Saw a nice 5 foot long king cobra on the path today.....leaving the garden area.
Rikki Tikki Tavi must be doing his job.
Which brings us to the inevitable, what does King Cobra taste like? Does it taste like rattlesnake, or more like a constrictor, like a boa or python? :)

I finished up the electrical work for a family friends newly finished basement, so that their kids can have a spot to study for their college classes, as well as a spot for her brother to stay while he gets his feet back under himself, without anyone involved having to deal with the schedules of anyone else. While there were complications, I'm happy to have it done, and to help the tiny humans towards an education.

Had a team meeting where several wins were disclosed. People often wonder what a game developer needs with a legal department. The answer this week was "fuck around with us and find out".

Also, we have people who are scary good at locating people who think they've been good at covering their tracks.

Endless gutter people are here today, after two days of rain. Now all water off the roof will go into the drainage system that I spent the last month installing pipes for. We are supposed to see more rain for the next week, so I am pretty stoked for this.

Also, I have been training/practicing coding lately, and I forgot how much I love this stuff. Since my job is evolving towards IaC even more than it already has, this coincides nicely with my career goals.

On different social media sites two non-Arsian friends shared photos.. *note a good number of my friends esp. Arsians regularly share stunning photos and I'm always in awe of them from regulars in the Audio/Visual club and Lounge forums, to those like Searchy who share his works in other parts of the internet that he inhabits/communicates with esp. those very local to him.. so this post is not to deter or take from your wonderfulness in how I perceive your awesome works.

One was a friend who unfortunately was mourning the death of a person they helped raise, so they've been sad last week or two... but while grieving they went to their Haida home island and recently (as they've been feeling better and due to responsibilities heading back to mainland Canada).. been sharing incredibly beautiful pictures from one of the Haida Gwaii islands (after checking if the area is publicly accessible / "I think" I'm totally not sure, I know Canada doesn't do the Reservation/Quasi Fed level Govt thing in how they handle First Nations.. but I think there are public areas) Skidegate (area). Basically imagine NW coastal forest images from the forest level. Quite stunning.

Another is from a friend who has a bit of a BDSM blood fetish and of coures likes to share photos of them experiencing it (not my other friend who likes to buy human blood and bathe in it and also likes to photo themselves in it) and well.. I can't remember when this round/cycle of such photos started (at least months vs when they just share their Shibari (Japanese rope) stuff - it bounces back and forth ) but just now.. I was stunned when they were showing a really nice contemporary tasteful (good lighting, indoor placed) themed photo they just took of a model for professional / competitive reasons. :) It was really nice, I mean I know they do good job in the photography arena and share that on their professional page (admittedly I keep forgetting they have), but it was just a nice break when they shared it on their personal page.

Anyway both were unexpected. :)

Gutter gents are back to finish the job, and the people are here to coat the concrete deck around the pool. Now I need the people who are doing the rock wall to show up, and all of our contractors will be onsite at once. :D

The delicate work of repairing rotten window frames is falling on me and my wife. She is exhibiting an unexpected talent for using Wood Epox, so said talent combined with my own DIY home improvement skills are synergizing nicely. :)

Trying to bright-side a "glass is half-full of poison" sort of day, I'm once again loving the company I work for. They immediately put out an email introducing a benefit where employees in states with restrictions on health care that is legal in other states can have all their travel expenses reimbursed in order to get said health care in another state. They also listed out a few choice non-profits that people can donate to, reminding us that they match donations 1:1.

Good job to them. I suspect (hope) there will be a lot of that coming out in the near future.

My employer pays its' "associate" people pretty well for retail - my starting wage here was a bit more than I made after 6-1/2 years at my previous employer. They do equally well by management, also. And it's been regularly made clear to me since we opened (I was Day One at this location) that I'd be getting the first available management opening. It's a logical choice; I've over a decade and a half, 9 years of that as management, in this specific retail niche and would likely have been hired as management had I gotten to them soon enough.

The position has become available. Hello, 33% raise (plus bonus and we always qualify for bonus). Don't mind if I do.

I've earned it.

Thank you all for the kind words.

It's really a good situation for me, because we're physically small enough (~15k sq ft here) to not need "traditional" management functions below the top 3 in the building, while still needing more than 3 to have keys and responsibility to own the building when they're there, and that's my slot. The additional real-world responsibilities are trivially within my scope of existing skill, and the system requires me to kick the stuff I already don't like up the chain to the people who are tasked with solving those problems while still being afforded the opportunity to lead which is what I want and have been doing anyways. I don't want the authority. I just want the responsibility, as I told a certain other Arsian some ten years ago in a different situation.

This does not suck. I am happy.

That is fucking fantastic news. You sure as hell have earned it by your strength and smarts and endurance.

Piling on the congratulations. I'm sure a lot of institutions would be better with SuperDaves in positions of authority.

It is a beautiful June day here. It's been a lovely month to have the windows open almost all the time, but the black flies have receded this week and now it's just as nice to be outdoors. There's a heatwave coming tomorrow, but that's okay. It will be a good excuse to go sit in the river and have a gin and tonic.

Couple of leads on new jobs that seem worthwhile on the face of it.

Still waiting to hear from my biz partner about them securing operational funding to pay me back what is owed (and which is climbing steadily per day now). He seemed pretty optimistic that today would be the day. Some odd transactional security requirements between him/us and the new investor company. That's about a year worth of take home pay for me.

In general, my optimism has returned and I have the luxury of being selective in my job search.

I couldn't_fucking_stand the black flies in Vermont; they were an utter pestilence which attempted to ruin the experience of living in my ancestral home.

Then I moved to South Jersey, and was introduced to green flies, at which point it became "how cute." Count your blessings, brother. It gets worse. A mile and a half offshore, just trying to drop a line into the ocean seeking a fish, and these motherfuckers are still trying to sink fangs into your flesh while you do it. It only hurts a little until fifty of them succeed.

GAH!!! I HATED THOSE LITTLE SHITS!

But I still liked South Jersey and Ocean City Maryland areas.

Congrats SuperDave. You’ve definitely paid your dues.
(Hearing about your promotion is also one of the things that I like today)

On the other things I liked:
Received an Amazon delivery. Opened the package. Saw what was inside.
Said to myself, “ how’d they manage to send me “x”, when I ordered “y”?

Checked my orders, to set up a return.
Realized that some idiot actually ordered “y” instead of “x”.

Also:
“Not returnable”.

Contacted CS to see about an exception as the items are still sealed.
Instead, they offered a full refund, even though it was my error.

There was much rejoicing.

Congrats SD, I bet you’d be a fine manager to work for. Your posts always carry a positive team attitude about your professional accomplishments and I bet that your coworkers enjoy being part of that hui (or hate your guts for being so good, but that’s on them, heh). wage increase is sounding fantastic as well. You needed bigger speaker cones, right? RIGHT?

I hate home improvement stores because I never manage to get the SDs when I need assisstance it's always the person who you can just hear looking at you with the biggest sigh imaginable when you ask for help. It's honestly enough to keep me out of the damn places unless I absolutely need to go to one. So it's great to hear that when one of the handful of actually good employees gets recognized and rewarded. Congrats SD.

We’re spending our first weekend this year on the boat. It’s pretty much the first weekend when it’s been over 70 degrees. We decided to just hang out on it, so there’s no worrying about whether she’ll start or break down, or we’ll get a spot where we want to go, or if a wind gust will send us into another boat while docking, or OMG I’m spending how much per minute on gas? :flail:

Spent almost the whole day cleaning her from all the dirt and green stuff that grew on her over the winter. Every part of me is sore, but she looks so purdy.
