I thought there were some legitimate gripes in the GameSpot review... but I don't care. I'll still be picking the game up tomorrow. Looks simply amazing and I loves me a good story.

The sand worm (thresher maw) battles sounded really bad in particular - but maybe it's something that was fixed between the review copy and the gold master. Here's hoping.

Oh yes, Uncharted, barring perhaps Portal, is the best game I've played this year. Mass Effect is the only thing left to challenge it, in my opinion... and given my love affair with Bioware RPGs, there's a good chance they'll take the top spot for me. I'm definitely a Bioware fanboy and Mass Effect is the real reason I bought a 360 during October last year (Gears of War and Dead Rising gave me the excuse but Mass Effect has always been the reason).

I actually agreed with GameSpot about Assassin's Creed - I loved that game. But they're also host to the worst review of the year in my opinion - their review for Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. I think my favorite review site (despite how often I disagree with them) is actually Eurogamer. They're very consistent, unlike so many other sites. And even when I disagree with their scores, I can still find a lot of useful information in the actual body of their reviews to help me judge whether or not I'd actually like a game.

Originally, I was going to buy a 360 for this one.

The console comes with a 1-year all-inclusive warranty and a 3-year RRoD warranty. Plus you can buy an extended warranty direct from MS or from the store you got it from. If that is not enough to assuage your paranoia, then you'd better stop buying consumer electronics entirely.
Sure, sure. It's just that every single 360 I've had the pleasure of dealing with has gone belly up within that time period or thereabouts. Not just one or two, all of them. Admittedly, this is only a sample size of about six, but that's still pretty insane. Still, I'd rather not derail this thread about this issue.

The real reason I'm not buying one is because I just can't afford it. The paranoia, as always, is more or less irrational.

Just a head's up, the game is selling as part of Dell Canada's days of gaming deal (as I'd hoped), for 44.99CAD.

For those of you who were wanting it but didn't jump on preorders.

At 15$ off, it was an easy decision for me, I should have it by the weekend, though I shouldn't play till December 17th, what with finishing university properly and all ... I might just give it a look see !

Mass Effect is released here in the UK on Friday.

Do any Brits know what it will be retailing at in the stores? (Game, Gamestation, HMV, Supermarkets)

I am just debating whether to pick it up on my way back from university, or get it from ChoicesUK for £37.50 delivered.

Anyway, this will be the first game I have picked up for the Xbox since March - nothing else has taken my fancy in the meantime. I hope it is worth the wait, even with the possible flaws.

If the story is good, I can probably overlook certain gameplay deficiencies (FFVII random battles didn't quite ruin that title for me).
Anyway I have been waiting for the damned thing to come out for so long I have to play it -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif --

I picked it up at lunch but I won't be able to play it for at least a couple more hours. For those that are already in, what are your thoughts on the classes?

My general play style tends to favor the soldier description, but the adept is intriguing if only for my own fantasies of fantastical mental powers. I'm assuming you will come across a specialized soldier, tech and adept so that you're never really without a given power. Is that so and how long roughly (without spoilers)?

I guess I'm favoring a paragon soldier the first play through and an adept renegade the second, at this point.
