Bodycam footage undermined sheriff's "true threat" justification for the arrest.

“A free country does not dispatch police in the dead of night to pull people from their homes because a sheriff objects to their social media posts,” Steinbaugh said.
And insurection and beating the snot out of police officers seems just fine.Welcome to trumps authoritarian America. Where laws only apply to the rest and not to him or his goons. If your are Republican you can get away with almost anything. Especially white collar crimes like fraud, trying to overturn an election, money laundering, etc.
Republicans are above the law in this regime.
You don't get back to having freedom by shitting your pants in the dark.Right. But the USA is no longer a "free country" - the sooner you all realise that, the better.
I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect the stories of ICE abuses and this one will seem like a walk in the park in the coming months and (!) years of this (mal)Administration.
The double standard is so glaring...
Freedom is at serious risk right now, but the cause is not lost yet.Right. But the USA is no longer a "free country" - the sooner you all realise that, the better.

Beating police officers is only fine if you’re a feces-smearing Trumpy. If you’re a normal and you throw a sandwich at a ICE goon you had better beware. And insurection and beating the snot out of police officers seems just fine.
Maybe not lost, but - from outside - it's looking mighty bleak, indeed. The fact that 40+% (as of a week or so ago) approve of Trump does not bode well.Freedom is at serious risk right now, but the cause is not lost yet.
You know this is just satire because IRL, they'd just shoot first...I remember when this was "just a joke." I hope the sheriff's department is sued into oblivion.

Agreed, sadly it's the taxpayers who will likely foot the bill for police idiocy.Lawsuit? He should be. He needs to own that town that sheriff is from.
I think the threats here are pretty self-evident for someone paying attention.Maybe not lost, but - from outside - it's looking mighty bleak, indeed. The fact that 40+% (as of a week or so ago) approve of Trump does not bode well.
Instead, he’ll be given a high ranking position in the current DoJ, because he’s exactly the kind of go-getter the Trump Administration is looking for.Weems should turn himself in for threatening all of us.
Who authorized the $2M bail?
The cause is never lost; most of human history has been under autocratic regimes.Freedom is at serious risk right now, but the cause is not lost yet.
I don't know, but based on everything in seeing online, not sure what it would take for them to finally realize democracy has already been killed there. I'm doubtful many would even after Trump just declares himself winner and goes 3rd term. Thousands have already vanished from Alligator Alcatraz after all.Right. But the USA is no longer a "free country" - the sooner you all realise that, the better.

Samizdat is a heck of a lot easier to pull off today with satellite dishes and USB keys and TOR and encryption etc etc.Coming from a formerly Warsaw Pact communist country and a dissident family there, I'd have a few suggestions:
Welcome to fascism! Please do kindly take off your shoes before the mandatory showers...
- Get a typewriter, anonymously
- Get loads of carbon copy paper, anonymously
- Samizdat is a thing, start with 1984 (soon to be banned)
- Copy the banned books and distribute them among the good people
- ...
- Get facial scanned by the police AI on the way to the grocery store and apprehended for being the wrong colour of the day
- ???
- If you do actually survive all of that, write a samizdat about it and go back to 1.

Where is there insurrection? If your taking about my town (Portland) note that our police force just testified in court today that ICE agents have been firing teargas at pepper balls at the police.
10:1 because the damage in trust to our institutions is immense. 100:1 would probably be more commensurate with the damage they do.Law enforcement and prosecutors who maliciously and in bad faith charge, arrest, prosecute, withhold evidence, etc. and/or conspire to deprive innocent people of their rights should at minimum lose their licenses and be jailed 1:1 equivalent for time served by the victim. No fines, no slaps on the wrist, no probation.
Probably 2:1, as they should know better.
They are referring to January 6th 2021.Wut?

There was that time and also this: https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/20...on-between-local-police-federal-officers.html where Portland Police were hit with pepper balls and told to 'help or get out of the way.'Needs a link: https://newrepublic.com/post/202443/portland-police-chief-donald-trump-protest-tear-gas-accident
"That day, federal officers tried to use a launcher to fire tear gas at protesters occupying the ICE headquarters’ driveway. But they missed, and instead sent a can flying onto the roof of the building, where more federal officers were stationed. Those officers mistook the friendly fire for an attack by the protesters, and retaliated by firing tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd, ultimately hurting local law enforcement in the process, according to Schoening."
