The thing I find most fascinating about Right Wing Authoritarianism is that I have a pretty good understanding of how and why you actually believe these things, and yet still cannot fathom actually believing them.

I also know this is futile but for the sake of the attempt… try reading a modern book about racism. There are many good ones but I’d recommend How to be an Anti-Racist by Ibram X Kendi. You may be shocked to learn that no, nobody seriously thinks racism is just a thing white people do. He explicitly talks about his own racism in the book, despite what Fox News told your Facebook friends to tell you. Because that’s the whole goddamned point.

Some facts:

They make one of the best, if not the best fast food chicken sandwich.

Their customer service is 1000% better than any other fast food restaurant.

They could make millions of dollars just by opening on Sundays, but they refuse to ever do that. For any price.

The Hallmark Channel is consistently one of the top revenue makers in the industry.

There is a lot of echo-chamber denial in this forum.

Now the hard truth: the film/tv industry is about getting advertising in front of people who spend money. The demographic that this proposal is targeting is bigger and spends a lot more money than the demographic that was watching “The Acolyte.”

It's not 2010 anymore. So many fast food chicken sandwiches are better. Chic fil just serves generic over-processed chicken with minimal spices. It's like Wendy's tier food the praise is not at all justified.

I have, without even trying actually, never gone to a Chick-Fil-A in my life. That they had to stop donating to anti-gay think tanks in order to go global was a plus, certainly, and that put them out of my mind, but I still never once actually thought "This is the place I want to go to" in my entire life. Not even out of hatred, it just never occurred as a thought. If I think "chicken" I'm thinking KFC or Church's or preferably one of the far superior local chicken shacks around here.

That said, I know a LOT of people in the area absolutely love them, for what I think must be ideological reasons.

Fact is, religion aside, there won't be a lot of objection to family oriented programming. I don't think there will be religious content but perhaps. So if it that's it, it will just be brainless and non-controversial. The only reason that someone would object would be "I won't watch that because it doesn't include "X"" in other words the content will be objectionable for what it doesn't include, not because of what it does include.

As a parent of young kids that consumes a lot of kids media with a critical eye, your “fact is” is simply wrong. There is objectionable material out there. Not only that, there exist LOTS of good kids programming, so the only reason to create even more is because you think you can make a buck, or because you find all the current programming objectionable, and are going to do something different. One of those scenarios seems far more plausible than the other, given history.

Also, why distinguish between what is included vs excluded as if one is better than the other? If a show purposefully excludes minorities, people of color, women with careers, or fathers being nurturing, is that somehow better?

Correct. Look at the shows Gibson is already producing. One of them "Studio C" is literally SNL but from Brigham Young University (an ultra Christian University). The troupe name is "Divine Comedy". It airs on the already established "family" cable network BYUtv. Which is owned and operated by Brigham Young University.

It will be a lot of ignoring people and problems they don't like. While conveniently stopping to "pray" it out before every ad break. At least at first. If it actually catches on they'll become more overt in the things they hate.

I used to watch some byutv before my ward and stake leaders started spewing maga propaganda on social media. I have to say their programming was reasonably well-done with the production/tech but the content was somehow even more boring than a General Conference (where you hear the top brass give a bunch of sermons with some music in between. For hours on end.).

I don't attend meetings anymore, and just like I was promised I let go of everything else pretty quickly.
