Twitter Blue is coming back—with more colors and assurances from Musk

You're assuming he wants it to make money, and doesn't just want it as a tool for manipulating discourse and settling political scores. No one asks how much money their screwdriver made them last week.
At the rate he's going, it's not going to be a very useful tool for that, either.

I will believe Musk when he says things will happen, when they actually happen.
Exactly. Some of the talking points are actually not bad. E.g., I think every large social media platform should have some kind of formalized appeals process when it comes to dealing with bans and the like.

However, I have exactly zero trust in a Musk-run Twitter to implement in this in any kind of sensible way. Best case, it's going to be half-baked mess that will rely far too heavily on machine learning and automation to actually work with any tweets outside of the tiny bubble of subjects Musk cares about, worst case it's just a lie or a red herring.

You know... Key words like "Jew", "Replacement", and "Nationalist". Maybe a few other ones that Elon wants to keep.
It should be completely effective, because no one is smart enough to circumvent the childishly simple filters by using simple code words, like Hilter88.
"She also confirmed that Twitter would be relying more on automated content removal."
Do you remember a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, when Musk bought Tw#tter so he could get rid of bots, not promote them to content moderation?

Not every Twitter user was convinced that they could trust this messaging from Irwin, though. Tech reporter Tom McKay thanked Irwin for her transparency, but then Irwin stopped responding when he asked her what one “Twitter Files” journalist, Abigail Shrier, meant when she tweeted, “Our team was given extensive, unfiltered access to Twitter’s internal communications and systems.

On the one hand, Shrier is a lying shrew. So, at first, I kind of dismissed this as being more braggartly crap....

But??? After a think-thunk it dawned on me that Musk has that level of access and that became a rather frightful thought, so I thought it worthy of mentioning that it would be a very wise safety precaution for each of my fellow Arsians to remember it, and not share anything important in Twitler DM's. Don't even share work related things, but especially not anything personal.

Who knows what Musk is scouring for at this point with bulk Admin-level searches of DM's and things normally considered private??? Be safe gang, a'ight?

Musk brings back Twitter Blue with new features to prevent impersonation

I don't see anything in the Reuters article to suggest they are stopping impersonation of individuals. The colored marks make it harder to impersonate businesses or government agencies, but blue is still blue. Is there a new process for vetting those purchased blue checkmarks? Is there any staff left to check them? Seems like we will just have a repeat.
Musk only cares about advertisers and government to the extent that he is forced to do so by their economic and regulatory leverage.

For everyone else, it is to be a Battle Royale for reach and credibility. A huge part of the right-wing grievance against Twitter is that people pushing their viewpoints got filtered out. This is because they tend to be uninteresting, unlikeable or unable to follow the TOS. But they prefer to believe that Twitter was playing favorites, and without Twitter's thumb on the scale, their viewpoints will surely be embraced and amplified. Verification just pushes the narrative that people who are willing to associate their account with a real identity are more trustworthy than random trolls.

This idea that Elon Musk, the billionaire, doesn't care about making money is honestly so fucking comical to me.
There's a clip I've seen bandied about a lot where Elon literally says he doesn't care about the economics of it. That was before he owned the platform though. It's very obvious he very much does care, and even more obvious he has no idea that he's the root cause of all of Twitter's financial woes.

“Twitter is working on a software update that will show your true account status, so you know clearly if you’ve been shadowbanned, the reason why and how to appeal,” Musk tweeted.
He realizes the whole point of shadowbanning is to not give a tell that bots and trolls need to create new accounts right?

Why not just use all the colors?

"We got the information from Twitter! The user was sea foam green verified!"

"Well, we also got the information from Twitter, and our source is forest green verified!"

Later, I'll build a deck of black and blue verified twitter checkmarks to see how it plays against my buddy's black and red verified twitter checkmarks. He's low on mountains to tap so I'm hoping I can hit him with a few Vesuvan Doppelgangers early on before he can put together a big enough fireball.

When it is Plaid verification you know it will be the real-deal.

So New Twitter Blue 2.0 will get taken back down…what, Tuesday afternoon?

I mean, is there a more-watched public-facing software update out there right now? What are the odds that Twitter’s handful of sleep-deprived hardcore engineers with the pay problems and the sofa beds and the increasingly disgusting bathrooms have written well-thought-out code with no bugs?

Fuck. Now you've done it.

Pretty sure posts like this cause some sort of bat signal to go up somewhere.

It won't be long now before we're flooded with people telling us that Elon is, in fact, a software engineer, a mechanical engineer, a controls engineer, an industrial engineer, an engineer engineer, a rocket surgeon, a rocket scientist, and an astrophysicist.

“If the goal is transparency to build trust, why not just release everything without filter and let people judge for themselves?” Dorsey tweeted.
Uh sure. In a world where heavily armed, poorly-informed in-duh-viduals show up to investigate the basements of single-story pizzerias, we should trust people to have the 'common sense' to figure everything out for themselves. Not in this timeline.

I still think he bought Twitter mostly so he could read Grimes DMs.

But if they don't know they are shadowbanned how will they spend another $7 or $11 on a new verified account.

A bit more seriously. No he doesn't realize that, yet. Same as he still doesn't seem to understand that the reason that Twitter had that many people working on moderation was because automation just cannot handle it, it can do a fairly decent first pass, maybe even a second but a lot of that stuff needs humans just to figure out if that automation needs an update to counter the latest evolution in automoderation evasion.

Even better yet delete your account. We're here for you and I promise it will be alright.

Did Twitter/Musk explain how the new check system will prevent impersonation? Is there going to be more verification on Twitter's end besides "you gave us money?"
Pro tip: Like Trump, when Elon's lips are moving (Tweets), he's lying.

They should use shape + colour to denote information to aid those who are colourblind or have other vision issues.

But when has Musk ever cared about people with disabilities (or anyone other than himself).

Elon Musk cares about making people disabled.

He's also abusive from what it seems. Grimes was conflicted on ending communications with her Mom after Elon instructed her too.

It's sick to me hes able to fool people who are desperate into thinking he wants to cure people with disabilities with his animal skull drilling lab.
