Wait. Was that not James Earl Jones doing the narration about spiders' life cycles? What's his role in the film?

Or is he only in the trailer?
From the cast list, I think it was likely Tramell Tillman, in his undisclosed role that sounds like it could be Morpheus pretending to be a biologist.

We’ve got an official trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the follow-up to 2021’s No Way Home that is purportedly intended to launch a fresh trilogy of films with Tom Holland in the title role.
Another trilogy? Has there ever been a fourth film in a Spider-Man series or would that cause the world to end?

[edit]
Hang on a tick.

2026 - Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day
4? Which is right?

I hope to eventually watch:
Spider-Man: Home, Home on the Range
Spider-Man: The Voyage Home
Spider-Man: Home and Away

[edit 2]
Even I did it! It appears Spider-Man naturally gravitates to threes.

Do with this information whatever you like.
Then I shall mention that commers is not a real word.

I'm too old to let elitist snobbery stop me from appreciating the opportunity to share his boyhood with him.
Ah, a film reference! (Animated gif in spoiler tags to not disturb readers.)

You know how it has been pointed out that Mark Hamill was older when he appeared in The Last Jedi than Sir Alec was for Star Wars?

I'm that old, yes :)

I have really liked the Tom Holland era of Spider-Man.
I hear you there. He embodied the innocence of the character. Toby did in the first two, then Spiderman 3 was written on coke or something.

Hollywood won't take chances with new things, unless it's a variation of something that's always worked.

I didn’t love No Way Home, although it was entertaining and enjoyable, and it was fun seeing all the other incarnations of Spider-Man across the multiverse make cameos. Story-wise, though, it was the weakest of the Holland Spidey films.
Funny, I just watched this over the weekend, and I think it might be the best MCU movie.

Having seen zero Star Wars films, series, or cookery books (I've been busy), I was unaware.

Since Cracked also say that, it must be true!

Which means...

O_O

Mark Hamill is older now than he was in the new Star Wars trilogy!

Considering both characters have been around since the 1970s, there's definitely been at least one crossover between them at some point (even Archie Comics had a crossover with the Punisher, where he chaperoned their Senior Prom). The movie will probably just gloss over things during the intro as "at some point between me wiping humanity's memory of me and now, I ran into this weirdo who fights crime with guns instead of fists!"

Well, I realize that.

But I know with Disney trying to cram every Marvel character ever into the MCU, they've been at least doing feeder series or at least after-credit scenes that put character they're going to feature together in the same place.

I was just wondering if I'd missed an MCU bit where they set that up.

Punisher shows up in the Daredevil series, and Matt is Peter's attorney in No Way Home...

I have to assume Matt does not remember getting his retainer, though it would be a source of much puzzlement if somehow he does.

The biggest plot hole in No Way Home is expecting the audience to believe that high-level neurosurgeon, former sorcerer supreme, and master of time and space Stephen Strange couldn't keep his concentration while a teenager prattled on about his melodrama. We've seen him handle much higher pressure situations with aplomb, the whole scenario strains credulity!

It was an entertaining movie to watch, which I guess is truly all you can ask of a movie. I hated how it ended, though. It violated one of the prime tenets of fiction writing - there are certain ways you simply never end a story, and 'It was all just a dream!' is one of them.

If New Day reverses that to any considerable degree to where the story doesn't end on that 'none of it mattered' note, then I'm all for it and will watch it.

Oof. There are so many better ways than "It was all just a dream!'

Still, how important is the ending? If the experience along the way was interesting and fun enough, you can still create a classic. For example, the hit anime Escaflowne in which everything falls apart at the end because they were told they had only a few episodes left still made a huge impact on the industry and inspired many future artists and directors.

Or the hit film Spirited Away in which Chihiro hops on a train and the story suddenly ends but people still love the picture and it won awards.

Or the hit experience Mass Effect 3 in which the original promised 'thousands' of endings were actually three...uh maybe not that last one.

Somehow needy whiny teen drama being Dr. Strange's kryptonite feels perfectly on point to me. Like the whole universe could be collapsing around him and no biggie, but being forced to listen to that is like an itch you can't scratch and it's driving him crazy. If there was a thought bubble I'm sure you'd see Homer Simpson strangling Bart, like why you little...

