Well I went back last night and had no problem killing the the men after Li'Ara. I guess the Gods were with me tonight. -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif --

Yeah I have more than ten saves already. What can I say- I'm a frequent saver. I make it through a rough area and immediately save- just a habit a have when playing games.

So how does Bioshock allow you so many saves then? I understand it is a completely different game, but come on- it seems like it should have been doable.

I tend to keep two-three "current" quick-saves which I cycle through (so I don't get myself stuck, which I really hate) and then keep the last of those and start working the next 3 least recently saved slots.

So...I'm in my second run through and I'm finding that there are things that I wanted to do differently to see how they turned out, and I just couldn't bring myself to do them.

1. Romance sub-plot with Ashley instead of Liara - For a couple reasons. First, I just don't like Ashley. Her character is annoying and bigoted. They gave her backstory to explain it, but I still just don't like her. Secondly...I don't have to use the FUCKING elevator on the Normandy to talk to Liara.

2. Kill the captive alien on Noveria. I was totally going to, but I couldn't do it. So instead, I let her live, and then instead of being nice to the Council about it, I was just rude to them. -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif --

Half the time I just ignore the council anyway. "Want me to patch you throu-" NO I DO NOT, JOKER. I mean it's basically designed so no matter what you do the Turian will get angry and the Salarian or the Asari will praise you. I justify this by thinking if it's really important they can call me over the space hologramphone or whatever, and if Bioware didn't program that in there it's not my fault. :v

However if you go Renegade at the end of Noveria (you know what I mean) the dialogue response to the Turian is absolutely awesome. So that one I always connect through to the Council.

quote:

Originally posted by Mojo-jojo:
I was totally going to, but I couldn't do it.

Play on hardcore or insanity and you will find justifying that becomes extremely easy out of raw frustration at those damn acid spitballs.

I didn't have much trouble with the acid.

Hmmm...that makes me think...can you get the Hardcore/Insanity achievements on a New Game+ or does it have to be a completely new character?

So I finished a new+ play through to get the Asari and Krogan ally achievements, which I did. I still only got to level 59 though, so I'm a little annoyed. It's unlikely I'll play again to try to get that and the Insanity play through achievement. Those two plus Shotgun Mastery are the only ones I didn't get, but screw 'em.

I have not successfully gotten the Ashley romance to go though, on two attempts. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, both times I just ended up with Liara coming to my room alone. Hell with her though.

I know not every side quest has to relate to the main storyline, nor would I expect that. But I do expect the side quests to be interesting. I appreciate that Bioware was trying to expand the universe and make it "feel bigger", but the planets are indeed cookie cutter designs with minimal variation. I did two of them and now I am so disgusted I am not sure if I will complete the rest of them. Which is a shame because I really would like to. Plus, the controls on the Mako are horrible.

I don't care at all that the physical locations are 'cookie cutter'. Then again, I'm used to jRPGs where 99% of battles take place essentially in the exact same place (the battle takes place in a special battle-only map) and there's little or no story reason for them to occur. You do them to level grind so you're actually good enough to complete the main quest battles.

ME, on the other hand, doesn't require any level grinding (the main quest battles scale to you), but if you want to increase in level/money/items and explore you're given lots of really cool story reasons to do so in the form of kick-ass UNC missions. Having your typical 'random' type battles book-ended by Lance Hendrikson talking to you is something you just don't get anywhere else -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif -- -- View image here: https://cdn.arstechnica.net/forum/smilies/biggrin.gif --
