Doctors outraged after RFK Jr. fires leaders of key preventive medicine panel

Voting is great and all, but when you have one party dedicated to the idea of limiting who can vote, it's effectiveness really nosedives.
Is there even a point for someone living in say Louisiana to vote Democrat? Their voice will not be heard.

Honestly at this point secession keeps looking better.

RFK Jr. does not have medical training or a medical degree.

RFK Jr. is not a doctor. But he will play one at HHS.

RFK Jr told a committee that they shouldn't listen to him for medical advice...

.....

...and then went away and made medical decisions, overruling actual experts.

Today I learned that people suffering and dying from treatable-if-caught-early cancers are funny.

Fuck is wrong with you?
nothing at all. looking at the insanity of this and going "the hell is this" over and over and one can only break down and laugh.

chill, my man. I know the internet makes everyone Super Duper Serious Over Everything but sometimes one really does need to go "jeeeezus"

"We don't have the power to do anything, so we're going to do nothing, because we know anything we do will fail, and we're just wittle guys afwaid of failure 🥺🥺😢"

This what I hear every time I hear any variant of the "what do you want them to do, they don't have enough power" argument. I WANT THEM TO FUCKING TRY TO DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING, EVEN IF IT DOESN'T WORK. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
And every time I hear people like you say that, I want to know EXACTLY FUCKING WHAT DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO DO? WHAT EXACT FUCKING ACTIONS DO YOU WANT THEM TO TAKE?

Name one fucking thing that you want them to do that they are capable of doing, and are not currently doing.

Does it have to be legal?

How about push things like investigations, censures, and impeachment even if it fails? Speak out loudly and frequently (no, what they've been doing isn't enough)? Control the narrative? Promote younger, more outspoken candidates? Listen to the younger part of their party? Call a spade a spade and call fascism out by name? Don't cave on things like government shutdowns? Filibuster? Have local police defend against ICE? Hell, call on people to perform strikes or demonstrations at people's homes, instead of feel-good streetside, sign-holding protests. Instead of wasting time talking about "he can't do that", take your own actions, even when they're outside the system. Don't quit when your agency is pressured; fight back! Just because 'the rules' don't give official ways to push back doesn't mean they don't exist.

Be as disruptive as possible at as many levels as possible, to stop the system from functioning. Clearly, there are things we can be doing, because we always bitch about how disruptive the Republicans are when they aren't in power. So the idea that when we're the ones out of power, suddenly there's nothing we can do is bullshit.

Stopping at "the system won't let us do anything officially :(" is. Not. Good. Enough. Not at the current moment. Then again, Democrats are good at nothing if not failing to meet the moment. No, guess we better lie down because we technically aren't given the power to do anything, and just watch our democracy slip away. Better than acting outside the system or pushing outside your power, you're absolutely right. If we did something extreme, then what's the point in winning? We'd be no better than the literal fascists.

Tell us EXACTLY what "going on the offensive" means in this context.
Refuse to meet quorum unless RFK either changes course or is fired. Refuse to work with the administration until demands are met. We currently have enough members that the house could not meet if we simply refused to show up. We'd only have to flip a couple of seats (or republican candidates themselves) to do the same in the Senate.

No, the most accurate description is that these people are just pure evil. There is no other word for it. They are filled with hate and a desire to hurt others. But the worst part is, half the people in this country are just as evil and filled with hate.

Don't decieve yourself. It is not a small minortiy of people. If it was, the Republican party wouldn't be able to exist. I understand the nobody wants to admit this because it is too depressing and demoralizing to think about, but you can't solve a problem until you admit that you have a problem.

Spot on. The fact that elections are always as close to 50/50 as they are is evidence enough that half of the people in this country are deplorable. Of course, both sides think it's the OTHER side that is evil. On one side you've got people who want everyone to have access to healthcare and education, on the other side you've got pedophiles wanting to kill any minority or gay person. Completely morally equivalent.

This would be tenable if they weren't also pro-life. I think we can just hold to the theory of: stupidity and greed, as these despicable people tend to have some businesses that could profit from such awful decisions.

pro-life to them just means ways they can exert power over certain groups (women) and profit from them in specific ways.

There is a 100% chance that if Democrats do take power, either at the midterms or after his term, they will say we need to focus on 'moving forward' and will make no effort whatsoever to punish anyone in the Trump administration for what they did. In fact, they will probably cast those who support the ideas as 'divisive' and 'stuck in the past'. Watch.

I don't know where so many people are getting the idea that there will automatically be some kind of new Nuremberg trials after this administration is over. I guess it's just wishful thinking, but people need to realize our leaders aren't going to just hand that to us. Any consequences for those in the ruling class, even ones they may hate like Trump, increases the chance that their own actions will face consequences in the future. They desperately do not want to set that precedent. So things will continue 'as normal', and we will have to live with the new era of Trump conservatives for who-knows how long. I really, really hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.
Yeah the whole “they will pay for this” is delusional at this point. I assume it’s American exceptionalism to be able to ignore all of corrupt leaders in history and the numerous states being led by generations of kleptocratic dynasties as examples of what outcomes are possible.

