They're actually cousins, I believe. I used to see a lot more of John back in my Usenet days, and that came up a lot.

I should say I make no claim to actually know John Baez, or his cousin, but I was on some of the same Usenet groups. Mostly a.r.k. But I did occasionally hang out in the sci.phys hierarchy.

Oddly, I thought I'd checked to see if they're related. I looked at his Wikipedia entry and didn't see it. I think I must have looked at the "early life" section and not noticed there was also a "family" section, which mentioned her. Apparently, her father, a physicist, was his uncle. Not terribly surprising. It's a pretty uncommon name, they're both from Xlaifornia, etc.
