Dealmaster: All the best Memorial Day sales on TVs, laptops, and more tech

The 512gb micro as from Samsung looks like a great deal but I’ve sworn off purchasing digital storage online after the 3rd fake I got.

Looks like the seller is hit or miss from the reviews of legit and fake. Just know how to spot the differences and be ready to send back if you go for one.

Remember, storage media is a self diminishing pricing model so in time these will be $20 in a bargain bin at a brick and mortar store too. I remember when full size 8gb camera Sd cards were $60 on Black Friday. The prices will come down..in time. :)

...threw me off for a sec. The $249 sale price is for 32GB

I thought there was a great deal going on. Nope.. same price it has been for a few months.

Wowzorz, I've been in the market for a 4k OLED for some time. That Google Express was a good deal.

Something almost really caught me off guard, though. The Product page said the AVRDTH code gets $200 off, but it wasn't actually applied. On checkout, I had to expand a special box, and then click apply on the coupon code. I almost missed out on $200 off!

It's sold by Amazon itself... I'm pretty sure that if it's sold by Amazon, they'd stand behind that it's not a fake.

The one MicroSD type you can always count on not being fake is the green Samsung's from Amazon, since they are an Amazon-exclusive version of their regular cards - just... greener.

I think they are called "Evo Select", instead of "Evo Plus", or something like that, anyway, but they are definitely green (with a little grey), and definitely fast (I forget exactly how SD cards above Class-10 are classified, but it's either a U1 Level 3, or U3 - the kind with the U with a 3 in it on the card anyway; I feel like it should be the latter, but also vaguely remember reading an article about people mistakenly calling them that, and that they are all just different grades of U1... Enough to melee my head spin).

Reading over what I just wrote, I realize that it is about as vague as you can get, and if I wasn't sick and bedridden, I'd go dig one up now (I bought like 20-something of them, ranging from 32GB to 256GB, during last Black Friday), but am sadly somewhat immobile.

But they are definitely easy to find on Amazon, as they are generally the best-selling, and one of the top-rated, cards on there - since you mentioned holding off, I'd wait for Prime Day in July, as they should have better prices then than even Black Friday (It took all my will power not to grab one of the super-cheap 4K TVs, but I'm hoping the new HiSense H9F's coming out in a few weeks will be discounted for Prime Day).

If it's available from other vendors and fufilled by amazon, you can get fakes in, even if Amazon also sells it themselves. It's happened to me twice now with electronics and once with a rifle scope.

Amazon has been known to sell counterfeit memory cards. (I mean the ones "sold by Amazon", not just on amazon.com) I think they sometimes mix inventory for things they sell and 3rd-party items fulfilled by Amazon, which is apparently how counterfeits sneak in. For memory cards I'd recommend buying from an authorized reseller, and never Amazon.

That Samsung EVO Select 512 GB MicroSD is the same $100 price at samsung.com, so you might as well buy it directly. It's not an Amazon exclusive, and even if it were, that probably wouldn't stop some 3rd-party seller from selling it or from selling counterfeits.

A better way is to get the item from a store like Best Buy that will price match Amazon. They'll honor the sale price (or they'll likely be running the same sale themselves), and you get a legit item.

TomWestrick: True. Although, it's part of why I've generally cut down using Amazon for physical goods. I still buy kindle books, but for physical high dollar goods I'm a lot more likely to buy at a physical location or directly from the manufacturers' website now. They're less likely to price match but I'll get what I actually bought!

You're right that Evo Select and Evo Plus are the same.

If you look up their specs, they should be exactly the same too.

I can't confirm whether Amazon won't sell Evo Select fakes, but the logic makes sense. If it's an Amazon-only product, then Amazon only gets it from Samsung?
