That's a great idea. The speculation and bullshitting on the Westworld subreddit was fucking insufferable in S1. I realized I didn't hate the twist at the end so much as I hated all the people analyzing everything to death to predict it ahead of time. It totally ruined the show's mystery.

Wait if you hate all that and it ruined the shows mystery then why read endless reddit threads about it?

I just watched the show. Annoying unlike netflix you can't binge watch it so we waited until the season was almost done before starting it so we could watch at our own pace. We came up with our own (mostly wrong) theories.

Did you consider just not reading the subreddit anymore?

If you like that sort of community TV show thing, cool, but if it was irritating you then ... just stop reading it.

The problem with spoiling it on a Subreddit will be that the spoilers end up everywhere. Why would HBO ever entertain a notion for what is probably such a minority of viewers?

This will be troll bait galore.

Yeah I got to imagine 4chan or somebody right now is using bots to spin up 100,000 new accounts to grief watchers of the show.

The problem with this plan is that there will be people who intentionally post spoilers outside of the westworld subreddit, and on social media in general, with the sole intention of spoiling the show for people that do not want to be spoiled. These people are also known as human garbage. It happened with the last 2 star wars movies on reddit. You had people putting star wars spoilers in the freaking post tag. This is why we can't have nice things.

I did do that. I still wanted to take part in discussions, though. The constant blathering and argument back and forth was annoying as all hell so I just had to disengage at a certain point.

Quitting reddit is like quitting facebook; everyone says they're going to do it, but few actually follow through.

Idk. The last GoT season was completely spoiled beforehand, and I didn't run into any of those spoilers until I wanted to. I assume that Westworld had the same issue. At some point, one of the many editors/script writers/coffee boys/etc will leak either the script or all of the plot points. The idea here is to get them out officially.

Maintaining tight enough infosec to keep leaks from happening is impossible nowadays. I think this is a risky but potentially brilliant experiment to head off the dribble of maybe-bullshit in favor of official info.

It might utterly fail, but no one's tried before and I think it could work despite all our expectations.

I find that increasingly with the new Star Wars trilogy and Game of Thrones seasons (and of course, ASOIAF). It hypes up fans before the release but it ends up disappointing people that their fan theories weren't always correct. So they end up crashing the new releases because it didn't live up to their expectation.

Not really. With Facebook, I have real life family & friends who all communicate with each other through it, so without a Facebook account, I end up being out of the loop.

With Reddit, there's just no reason for me to ever go there. The few times I've been linked to Reddit threads from a Google search, I've found the site layout quite irritating, and had no desire to spend any more time there than necessary, so I "quit" Reddit by never joining in the first place, and really don't feel like I'm missing much.

We did basically the same thing but watched the episodes as they were released because we don't trust our friends not to spoil things, even unintentionally. Waiting till near the end of the season would have been too much risk...

After finishing the season, I did spend a bit of time reading through theories out of curiosity and for the LOLZ (some were just hilariously way off).

Really depends on your approach. For all it’s downsides slow releases do somewhat keep the community on the same page.

Plus HBO has more of a quality versus throw a bunch of shit at a wall and see what sticks approach taken by Netflix. If HBO were to release all at once they’d likely quickly find people subscribing for a month and bouncing out.

Edit: On another note I’m pretty sure they realized the community would be split making getting 1000 upvotes unlikely.

Compared to a leak, what does getting them out officially accomplish other than confirming and officially condoning their distribution?

Anyway, I guess if they do end up releasing one, it’s just as likely their video would be fake

So just don't go to the subreddit!

Don't nuke the entire internet with the sodding script making it virtually impossible for normal people to simply watch and enjoy, Christ on a bike

I had a pet theory: there are no robots, they are all humans. Hey it's a lot easier to just clone a bunch of slaves and screw with them by telling them they're robots than to go to all the damn trouble of making humanoid robots. Westworld could be staffed by current technology available right now - humans can be cloned. The robotic AI stuff is still way in the future, if ever possible.

HBO can feel free to use that as one of their insane foilers.
