Microsoft purchases Bethesda Softworks in industry-changing acquisition

Interesting that acquisition was somehow a better value for MS than just moneyhatting exclusivity or timed exclusivity on a game-by-game or property-by-property basis.

Seems like the Xbox division is able to think more than 2 years out now, and as costly as this acquisition is, one or two Elderscrolls and Fallout releases will probably pay off a lot of it.

I can also see some console only people having to buy an Xbox, because frankly, Fallout or Skyrim offer enough great content that you can sell consoles (or PCs) for them.

If it means the next Elder Scrolls game won't have an awful half-asssed console-port UI in Windows, I'm all for it.
This just means they can whole-ass the console port.

Doom: opens gates to hell

Console: bluescreen

Me: screams in horror

Console Microsoft is so different to (the old) Phone Microsoft.

And it's funny how Console Microsoft seems to be such a distant sibling to Corporate O365 Microsoft. I wonder if these things are related?

Also, *if* this is "industry changing" shouldn't it really be looked at by Governments and Regulators?

Xbox is not even close to a monopoly (they even aren't the biggest player). And on Windows the market leader is Steam, not Microsoft.

It is truly odd to read an article of "Massive Software Giant Acquires Long Beloved Gaming Studio" and have the reaction be positive. I happen to think it is positive as well as Microsoft has done a pretty good job and Bethesda...not so much lately.

Yeah, perhaps the only other one that would be viewed positively would be if Microsoft decided to purchase EA and clean-house its management...

I'm much more concerned about mods than the UI they ship, since the players always make the best UIs anyway...

Not sure how much I wanna play TES VI without mods... 🤔
