Personally I also don't really like ultimative threats.

Firstly you pretty much have no out if anyone calls your bluff or is just fed up with your bullshit
Secondly it always comes off as a bit childish
Lastly I also don't think it's a great way to effect constructive change

In case of Max it's also a threat he has repeated so often that it has lost its effectiveness or even worse that people are fed up enough with it that they no longer want to listen to the actual criticism and instead react with "well fuck off then"

Except, you know, the FIA did accept it. The cars have already been changed and the proposal for next year is on the table. Which means they're basically in agreement with his points and issues about F1.

He wasnt talking nonsense or obviously wrong given the developments to date.

Has he? I feel like every time I see that in a headline, it’s someone posing the question after Max has complained about something at Red Bull or just in F1 in general. Then Max has to refute it at the next press conference.

Yes and no.

The issue at hand is unfortunately a bit more complicated.

In general everyone agrees on the change towards a 60:40 split. Right now the debate has mostly shifted towards the details. The issue is that - in order to increase the maximum fuel flow limit - you'd also need to increase the maximum fuel allowance and hence the fuel tank size.

This has led a number of teams - among them Audi, Honda and Cadillac - to oppose those changes for 2027 for several reasons and to push the changes to 2028. This has mostly to do with how much of the development budget is already allocated for other systems, how the ADUO rules for engine development work, the additional effort needed to redesign the chassis and monocoque and how this might make them even more uncompetitive compared to teams which have already pretty much "nailed" the engine and power train side of the new regs.

Their argument is basically that the newcomers would need to handle all of the changes on top of the ongoing engine and aero developments and would fall even more behind Mercedes or Ferrari if the changes in regs would come in 2027. So they favor 2028 as a start date.

So the alternative proposal by the FIA is to postpone the changes to the cars to 2028 but keep the increased fuel flow limit for 2027. This would mean though that races would be shorter in 2027 by several laps because you have higher fuel flow and the same amount of fuel.

Max hint was in reaction to the idea to postpone the changes to 2028.

Even though the people in charge agree with him in principle it might still lead to tzhe changes being pushed to 2028 or to further maybe also unpopular changes for 2027 to bridge the gap.

Things have definitely gotten better with the changes they have made so far. What's really important, and something Tijger mentioned earlier, is the safety part. I haven't noticed the rear wheel locking like we were seeing the first few races, and the changes also seem to have eliminated some of the risk from the faster car coming up on a car that's harvesting. And to Diabolical's point, I'd love to watch Max do a walk on that track, talk about how to, well how he drives each straight and corner.

I swear F1TV used to do track walks as part of weekend warmup or have like a featurette during qualifying showing stuff like that a few years ago. Maybe not every corner, but getting more trackside and on-track views of the track and elevations and such in a 3-4 minute video. Maybe it was during F1A? Was nice because the camera was static on the track so you could really take it in, versus trying to see everything from a paused frame during a replay lap or something.

Oh man, in somewhat related bounds?
The broadcast/camera direction for the Canadian GP was freaking atrocious.

They have gotten worse and worse over the last season and a half.

To me it was especially glaring because I went from the Nürburgring 24 hour broadcast to Canada. N24 was significantly better. The N24 broadcast is run by the Nürburgring itself and they a lot of the race and assorted tasks are run by volunteers and the broadcast team has orders of magnitude less budget and yet the whole broadcast experience was leaps and bounds better.

They had over a dozen live streams from cars, 120 people on the broadcast team, they had a helicopter and drone shots, the whole 25.3 km track was fitted with cameras including camera cranes and they managed to keep track of 165 cars and over 500 drivers. Two live streams (English and German) with different commentator teams.

F1 has a billion dollar budget and doesn't even come close to this atm.

When has it not been in the past 3 years? Ok, slightly hyperbolic maybe but I cannot remember a race in the past 3 seasons where I didnt go at least once "Show us whats happening!" I feel its also getting progressively worse.

"If you don't do what I want I'll quit" is pretty much a threat you only utter if you think you are important enough that this threat might sway people.
It's not a threat, it's just a stated intention. I don't think Max remotely thinks he's bigger than the sport or that the sport owes him anything. He's just saying that if F1 continues on its current course, he'll quit because he doens't like it. It's not like he doesn't have opportunities elsewhere and wanting to live your best life is as legitimate for Max as it is for anyone else.

Now, I'm pretty sure that the FIA and FOM etc view it as a problem (if not a threat) because it's a very bad look for the sport if its major star walks rather than carrying on winning and raking in vast amounts of money. F1 is marketed as the pinnacle of motorsport and that is more than somewhat given the lie by its no1 driver leaving to race GT cars in the forests. There are people and businesses heavily invested in F1 and that turn of status is NOT what they want.

I don't think Max is playing politics, it's never really been his style. F1 arguably needs him more than he needs it.

I honestly feel that has been an issue, no, a major fucking annoyance, for a very long time, never mind the last 3 years. Whoever's in charge of in-race graphics and race info needs to be hung, drawn and quartered.

Sometimes I'm really dense lol, please explain me what's so funny about Gucci?
Nah... it's in poor taste to explain jokes. If you're truly unaware of the cultural zeitgeist attached to Gucci in the US then this isn't the thread to delve into it. FIA certainly doesn't care. Let's just say the brand isn't... well associated with high-risk, high-testosterone sports in the US, particularly auto racing.

Once the livery gets revealed then the image memes alone (especially from the NASCAR crowd) will have some gems.

A pointless, status fashion brand is sadly a big step up.
I was really hoping for an OnlyFans sponsorship. They've got the money.
