I have a gut feeling it's more sort of 'sitting' on something around the far side of the dish support, which we can't see in the photo. I wonder if there are pictures from other angles?
No, it looks about that same from both sides - only supported by its connection to the main tower building.

That's an interesting choice. The D5 is a sports and wildlife camera, with a design focused on high performance autofocus for tracking fast moving subjects and high burst rates.
It was selected because it is an older technology that is already known to withstand the higher radiation environment of space. The Z9 was a late addition to test as it was scheduled for the Artemis III mission.

all are damage to the original data.
I disagree with the characterization of those changes as damage. When the purpose is to reproduce what a person would see if there, processing the sensor capture to shift the image towards a correct representation is just part of the purpose of the system. (Of course, it is different if the data being captured in the purpose and the processing is to make it more comprehensible to humans.)
