Our long, long wait for NX information ends Thursday morning

Maybe it is me, but I more or less walking into this curbing my enthusiasm. I feel that the optics of the consumer (at least the one that it plugged in the daily grind of the industry) is wishing for a device that isn't going to happen.

Still, I am curious to what, if anything, Nintendo has up it's sleeve. The years that it has spent courting mobile developers will likely be coming to a head. I feel that it a lot more important that what happens in console gaming now, and I am not expecting a vast list of the usual suspects behind the machine (you know, your EA's, Bethesda's, Activision's, etc.).

I think that the only thing that I want out this... carts. DS style carts. I am just about done with optical media and I don't see the point of Nintendo bending over backwards to keep it. If they are going for a more portable form factor then there isn't much questioning that, Sony as already proven that idea to be much of a failure (Sorry PSP, love you... but UMD's can go to hell).
Outside of that, I have a few things that I am hoping to confirm not to happen. Chief among them is Nvidia, I don't see them using a Nvidia ARM chips if it is a portable since it would just be a bad idea.

Still, not really a massive wish-list on my end and I have been tempting the myself against anything wild when it came to rumors. So we'll have to see. That said, I am open to it given that I am undeserved by the rest of the industry.

Well, if mostly first party stuff means sales in excess of 100 million units again (the Wii), I think Nintendo can live without caring. :p

Will this be a Wii or a Wii U?

I will be happy with just a N64, but i do hope for the best(being a Wii)

Things don't have to be state-of-the-art to be impressive. I thought the weather demo was pretty cool looking, though I was expecting some fog effects to show up.

Oof.

This is Nintendo we're talking about. Similar to Apple, they don't attempt to compare themselves to the rest of the industry, they pride themselves on the overall experience.

So the fact that the technologies and methods being introduced are years old is immaterial - they're new to Nintendo and they fit the desired experience, so they're brilliant!!

The time listed on the Nintendo America site says 10 AM PT, am I missing something? Everyone is listing it as Eastern.. .. ..

Nintendo's website says "Tune in here at 7 a.m. PT" here right now, don't know where you're looking.

I find it worrying that it says "next HOME gaming system"...

Seems awesome, but I'm afraid the screens too big to fit in my pocket :'(. Oh well, maybe the 3DS line is sticking around for a little while since the Switch seems to be marketed as a home console mainly.

This trailer really does a great job of showing the "Continuum" inspired usefulness. Can we talk about how people were playing mario kart with only one "half" of the controller??

I'm probably going to head over to the ARS reveal thread.

If it's that small and portable, does it mean it'll likely be underpowered and possess underwhelming ergonomics? Just like the Wii, WiiU, DS and 3DS?

It definitely looks, to me, like a much better gimmick than the Wii's laggy motion controls or the Wii U's hideous tablet controller. Finally something that's not getting between the gamer and the game—kind of the opposite, actually.

Should be interesting to see how it develops and what kind of oomph it has... if any. And battery life is another concern...

Not surprised. It's basically tablet gaming... But so so SO much better! Finally I concept that works (knock on wood but my hopes are high, let's hope they get decent battery life on it).

So a coworker and I just watched and debated thoughts, and we came up with these points:

1) Switch: clever name, appropriate
2) Form Factor: usable, however size of the 'grips' to be used as individual controllers may prove a bit too small for normal size hands
3) Battery life: if it doesn't get at least 8 hours of life, non-starter
4) No showing of internet access, apps, etc. If they want this to replace the iPad Mini in my son's hands, they needs to have some basics such as various video apps; and the interface MUST be easy to use.
5) Chipset: no tech specs mentioned at all. And if they are using the Tegra X1, that thing is already 'old' and they could have issues in a few years.
6) Controller 'dock': very clever, and I like they are finally giving a 'real' controller again

Overall, I am excited but hesitant until I see way more. My coworker is 'not impressed' until he says a tech sheet and a lot more information.

Yeah, but I'll call it the same thing I've called every other system in the lineup. It's "a Nintendo." And if I get one, I'll once again be "playing Nintendo" on it.

There should be some wiggle room, or else the dock itself would scratch the screen. I doubt that would be a problem.

It's a tegra chip expected to match the PS4 and Xbone.

I never really felt that the Wii or Wii U's perceived lack of power impacted the games.

This actually looks promising! Rather than make another console that overly relies on gimmicky features Nintendo has opted to go for the convenience and ease of use that supporting many styles and ways of play can provide.
It got me at how many ways you can use the controllers and that you can use those side controllers for playing with a friend (On games with simpler controls)

Now all we need is a strong initial game lineup.

ackmondual[/url]":1b92yhzk]I sort of regret not getting a Wii U in 2013 when it wasn't doing too hot and some nice deals abounded. However, I still had a backlog of Wii, PC/Steam, Android, and iOS games. Many years later, I've gone through some of that backlog, but it still remains there. I doubt I'll get the NX, but still eager to see what's a brewing. Heck, if I have less will power than I thought, I may end up snagging myself an NX, or at least a Wii U when it gets another price reduction.

Ditto, every time I think about a WiiU (or a PS3) I remember how much I've picked up through the Humble Bundles and my burgeoning Steam pile as a result.
Gaah! I actually forgot about the games from Humble Bundle! Back for that post, I was only referring to games directly purchased through Steam or a few on optical disc I brought with me when I moved!

Seems like you care a lot about grammar then considering you used proper grammar in both instances!
