Not the next R8? Audi reveals mid-engined plug-in hybrid V8 Nuvolari.

The R8 V10 was priced around 275.000.
Now they are looking at a 750.000 price point.

I guess that scarcity is their pricing strategy now. Pretty car though.
The R8 debuted in 2008. It's been nearly 20 years. Almost nothing costs the same as it did nearly 20 years ago.

I was with you right up to the last three words.

Frankly, I thought it looked like shit. Kind of like a rounder Cybertruck.

Tastes differ, though. And I expect neither one of us would be able to afford it even if we wanted it.

But a V8 with TODAY'S gas prices? Considering the all things, I'd say this is going to be an offering for the "Fuck everyone else" crowd, assuming it ever comes out of concept. And considering all things, that may not happen in the first place.

Fuel is such a minuscule part of the ownership cost of a supercar that it's not even in the thought process, the only time anyone remotely cares about MPG in this class of car is when doing a rally.

Whoever buys this does not care about gas prices.

Yes although in the past the R8 was cheaper than the Lamborghini and a little less performant. Now the Audi is both more expensive and more powerful.

Not that i'd buy either of them, but the Revuelto is a far prettier car to my eye.

Why would I buy an Audi with a price greater than a Lamborghini with the same powertrain?

The Nuvolari’s styling is a departure from Audi’s current design language, though it remains consistent with the Concept C, a more compact coupe that will use the same underpinnings as Porsche’s electric Boxster.
That vertical slab front grille is giving me more of an American pickup truck vibe. 😬

I got the Cybertruck vibe from it, as well.

Have you sat in a Lamborghini? You may have... strong feelings... about their interior design features.

I'm not buying cars anywhere fucking near $750k but I can afford a V8 burning premium.

Anyone buying one of these couldn't give less of a shit about the cost of gas. They're well into "how much could a banana cost Michael? $100?" territory.

Soulless Electric just get an Electric SUV, Robo-Taxi or an Electric forklift go to sleep and let the car drive itself….

Just remember, to park it in the driveway 40 feet away from the living space because the insurance companies won’t cover the damage if it catches fire and totals the House, Condo, or Townhouse while charging in the garage.

Counterpoint: Maybe V8's and larger engines should only be installed in impractical, low-volume, and rarely driven toy/hobby cars like this? There isn't much harm if some (shameless tool) peacocks this vehicle around town for several hundred miles a year. A real issue are the mass-produced ICE 'utility' vehicles - large-engined SUVs and trucks, oversized and purposeless as they putter around suburbia and idle in traffic.

Agreed, we can assume total cost of ownership or running costs aren't really a concern if you're the in "$750k impractical garage eye-candy" demographic.

The Nuvolari looks muscular and brooding. But also a bit grumpy. I think I prefer the Rosemeyer which looks kind yet stratospheric. I have a 2003 Audi A4 Avant which looks a little bit muscular (now I've taken the top box and bike rack off, 6 years later than necessary) but doesn't look so grumpy. I have a lot of pareidolia when looking at cars.

It's been many years, but from recent photos ten-year-old me would be really into them.
Presently-old-me would pick the Audi - but only if I couldn't get a new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale for its interior.
Sadly any-age-me can afford none of these.

If my Mazda catches on fire will the insurance company pay for those damages?

Feels like this isn't serious.

The front looks like what happens when a printer has an error and repeats the same line, stretching part of whatever it was rendering at the time.
I came to the comments to see if anyone thought similar. My first impression was "that looks like screen tearing, did the image load properly?".