I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I also just watched Biden’s DOJ not even get any of its numerous cases against Trump to trial. Fucking Jack Smith spent years doing nothing about January 6th. Trumps speech that day alone was enough to convict the fucker, yet he didn’t even try. After the election he said he had enough evidence to convict. Great, maybe you should have done something about it? At the very least release the info BEFORE the election.

This combined with the fact that 1/3 of the country are irredeemable fascists and another third are either too stupid or ignorant to interpret facts and evidence, much less have an actual opinion on what they want from their government. I genuinely don’t know how we’ve made it this far when 2/3 of the population seems incapable of tying their own shoes.

Voting is important, but even if Dems control both the House and the Senate (an unlikely scenario, currently), they will be far from the amount of control they would need to actually stop this madness (impeachment). Democrats at best can hope to slow down the madness, not stop it. The question is how much can they slow it down, which depends on whether they are able to win both the House and the Senate, or just the House.
You are right - but winning back both houses takes away Donald's carte blanche to corrupt as he pleases. AND it will go a long way to stop further voters rights encroachment. Then, we just have to make sure to vote again in 2028 to rid our nation of fascism.
Historically, once a nation fundamentally breaks the social contract around the peaceful transition of power (see: January 6), it’s actually quite difficult to vote people out who don’t believe in your principles.
Agree. A resounding defeat this Nov prevents a completely broken social contract! Our nation is still very salvageable. The worst we can do is to resort to violence or anarchy 'to inflict pain' - which will just give the fascists the perfect 'excuse' to clamp down.

Yes, yes, just let the system protect us from fascism, it's been great at doing that historically. Just look at how hard it was for Hitler to deal with all that pesky bureaucracy!

The thing is, it's all about what they have to gain. And locking up Trump and his cronies doesn't actually get them much. They won't be around long enough to capitalize on the goodwill it earns them, and it would piss off a solid 1/3 of this country. As a lawyer, it means a long, hard fight, likely filled with death threats from his followers. Better to get the evidence and wait until it's useless, then say you could convict. Or write a book about Trump's leanings towards fascism well after you could do anything about it.

These people are so isolated from the will of the people that expecting them to just 'do the right' thing isn't even laughable. They don't even know what the average person thinks 'the right thing' is, let alone care about our opinion. But even here, you can see it....just gotta wait until the system somehow solves all of this for us, god forbid we have to take any kind of action ourselves, or draw outside the lines at all.

I urge the current and former members of the US Preventive Services Task Force to meet independently of the administration and release their recommendations directly to the public.

You are all going to be fired anyway. Go down fighting.
Ah, but what if we resigned in protest? Surely that will make them think twice about this in the future!

How about push things like investigations,
How, exactly? They don’t have subpoena power as the minority party.

censures, and impeachment even if it fails?
They’ve already introduced articles of impeachment for several members of Trump’s cabinet. What next?

Speak out loudly and frequently
They absolutely are, even if you aren’t listening.

Control the narrative?
Exactly how?

Stopping at "the system won't let us do anything officially :(" is. Not. Good. Enough.
And again, WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU WANT THEM TO DO? Because several of the things you’re suggesting are already being done, but you don’t pay attention.

again, be specific. What “extreme” thing are you wanting them to do?

Refuse to meet quorum
And that will do what, exactly? Let Trump rule even more independently

Refuse to work with the administration
They already aren’t, and it doesn’t matter because Republicans control Congress.

And what, exactly would that do?

We'd only have to flip a couple of seats (or republican candidates themselves) to do the same in the Senate.
Good fucking luck with that. It didn’t happen when the government was shut down

Endlessly fascinating how much Americans specifically seem to debate vaccines, which every health body in the world reccomends and easily have benefit to risk ratios of hundreds of thousands to one, but breathlessly defend their right to perform surgery on healthily born babies for whatever obscure reasons when no major health body in the world reccomends it and it kills 100-200 babies a year

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-47292307
While there are certainly good arguments against circumcising babies the article you linked not only isn't about that subject, the young man who killed himself over a botched circumcision had it done as an adult. His parents didn't even know he had been curcumcized until after his death. In his case if he'd been curcumcized as a baby he'd probably still be alive, since he'd have grown up never knowing the difference. And he wouldn't have been a victim of what sounds like a truly horrible urologist.

If you want to argue your cause/belief you need to provide link(s) that actually support it.

At what point does "it's my body" becomes "your body is mine also" becomes "survival of the fittest chad" becomes straight-up eugenics with extra steps?

It's like they either assume people shouldn't love their weaker relatives or that the wealthy will straight up ignore all these health regressions impacting the rest of society.
