Sorta... the floor touching the ground is "Ground Floor" and not "0th Floor". The one above that is 1st floor. Here in the USA, we just say 1st is on the ground and number them going up.

It's like that in most of Europe, not just the UK though.
It's like that in Malaysia too (British colony). Drives me nuts. They have Ground Floor, and Lower Ground Floor, and things like that. I always expect to end up in a parking garage when pressing G as an elevator button... have to remember that pressing 1 wont get me where I want to go.
Yeah, it's like that in most of the civilised world. Spot the odd one out? (hint, it's always that one guy...) :D

Same fuckers still using imperial >_<

FTFY. ;)

Really, the question Crombie is asking is "Seriously, this is a tech forum... do people really use other browsers besides Chrome?". To which the answer is, yes. Quite a lot of us use several different browsers not made by google :p
Yeah, according to the most recent article on the matter, almost three quarters of us don't. :p

This happened to me far too many times for comfort during high school....

Frankly, I'm surprised the pole didn't break... that's what it did on me more times than not.

That's really dumb. :p

Ever been in an elevator in North America with both a G and an M? Which one do you hit to get out at ground level?

G for Ground? Or is it Garage?
M for Main, or is it Mezzanine?
I get really pissed that I can't just get off at 1 and leave the building and get on with my life.

There's a small but growing number of buildings which do actually have a 0th floor as ground. I've been looking at apartments recently, and I'd really like to buy one in a building that has its lift marked with -2 (underground carpark, lower level), -1 (...and upper level), 0 (ground), 1, 2, 3 etc - largely on the strength of that numbering system :)

Not everywhere in the States. Chicago does it the same way as Europe, I wouldn't be surprised of other areas did as well.
I was kinda confused by that comic panel. Ground / Garden apartments are never the first floor. I assumed everyone in the US did this, guess not (wooo Chicago).

That happened to my chemistry lab partner in high school. Only when the pole snapped, it whipped into his face, shattered his jaw and knocked out half his teeth. He went to prom with some weird contraption around his face, and had to eat his dinner through a straw. He did get plenty of sympathy dances from cute girls though.

The one with the star beside it as required by the ADA.

Yeah, I bet... those things have a TON of energy stored up in them. When one of mine broke on me once, it sprung back into my thigh. I had a football-sized purple bruise for a month...

So what is the proper technique for dismounting when the jump is obviously full of fail?
You pray to whatever god(s) you believe in and try to land on your feet :p

I've been flung up into the air, flung 20' back, fallen 14' down into the steel planting box, breaking off my steel cleats.... lots of fun.

Seriously, though... there's just no predicting what's going to happen, so you just hope for the best. Better yet, you make sure that you get up enough speed to get through your plant :D

<ChrisLMB> : If any of my employees did that they'd be fired instantly.
<Ben174> : Where u work?
<ChrisLMB> : I'm the CTO at LowerMyBills.com
*** Ben174 (BenWright@TeraPro33-41.LowerMyBills.com) Quit (Leaving)

Code:
<_kr4m3r> so many fucking criminals, its bullshit
<foniks`> heh, if we sent all the criminals to some empty continent and just left them there to die
<foniks`> and showed up like 50yrs later like, "sup?"
<foniks`> whatd u think they'd say?
<FoSZoR[bg]> something along the lines of, "G`Day mate"

Shouldn't your numbers go -1,-2,-3,-4...?

:p
