Didn't think I'd be doing to Mexico to get my vaccines, but here we are...
Mexico has it's own vaccine problems regarding Covid largely related to which types of shots are available (manufacturer/mRNA vs Viral Vector, etc). My aunt and others from the expat community she lives in all come to the US to get their new Covid shots each season.

We can barely handle the supply for ourselves, please stay at home.
Seems like it wouldn't be hard for Canada to reserve supply for everyone with a Canadian healthcare card to cover citizens, then release extra doses for anyone willing to pay out of pocket for it, they can even charge a premium to offset the cost of shots for citizens.

And to think this is the outcome MORE than half of voters were on board with last November. I guess voters are getting what they deserve, but I wish they deserved better.
It's not "deserve". It's what they demanded and got.

I will refuse to forgive people who wanted all of this, got exactly this, and got harmed by it. They touched the stove before and guess what? It's even hotter now.

By their own admission, AT LEAST 40% of the American population (obese) is high-risk and would warrant getting a shot. Asthma is about 8%, 4% pregnant, 8% depression, 11% diabetes, heart conditions could be anywhere from 10-40% depending on what that means..... and while some people clearly have multiple of these, I think it's safe to say that over HALF the population would be eligible for the COVID vaccine. So why go through the trouble of denying it to anyone?

These people are bonkers.

the fact that you have, in january this year, 14% of democrats, and 26% of people that think that the vaccine is (probably) harmful is extremely worrying. The situation is certainly not different in most of countries heavy influenced by USA.
IMO the underlying problem is that so few people have any idea how bad the diseases are that vaccines prevent (because they've lived in the healthy society built by vaccines), that if they think they need to be anti-vax as a sort of article of faith, they see no downside. It's mere political theater to them. As far as they're concerned, measles doesn't really hurt anyone -- not in their experience, it hasn't. That 26% is "just" vice signaling, but it has the same impact as an informed opinion.

As someone who had a severe adverse reaction to the covid vaccine, I still think it's incredibly stupid to prevent other people from being able to get it.

Just because something doesn't have a 100% efficacy rate doesn't mean it can't be highly useful from a public health perspective. Also, like everything else related to medicine... why not just let doctors make the decision about a patient's care instead of unmedically trained politicians?

I vaguely recall reading many years ago about a PhD(I think) that went to work for tobacco companies actually wanting to help design a "safer" cigarette or better one. Then he found out how really fucked up the companies were from the inside and tried to find a job back in the market and couldn't because no one wanted to work with him because he had worked for tobacco, so he got stuck working for them.* I'd like to think the same thing will happen to the people who work under Trump. I know it won't, but it's nice to dream sometimes.

* I maybe misremembering the details, so please correct me if you know who I'm thinking of.

Are there any models available how Covid will develop in the USA without vaccination? Some percentage has had Covid or old vaccinations and therefore some protection. Some have low protection. A certain percentage of the population has Covid. If the percentage grows more people will get protection. If the percentage shrinks the protection shrinks. Will this go to a very stable state (x get ill, y die, year after year, just the right number to keep protection constant, or will it go up and down in waves? What happens with a mutation?)

Gods help us if we have another pandemic in the next three years because these dishonest fuckers sure won't.

Yeah, it'll be terrible and tragic.

Emerging superbugs are definitely high on the list. New COVID strains are also high on the list. And good old-fashioned diseases are also quite popular: tuberculosis, small pox, cholera. ???

COVID and MAGA's handling of it taught me many things. One of those things is that I need to move out of the city and settle in to some prepping. Actively pursuing that now.

If disease doesn't get you, then violence will. It's going to get ugly.

The lesson of "tariffs" will also fall onto the "well we've had it good so far, and will continue to do so".

And National Parks will simply remain clean and safe and well maintained, and thunderstorm and tornado warnings will just pop up on their phones, and Social Security and VA and Medicare checks just appear in their bank accounts, all without human intervention. Air traffic controllers will never get tired or stressed out or overworked, and VA appointments will always be available, and their kids will keep getting IEP services out of the goodness of their schools' hearts. They can all fuck around and never find out, because the only parts of government that are going to stop working are the ones they personally dislike and don't approve of or aren't aware of or don't use. After all, he only means the things he says that they agree with.

The best example I can think of is a guy who was shooting off his mouth on the forums for an organization for patients with my mom's weird form of lymphoma. Pinche guey was absolutely adamant, just exasperated and condescending and completely sure of himself, that Trump wouldn't fuck with the grants that fund the long-term studies and programs that help cover the $30k medication they're either on or desperately want to be taking. That's not the kind of thing they're getting the chainsaw out for! See, that's just for waste, fraud, and abuse! Y'all are just haters! He said! Nobody's going to cut funding for.....wait shit shit shit whaddya mean I was denied? I can't be denied! The study was cancelled? But I was supposed to be on that study. ME! Why would they cancel MY study? No more NIH grants? NO WAIT WAT SHIT THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO AFFECT ME THERE MUST BE SOME KIND OF MISTAKE

Wouldn't be surprised to find friends and family of Republicans will be up on all their shots and except from this madness.

Then there's 'inactivity' (I'm in IT; I qualify there) and smoker: current/former (I've smoked in the past; I qualify).

It's fucking lunacy to begin with but the carve outs are the size of subway tunnels.

There's going to be a lot of grave dancing in the coming years.
