Capitol Assault Aftermath and US Domestic Terrorism

The Opening Arguments podcast implied that he was trying to make his testimony as boring and uncompelling as possible.

Microsoft Defender extends malware protection to macOS and Android—for a price

Not entirely true: it requires a Microsoft 365 Family or Personal subscription (your school account, for instance, won't work).

Capitol Assault Aftermath and US Domestic Terrorism

Can you provide a source for that? A quick Googling didn't turn up anything (or my Google Fu is weak, entirely possible).

Ukraine is game to you? Part deux.

Cite or retract. "People are saying" doesn't fly around here.

Gun Control (Spray yourself down when entering and exiting the thread)

Not to handwave it away, but addressing this is pretty much the entire focus of actuarial science. Whether it is a side effect or intentional, putting up even small roadblocks in front of gun ownership may significantly impact gun ownership rates (see research on "nudges"). In addition, it...

America's biased view on the police

So the implication is that this can be fixed via legislation. Is there model legislation that addresses these issues, and if so, why the hell is every state not putting it on their legislative agenda? (Apart from people promoting "back the blue" and "the thin blue line," but I don't know how...

The Shadow Docket of the US Supreme Court

Maybe that's their intention, to help keep those states red.

The Soap Box Misc Thread: Lawn Care Edition

Mea culpa...the original post just said "body armor" which I assumed meant no helmet.

The Soap Box Misc Thread: Lawn Care Edition

What sort of training did the security guard have? You shoot to end the threat (kill), not to incapacitate (though I suppose aiming for center mass is also part of the training since the head, presumably unarmored, is a harder target to hit).

Windows 11’s first yearly update is almost done—here’s what is (and isn’t) part of it

What about Windows 11 Education (which is very similar to Pro)?

AMD’s FSR 2.0 debut, while limited, has upscaled our GPU hopes

As an owner of a 2070, I am upset that Nvidia hasn't made resizable BAR available. I'm starting to notice a trend...

AMD updates Radeon GPU line: Higher clocks for three “50” suffix refreshes

Good to see that AMD is allowing previous cards to benefit from new versions of FSR...I keep hoping that Nvidia will roll out resizable BAR to my RTX 2070 (and other pre-3000 series RTX GPUs), but it seems unlikely.

    SCOTUS OT 2021

The Opening Arguments podcast just released an episode (patrons today, everyone else probably tomorrow) arguing that Justice Thomas should be impeached (knowing full well that he won't actually be removed).

Creeping Theocracy: Reproductive Rights in America

...which would concentrate Republican power in the states they left, since a state could have a population of one (well, two, I guess) and still have two Senators.

    Are you prepping for Coronavirus?

Interesting...I got a text from the CDC's v-safe program (which I signed up for when I got the J&J shot) over the weekend saying that I was eligible for a booster (and I confirmed that the program had recorded both my initial shot and my Moderna booster, the latter of which I got in late October...

What's the way forward for Democrats?

I don't think that SLABS are made up of public loans (outside of the FFEL), so Biden's debt forgiveness wouldn't affect them.

Portable monitors tested—which puny panels are worth it?

What about stands that allow for portrait mode (and the quality of the screen in portrait)? Nary a mention in the article, outside of noting that "other portable monitor stands allow for flatter positioning or even portrait mode" in describing the Lepow C2S.