I know I'm in the minority here, but I just don't like the MCU Spider-Man. I'm okay with Holland playing the character (he's not great, but not terrible IMHO) but it enrages me just how drastically they changed other characters (MJ, Ned, Uncle Ben (he's just been flat-out absent), Aunt May). My long history with comics, growing up as a kid, really makes it hard for me to "just go with the flow" when they deviate from what happened in the comics. (Yeah, I know... I wish I could get over it, but that's just not easy for me to do).

Thus, normally I'd be totally skipping this movie until it's streaming, and I can watch it for free/on the cheap. But... I love Punisher and (if the rumors are true)
Jean Grey/Marvel Girl will be making her debut in this movie as well
, so I'm prolly going to cave and go see this, just for those 2 characters. (I just have to keep my expectations low because I'm far from convinved that the MCU is out of the slump it's largely fallen into the last several years).

Another Spidey film?
Yeah, but the alternative is Eternals 2 (doesn't anyone else want to know what Starfox is up to? Anyone?), or they could explore the C-list. Here's some thoughts for the pitch-board:

Alpha Flight : First Class, Eh!
ROM : Spaaaaaaace Knight
Rick Jones : Teen Avenger

If you're going to bring in Daredevil and Punisher, why not Kingpin?
Daredevil is not confirmed to be in this movie. There are rumors but nothing's for sure.

And it's always the rights to these characters that cause such issues. Sony owns the rights for almost all the Spidey-related characters, so for Marvel to be able to have them appear in their MCU films, they have to hash things out with Sony. Hell, I'm amazed they've been able to work things out as many times as they have, just to have Spider-Man appear in some MCU movies.

2 big, mega-wealthy corpos acting like spoiled brats fighting in a sandbox... Yeah, that tracks. :p

I didn't get "it was all just a dream" from it at all. Everyone forgot who SpiderHyphenMan was, but his actions still had real effects, especially on all those villains he redeemed. So long as real effects happened, it could all be a LITERAL dream and still matter. Like... you know, Nightmare on Elm Street. Kids actually died even if it was all just a dream. It being a dream isn't the issue if there's still lasting consequences.

OK, is it just me, or....?
I was a few seconds into watching the trailer, and I see Peter flip his phone closed.
That's a >$1500 phone, in pristine condition; Peter wouldn't spend that kind of money on a device because he simply doesn't have that kind of cash flow (as I know the character, that is).

Sony has been product-placing their own products in their movies forever. Usually they don't feature it that heavily in a trailer, but it's always been there.

To be fair, this incarnation of Spider-Man's real superpower is getting under the skin of other superheroes.

Last time I checked, spiderman is like 80~90% Sony.

Sony produces it, flims it, distributes it in theaters. Then disney gets a timed exclusive for it in streaming, but after a while, as per Sony's standard MO, the license it to all commers.

Do with this information whatever you like.
Disney's timed exclusive for Disney+ ends this year so this film will probably be Netflix first.

Wait. Was that not James Earl Jones doing the narration about spiders' life cycles? What's his role in the film?

Or is he only in the trailer?
That was the legendary Keith David! (Goliath from Disney's Gargoyles and hundreds of live action film and TV roles and animation film and TV roles).

Looks good! Doesn't have to be All World All Galaxy All Universe saving -- in fact, better if it's not.
This reminds me even Captain Kirk was fed up with All World, All Galaxy, All Universe saving.

In Star Trek Generations, Kirk is pulled into a pocket universe that could be called heaven. Picard goes in decades later and tries to convince Kirk to return with him to save a world.
---------
Kirk: You say history considers me dead. Who am I to argue with history?

Picard: You're a Starfleet officer. You have a duty!

Kirk: I don't need to be lectured by you. I was out saving the galaxy when your grandfather was in diapers. Besides which, I think the galaxy owes me one.

Ahhhhhh. Now that you mention it, that's 100% Goliath. That's why it sounded so familiar that I thought it must be Jones. Thank you!

So now my question becomes: does David have a role in the film, or is he just in the trailer?
