tell who in this thread realizes - most likely only at a subconscious level - that they would have a much harder time competing in a world that didn't disadvantage 70+% of society for their benefit.glad all the racist idiots are revealing themselves in these comments.
Do you guys even know a conservative? It's sad to see so many negative comments. Folks, I don't know how so many can possibly believe this move is bad. It isn't. It's a move toward meritocracy. It's the opposite of racist. and it most definitely isn't fascist, Nazi, or so the other comments I've read. Do you guys even know a conservative? As in real life? Or am I commenting to bots?
He's a fucking invertebrate, no matter what the reason.Interesting that no one has made the suggestion here that he's bending the knee and pleasing Trump to get Trump to not save TikTok. He benefits massively from TikTok being kicked out of the US.
I recommend against engaging with the window lickers. Just take the opportunity to throw em on your ignore list, it's better that way.Do you guys even know a conservative?
How can we not? Trump hasn't shut the fuck up for 10 years.

Because unlike you, we aren't terrified of women or minorities taking our jobs or place in society if given equal opportunity. It's sad to see so many negative comments.
