Ok. I'm in the group of people who finished the game. Whoo hoo -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif --

Anyway I've started going through it a second time with my original character. Things to note. I did get completionist first time through, I missed Level fifty by 4000 measly experience points. This annoyed me slightly. I did get scholar and tactician (surprised the hell outta me, but hey -- View image here: https://cdn.arstechnica.net/forum/smilies/biggrin.gif --)

Blah blah blah. So - lets talk about a few of the achievements. I got completionist just before I started the last set of main missions, so I figure I've seen probably 90% or more of the Paragon game. On my second playthrough I'm definately picking up the few things I did in the wrong order (yes, such things exsist - aka they make more sense done in a different order.)

Over-all, if I was to recommend a play route - pick up Liara, do Ferros, then Noveria, and on from there. Play side missions. Really, do it. Its fun. Or don't do it - thats your call. But you need to do a ton to have any chance in hell of maxing your character to 50 (max level first playthrough)

I'm fairly sure you can only get one Ally Achievement per playthrough, and when they mean the majority of the game, they aren't kidding. I had Ashley in my Party through every moment of the game it was possible to do so - and got her achievement - but I had Liara with me most of that (Left her out for Garius and Wrex's side missions) and so I figure you can get one max. I certainly could be wrong.

There are some charm/intimidate options you simply can't use on your first playthrough. Some of them require much higher charm/intimidate scores then a low level character can have.

Also, You get free points in Charm and Intimidate depending on your paragon/ renegade score, and when you replay the game with your first character, the paragon/renegade bars reset. But any free points you got last round stick around. For example - simply by becoming a spectre, you get a point in intimidate. When I started my replay and became a spectre again you get, another point. In theory, you could be nuts and max out your character in charm intimdate by playing the game 24 or so times with the same character. I'm not sure why you would. But you could.

The Rich achievement gives you access to the awesome spectre weapons from the Normandy. Its nice. Also - on second playthrough, those awesome weapons now have a bigger cousin. The X version. Infact, lots of X versions start dropping. Yay for leveled loot. And yay for awesomely highpowered weapons and armour.

I ended the first game with the max number of credits (1 credit short of a billion) and all your armour and weapons including those that were on party members do transfer. Not sure if the licenses did or not, but I assume so, because the one's I'm finding now are for companys I don't recognize and are much more expensive. Your equipment from your main actually duplicates itself once, and I think this is a minor bug, but I don't mind. You start the game wearing the armour you ended the game in, which is nice, because now I at least feel the badass I was supposed to be when I first started the last time -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif --

Anyway - if anyone has any questions about things they can't find, or second play throughs on a single character, let me know I'll see if I can help. (Side note - the X versions of the spectre weapons are so good, that with the proper mods, I'm going through and working at the assault rifle achievement with my Infiltrator. Who can't even train it. hasn't mattered yet. -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif --)

OK, where do I get the best biggest, baddest assed armour of all the systems? I got good armour, very good armour, but I'm after me some of the *BEST* armour you can lay your grubby mitts on. Right now, the stats for my armour is as follows:

Damage Protection: 77
Shields: 390
Tech Biotic Protection: 14

I want me some bad assery armour like the Spectre Master Gear <3 HMW.

P.S. I already have the Spectre Master Gear weaponry, I just want the armour.

Gah! I was sooo close on finishing the mineral quest. I only had one light metal left and couldn't find one! Plus, I had like 10 other minerals/metals in surplus from all the others. So frustrating. -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif --

Playing through with your level 50+ character on the unlocked difficulty isn't much harder yet.

I'm hoping creating a new character for insane will be close to the right difficulty level I want, provided I can make it past the first ten levels. -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif --

[EDIT] By the bye, if you do Liara very last of the mandatory missions, she's all delirious, and the dialogue is quite funny. -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif --

I finished the game tonight myself.

I'm fairly convinced the ally achievements are bugged.

I only very rarely didn't use Ashley yet didn't get the soldier achievement, and I'm certain I used Wrex since I got him except for Garruses side mission and I didn't get his either.

I did however get the completion achievement. No idea why I didn't at least get the soldier ally one.

A lot of light metals can be found on asteroids hidden in asteroid belts. They glint a bit if you keep your camera in the system view static. Some light metals are also on planets to be surveyed. The GameSpot Guide has a quite a few locations listed, so give that a go. I was also missing one in the end, and found it on one of the planets of the list.

And I also missed out on the ally achievements in spite of taking Ashely & Liara all the time (but I made the mistake of not picking up Liara as the 1st but 2nd mission).

I didn't know you could start again with an old character, but I've been playing about with both that and another new character.

I thought the game would be harder playing with an Infiltrator, stuck with a pistol, but upon creating my character (something I didn't pay much attention to the second time around!) I found that having finished with a Soldier first, I had a feat to choose, and that feat was Assault Rifles (maxed the assault rifle talents on my first go through, presumably that's what unlocks it). Naturally, my dude sucked with the AR, but I quickly got some stabilisers and didn't use any ammunition that hurts accuracy and by level 10-15 he's awesome with it, about standard fare but not 100% accurate like my maxed out soldier.

