I'm so anti-spoilers I don't even own a TV.
If I'm watching a trailer and they start spoiling the movie I stop the trailer. Is ok that lots of people like to be spoiled and all but I don't see nothing wrong in putting a warning or tags just in case, and it should be the norm
I'm anti-spoiler as well, but I don't see how saying "In this game, you're a Dad of War" is much of a spoiler. We don't know what exactly he gets up to in Scandanavia (beyond scattering his wife's ashes). I hope it involves poking out Odin's other eye in the first stage, so they know who Kratos is. We'll encounter Thor in Dad of War 2.
The only problem is, when it's in games, it's usually Mayincatec rather than any discrete mythology. Like how Moana was Maori/Polynesian Islands/Hawaiian +ish.We played that ten years ago. Why do the same thing over again when they can try something new?"Kratos' early interactions with Atreus all amount to this kind of monosyllabic, condescending, tough-guy warrior-advice, which really grates after a while. The pair act less like father and son and more like a reluctant teacher with his uncooperative student."
Kratos being prwtty much like an warrior father of old instead of a whiny clingy helicopter dad like today? The terribleness.
I fucking hated the comic prince of Persia where they transformed the prince onto a wise cracking Nathan Drake and the princess into the stereotypical strong female character.
I want to have a game where a Mongol lord is gracious in battle but doesn't wax about the terribleness of War or inequality or any of those things Mongol lords definitely didn't give a damn about.
Which brings me to my next point... I'm very interested in the change of scenery for this game. I love the idea of Kratos being a shadowy figure moving throughout the various mythologies of history, doing the dirty work that no one wants to do and trying to preserve his independence. They've already announced that the next game will also be in the Norse mythology, but I'd be happy to see Kratos move again after that. Central/South America seem like an obvious choice, but there should be even more opportunities beyond.
Anything in particular in mind? At first I thought of ancient Egypt and their gods, but then I started to think that something more exotic would be cool and it would provide a neat way of teaching people of more foreign myths, like I dunno, some ancient Inca-stuff, maybe?
Writing this review and reading other available God of War reviews must be like passing a kidney stone for pc-only folk. LoL. Awesome game, most likely game of the decade. Kyle did his best to down play but failed.
The article mentions poor PS4 Pro performance, but doesn’t say anything about regular PS4. Does anyone know how it fares?
[edit]: According to Polygon:
For PS4 Pro users, God of War offers a display mode with 4K resolution, but it had frame-rate issues in our tests. The game was also tested by the Polygon team on a standard PS4 and exhibited no major performance issues.

He's not just saying "you are a dad of war"... I had to stop reading because he was telling how the child behaves in different situations, even telling/spoiling some phrases the boy says.
By showing me his point of view of the boy he's basically altering my experience of the game when I get to play it because I am now contaminated by that, I cannot unread it.
Maybe that's not a spoiler for you but it is for me; and lately Ars writers (even those who usually used spoiler tags) are forgetting about those so there's a lot of articles that I'd like to read and I just don't dare.
Yeah, if they can't talk about the plot of games (that have them) at all, how is it supposed to be a review? I mean, I don't think I, personally, would accept something entirely bland like "Some characters interacted. Some of the interactions were richer than others." That wouldn't be a review.I'm so anti-spoilers I don't even own a TV.

