Just finished the book yesterday and was mightily impressed. I LOL'd long and hard at the author bio where he "lives in Canada's hinterlands"... wtf?! Edmonton is Alberta's freaking capital and only just in the north part of the province...

That aside, I liked the backstory. Want more... or the game. I'm not picky. Game preferrably, but I'd take more story too.

And with that, seems that IGN has a preview up of the Krogan and are going to be getting more info from BioWare on the race every Wednesday.

Linkage to <STRIKE>Battle Master Skarr</STRIKE> the Krogan

IGN Hands-on preview from E3 with the latest build of Mass Effect.

Apparently, it looks really really nice, but there are some hitches and framerate stutters here and there.

quote:

Though it looks good, it's clear that the extra months being put into the game before its November release. The game still has noticeable hitches that seem to occur most during camera changes and story sections. Characters will stutter or jump and the framerate occasionally drops.

BioWare's Greg Zeschuk explained to IGN where the game is in its development cycle and why the little bumps are still in the game. The content, he explained, is finished. However, since the game is entirely streaming, where you put the content on the DVD itself can effect how it runs. Placing everything in a place where it can easily load whenever it is needed is a tricky task and one the team is currently working on.

So apparently the big thing right now is figuring out where to put everything on the disc so it'll run smoother when streaming. Hopefully, they can fine tune this by November. I'm sure that the extra time will help them put the final spit and polish on the game for its release.

Stealth edit: Okay, we're talking about what class of Shephard you'll play... how about what Shephard choices you'll make (best way I can think of to describe it)? Are you going to be the "I'm mister tough guy who can do everything and does whatever it takes to get the job done... <strike>you can call me Jack Bauer</strike>" or are people going to play "Oh, look at the birds and the bees, and the bunnies and the fuzzy-wuzzy cute wittle animals which I must save and pwotect!" (...that sentence hurt to type....)? Or somewhere down the middle? Hard to really describe/ask I guess, as we don't have a ton of information on the choices that can be made but based on previous games you've played where you had the "choice" to be good or bad.

I'll probably switch back and forth between good/evil as the mood hits... I'm kinda fun that way! See what urge strikes me and then go with it! Although, a bad-ass no-holds-barred female Shepard?? When you go into the equipment screen a window will pop and say 'Recovered Items' - this is the stuff that was swiped from corpses. And by leveled loot, people mean the next number up. So, for example, you start with a Lancer I assault rifle (nod to Gears with that, I'm thinking) and then you can upgrade to a Lancer II or Lancer III or whatever IV with the next level having better stats. From what people have mentioned I'm assuming gear maxes at 'level' X as I haven't made it that far. I don't know/think there are any other uses than those two. Once again, I'm not that far in though, so I may be wrong.

For those mentioning they like the Mass Effect soundtrack, it's available for download via Sumthing Distribution. It's a very, very good deal as well. $9.99 for the downloadable soundtrack at 192 kbps with no DRM.

I picked up the Halo 3 OST from them the other day and was very pleased, but the ME OST wasn't up at the time. It is now, though!