Neat touch no? Having tech AND an assault rifle was pure win, presumably hitting the talent caps for other things (like biotics, or tech) will unlock them for the soldier class as feats.

As for the side quests, I didn't use the citadel elevators much, cause it was usually quicker to watch the loading screen by using a transport terminal. So this time around I've got a heck of a lot more.

Strangely enough too, despite pumping points into intimidate, all but one of the intimidate options were greyed on my first play through. However, even with a charm score of only 3 my newest character is charming the pants off of everyone he comes across. Maybe this is something to do with finishing the game too.

But whatever, I'm gonna go back so sniping things now, since I've finally got a high enough sniper score to blast things accurately. I retract all claims that the sniper sucks, cause with an uber high calibre barrel and powerful incendiary ammunition it can down almost anything in one shot. Out of curiosity I fired it at both Armatures and Colossus and managed to almost kill the Armature in one shot, so my sniper rifle is more powerful than the Mako cannon! The Colossus however wasn't so cooperative, and only lost several bars of its shield, then shot me in the face while my weapon was overheated.

Pistols too are not to be underestimated. The pistols are super accurate and extremely powerful throughout the whole game, despite their low damage scores, and are very effective weapons at most ranges. Certainly makes it useful to play a biotic/tech class as you can still do decent damage but get better support abilities too.

I've started doing side quests and along my travels I've been to every part of the citadel and I'm still missing 2 Keepers for scans.

It's so frustrating because all that's left for me to do now is talk to the Elcor diplomat and Sha'ira and then become a Spectre and I don't want to leave Citadel until I've done all the questing in there.

I don't want to go into detail about which 19 I've found, but are there any in particularly hard places to find? No other RPG that I am aware of purposely limits the amount of enemies you get to kill except ones by Bioware. Every Japanese RPG in existence either uses a random encounter mechanic, thus making enemies as endless as you care to hang around, or respawns them when you leave the area and return. Started playing on Friday, then had to stop for all of Saturday (out of town) then played some more on Sunday. About 7-8 hours of gametime in. I finished the Novaris (Matriarch Benezia quest) and that was hella hard. My character is at level 20.

I love this game. Great story and rich world. Much better thought out than Knights of the Old Republic, if you ask me.

This game is amazingly good fun. I'm 15 hours in and have been playing through many of the side quests and whilst some things can be a little repetitive (e.g. the architecture on other planets - I just pretend to myself that these buildings are factory carbon copies) it's still a blast and the dialogue cracks me up (even the little things, like the pregnant woman and her brother in law in the Citadel, it's so camp!).

I'm now treating myself to the main plot missions, starting with Feros. All those Geth with their clickity-click dolphin sounds, the audio is amazing, and I have to say that after playing Halo 3 with it's weak super-soaker weapons it's a joy to hear my subwoofer rumble every time I fire off a shotgun round.

Still trying to work out what the best combo is for my team mates. I'm Vanguard and usually take Wrex (same skills as Vanguard) and the Quarian (Tech) along however Wrex is a bit on the dull side.

When playing through "Mass Effect" (now completed), the 360's frame rate looked like it dipped in the 15-20 fps range the during the battle following use of the "Neutron Purge". Thanks for the help! It was the one Keeper behind the Emporium that I didn't get, I just wandered off after the AI was disabled.

The levelled loot is awesome too, I'm pushing up level 45 now and I'm getting things like Inferno VIII rounds and Snowblinds. They're both just ultimate bullets of death.

As for the neutron purge slowdown, yes, I've had that too, and I also got it once or twice when attacked by a dozen or so Thorian Creepers. Best way is just to spam in a few grenades or go overkill and nuke them with a spray of assault rifle rounds while running.

Still not found these X variants of the Spectre weapons though, but I've not even hit level 50 yet so they might not appear until then.

I also noticed that your sniper rifle has a limited range, and the enemies don't. I was killing one of the crime bosses in the Dis system and I was trying to snipe from the Legion Of One point, using the Mako as cover, and even though my cursor was directly on the enemy my rounds did nothing - hit him a good 20-30 times just to make sure it wasn't my aim that was rubbish. In the end I got in my Mako and used the cannon to demolish the camps defences.

I don't think the sniper rifle has a limited range. Rather, the collision bodies for low Level-of-detail terrain differ from their graphic bodies.

I distinctly recall crouching on the peaks of mountains and sniping the blurry pixel tall enemies impossibly far away (I was really impressed that I was able to do this, and it made me forgive the blandness of the explorable planets a little bit.) At another point in the game, I died because an enemy sniper (one of those dangerous red laser scope guys) blasted me right through some terrain. The collision/graphics body discrepancy is something I have personally worked on on game projects, and so there is no doubt in my mind that that is what is going on here.

Where do you earn credits? Or is that a leveled thing? I just started really, level 10 and just left the citadel on my own for first time, but I have like no $$, to get cool weapons/armor, does that increase ever?
When people say leveled loot, do you mean stuff found in chests, or are you supposed to search bodies when you kill them (like oblivion)?
How the hell do I use omni gel??
