No release date or price?

Presentation is still going.

Edit: June 5th then. Nice, will try to pick one up. Skipped the switch because I didn't find it compelling and the hardware was to weak. But now there is enough power in the hardware for me to give it a try. Besides, my kids are big enough and have finally taken an interest in gaming which makes the Switch 2 compelling.

Apropos of nothing other than the "lets-a-go" subhead up there...

Hall effect. Come on Nintendo, say the words. Hall effect.
I’m so close to being a hypocritical piece of shit and buying this, but literally no Hall effect, no sale.

Edit: $450. Whoof, I guess it doesn’t matter if it has Hall effect joysticks or not.

Looks like the new SoC has got really solid dedicated encode and decode, since they're they're presenting continuously capturing and streaming gameplay footage as basically "free" in terms of performance.

One of the presented use-cases was "GameShare", where one person can own a game and multiple people can play it remotely (like Steam's Remote Play Together and various other such services), which is pretty impressive for a handheld.

edit: In retrospect, as jg67379 pointed out, this probably wasn't actually streaming video like I assumed (especially after looking at how juddery the streams in their GameChat example were), but just sharing (partial) copies of the game, like the old DS one-card multiplayer.

I know there's limited ways to present that type of information, but that GameChat interface is strikingly close to Discord's voice chat & streaming UI. Down to the presentation of avatars centered on matched colour backgrounds. Interesting to see how close they've followed that design!
Convergent evolution!

Man the audio-sync issues in the stream are jarring.

EDIT: And then the video completely froze right before Enter the Gungeon. This is wild.
Never would have imagined how bad a/v sync would get. And I've never seen Cyberpunk look so cartoony.

How are they not just playing back a single pre-recorded file?

I think the GameShare is more like the Steam family sharing feature. It's not actually streaming the game from another console

It's explained in this article: https://meincmagazine.com/gaming/2025...m-for-sharing-digital-switch-games-explained/

Cost, preorder, etc??

For once Nintendo’s console is just a straight upgrade to their previous banger. Crazy world.

Update: $449, wow. Higher than I was expecting. Still decent in this world when you remember that the inflation adjusted price of the Nintendo Switch from 2017 is $400. There’s a lot more on offer; I bought two switch’s at launch for my wife and me but probably don’t have to do that now with Gameshare and our remaining one switch.

Would have liked to see $400, but I definitely don’t think $450 will make it a bad deal.

Double edit: I just remembered we live in a tarriff world now. Considering that plus inflation, $450 isn’t that surprising.

No pricing announced... and given all the features and boosted specs (120fps, streaming of camera/gameplay, etc.) I'm thinking 350 or 400. Or maybe they want to see wtf the deal is with tariffs come June 5.

ETA: pricing announced right after posting this. Thanks Nintendo for making me look foolish. $449/499 is higher than I thought but given the console’s power I’m not surprised.

Did I miss how Switch 2 edition of games are going to work? I assume since it's Nintento that I'm going to have to fully re-buy the game, but hoping there would be an upgrade discount of some sort.
I think it is similar to buying an expansion pack. But the expansion pack is upgraded textures and switch 2 features.

There is an upgrade "add-on" if you already own the games on Switch 1. No price was mentioned. I'm assuming the price will be "more than I want it to be but less than a full game." I'd assume $20.

Nintendo brought their A game to that presentation. Lack of pricing is a bit disappointing, but perhaps understandable given current events.

EDIT: Pricing is up. $449 for the base console, $499 for the Mario Kart bundle. $50 more than I expected, but I'll blame the aforementioned current events.

Even though it didn't do very well commercially, I'd argue the Wii U was exactly this.
The Wii U was a fundamentally different device when compared to the Wii. Respectfully, you might be one of the few people to ever say this.

It wasn't a commercial success because the messaging around it was very confusing to the casual audience.