Disagreed. I've read plenty of scathing reviews just to find myself enjoying the thing very much. Just read it with critical thinking and with the lens of your own tastes. If you can't separate your own experience from a review then stop reading reviews. And the overall message is that the game is pretty good and worth buying, that's enough to me.
The change will draw immediate comparisons to Dark Souls and its legacy of tough-as-nails dungeon combat.
Even then, though, there's a lot of Dark Souls-style reflexive double-tapping to roll away at the first sign of telegraphed trouble.
I hesitate to jump into this thread, but will anyway and say I see both sides on this one. I also don't think this review is more spoilerific than other reviews here on Ars, so... Maybe stick to whatever review site you usually use?
Why does this sound intriguing to me?Maybe Barbie survival horror?
"All the original GOW fans are now having kids, lets retcon that "dead family" thing and make Kratos a dad.".
PC gaming is a religion. Has nothing to do with games. At all. Besides what I said has nothing to do with whether or not they could afford a console, it has to do with Kyle's salty review. " You can do much worse...". Really? That's the best he can come up with for the game of the century? Puh-lease!Writing this review and reading other available God of War reviews must be like passing a kidney stone for pc-only folk. LoL. Awesome game, most likely game of the decade. Kyle did his best to down play but failed.
I doubt people who are pc-only are worried. Given that any pc that can play games is going to be more expensive than a console, it is likely that those who have pcs worthy (i.e. not a netbook) of playing games could afford a console if they desired. That they don't own one is a direct statement on their interest in these types of games.
Your trolling is weak.

Hey, remember Kratos? You know, Kratos... the bloodthirsty Greek god in the God of War series who slaughtered thousands upon thousands of victims, both mortal and immortal, with an icy cold heart largely devoid of mercy?

Well... get this. What if Kratos had a kid sidekick? And what if that kid was a sickly, sensitive weakling? Wouldn't that just be crazy?
And.. Do yo know about spoiler warnings? Because... man! 20 lines in and I already know too much about the new character.
Really? Couldn't you at least throw a fkn warning?
You get that much information out of the twenty-second ad spot that Sony is airing. It's not a spoiler, its the entire hook for the game.

I love all the explanations the peasantry invents to explain why consoles are better despite being nothing more than underpowered PCs with bad controls and exclusive content deals.

Should I tell you that Jesus dies at the end of the Bible or did you plan to read it for yourself?

I seriously imagine every one of you that says "peasants" when referring to a freaking gaming console is living in their moms basement, 35 years old, doesn't even know what a woman is, much less touched one....
You sound ridiculous, stop. They're games, who cares what platform each other likes, it's the same as the Android/iPhone stupid talk
weapon upgrades (including one major one I'm not allowed to talk about yet)
Hint: Kratos uses Atreus as a missile weapon.
#1, it's $400 for the two.So you could spend $500 for a PS4 Pro and this game and you still don't even get a consistent >30fps?
Sheesh.

Yech, I'll pass on this game. Timidly tapping on a monster, then rolling and jumping back for two minutes until it stops twitching -then repeat until it dies away- is not my idea of fun gameplay.
Wasn't there a zombie apocalypse game like that? With a teenage girl protagonist.Barbie survival horror?
You know, that's not as crazy of an idea as you'd expect.
Part of the allure of horror games is dealing with being in a state of powerlessness. A blonde whose primary activity has been socialization and fashion will have some serious challenges with a psychotic, possibly undead serial killer, or a zombie apocalypse, or whatever.
Indeed, one of the defining tropes of horror works I've noticed is the 'beautiful young girl who dies' as a symbolism of a rejection by the monster(s) of virtues and/or society, and more practically to remind the audience that they are both a monster, and a threat to the protagonists.

Yeah, that series has a lot of fans, and I really tried to get into it, but I wasn't into all the POV switching and stuff, y'know? I hear it gets really trippy near the end of the series, though, kinda like Dark Tower stuff.Hey, remember Kratos? The end of the Bible? That's not even the end of the first book of the second series. There's, like, another two dozen books in the series after that. That's like saying "[character] gets stabbed in the leg in a duel with Jaime Lannister" is spoiling the end of the entire A Song of Ice and Fire book series or the entire Game of Thrones TV series.
Well you just explained why it was intriguing to me, answering my question.Barbie survival horror?

I loved the previous God of War - games when I played them on my ex's PS2 and then on my own PS3. I'm not going to buy a PS4 just for one game, so it makes me a sad panda to know that none of these games will ever come to PC![]()
