Burgers: to knead or not to knead? + Lamb-y burgs ...

That's not entirely true. If you both salt and knead the salt will denature some of the proteins and allow them to cross-link. I used to do this and couldn't understand why my burgers always shrunk into rubber balls when cooking. You can season and gently form, or knead and then season right...

Things you just watched on netflix/streaming video...spoilers all over the joint...

I'm late to the game on Severance, and I'm only 4 episodes in, but as someone who grew up Mormon the parallels to LDS history and culture so far are deeply unsettling.

Stranger Things Season 4 (Netflix Show, so spoilers for everything released!)

Will and Mike were definitely the weak links. Will is pretty good about looking scared and crying but is wooden otherwise, and Mike seems to only be confused or annoyed. Aside from them I thought everyone else did a great job.

Stranger Things Season 4 (Netflix Show, so spoilers for everything released!)

My 14 year-old son, who never swears in front of us, yelled "this is so fucking metal!". He started to apologize for swearing and we told him that he was 100% right and this was indeed so fucking metal.

What happened today that you liked?

Last day of work, got a week off until the new position starts. I've been here 10 years, so it's kinda weird. Wrapped up the last of the items on my checklist this morning, so I've just been killing time this afternoon. Feels like I should be asking people to sign my yearbook.

Lounge random thoughts/stories thread -- CURRENT

Last week with my current job, which has been mostly remote since Covid. We were discussing equipment return and my team lead just waved most of it away with a "don't care, you're the only mac user on the team, keep it all." Then I mentioned my chair. A lot of people took their office chairs...

We went bowling for Father's Day yesterday and I rolled a 167 on the first game despite not having bowled in a couple of years. Good to show these kids that I've still got it.

Things you just watched on netflix/streaming video...spoilers all over the joint...

The Bubble (on Netflix) was okay. It could have been much shorter, maybe about 30 minutes trimmed and it would have been a tight, funny comedy. Given the subject matter (actors stuck in a covid bubble endlessly shooting a shitty movie) I suppose there's something amusingly meta about the...

It's the Superman problem. Make a character so awesome and powerful that you have to spend all your time thinking of reasons they're not instantly solving whatever the issue is. That said, Season 4 is great.

I always knew my appendix would try to kill me someday

One of my favorite books when I was about 6 or 7 was a collection of short stories from the 1950's, called something like "True Tales of Courage and Adventure". I don't remember the exact title, but you get the drift. Lots of Age of Exploration, Man Against Wilderness, Survival Against All...

What happened today that you liked?

Just got a job offer that's 60% higher than my current salary, after only two days of job searching and applications. I have 3 more interviews scheduled for today, but this job is the one that was most interesting to me in my initial search, so I'm pretty jazzed. The sudden possibility that I...

    Everywhere Everything All At Once

I do love how the spoken song lyrics in the elevator kinda foreshadows the whole thing: your clothes never wear as well the next day your hair never falls in quite the same way Amazing movie. Had me and my wife laughing so hard we almost couldn't breathe, and then crying, and everything...

In this episode of 'Things That Piss Me Off'.........

Yeah, the stuff in this database is taken from patient history forms as well as actual testing. There's things in here like a particular brand of shoes this person thought they were allergic to. There's "THE SUN", "dust mights maybe, idk", "coffee straws", "blue mm's" and my personal favorite...

In this episode of 'Things That Piss Me Off'.........

Describing your patient database as "organic and home-grown" and then giggling does not make up for the fact that your shit is fucked. I would ask my IDE to diagram the structure, but I'm sincerely worried it would just scream and shoot itself in the head. The previous developer shared a query...
