Pretty much. After more than a year with the DK2 and after having tried higher-res demo units (Crescent Bay) at shows, I was ready to drop the money for the consumer version sight-unseen. But that's because I know how much enjoyment I've gotten out of the DK2 already. This price point makes it a hard sell unless you are already certain you want one.

We don't all have that Ars Tech skrilla.

For that sort of price tag, I want to know that it's going to be usable with the kind of games I want to play, and more importantly, how well it does so. For instance, can I use it in something like Fallout 4? And how well does it perform? For me at least, it needs to do more than just work with games specifically designed for it.

If you are waiting for a VR device that will support non-VR software you should just give up and go home. It's like demanding that your vinyl record player be able to support color TV. They are just completely different paradigms.

It is reasonable to wait for a lot more VR content, and certainly not an impulse buy.

I'm using a freefly headset to play fallout 4 right now in a large head mount display as well as all my other games and it's wonderful. Not sure why you wouldn't have the same option with a rift.
