Anti-vaccine advocate RFK Jr. axes COVID shot guidance for pregnant people, kids

Notice how you have to ignore every single shred of context to pretend these things are equivalent.

That is something I’ve noticed with conservatives: they’re never capable of discussing situations with any kind of context. Biden issued executive orders, therefore all of trumps orders are perfectly fine. Don’t think about what the orders are about.
Context, nuance, logical consistency and valid reasoning, are all anathema to the current, so-called "conservative" (for lack of a better word) mindset.

I agree with this, and I think you were trying to get at it with your editorial link earlier.

The problem is you have to be careful that not being so rigid and being more inclusive doesn't lead you to trying to court people who are themselves trying to exclude others. There's nothing wrong with being pro woman, it's a good thing, but if you have to be anti-trans to get there it's not actually a positive movement.

One of my favorite pieces of advice has long* been "One should strive to keep an open mind -- but not so open that one's brains fall out."

* I think I first heard it from Carl Sagan?

If/when we have another Democratic (or just not as far right) president, imagine how many EOs they will have to sign just to cancel all of Trump's!

"All the King's horses, and all the King's men, can't put Humpty Dumpty together again."

I believe this is a major consideration in MAGA / Project 2025's over-arching strategy.
Breaking things is a lot easier than repairing them, burning things down is a lot simpler than rebuilding.

(Applies to simple things, and even more to complex ones: pots or clocks, orchards or forests, cabins or metropolises... The way these guys are shot-gunning across the spectrum, it can't be by accident.)

Helen Lewis is also a well known TERF.
I take Judith Miller's lead on this one. Don't call them TERFs. They don't deserve the F. If they ever did talk about feminism in a meaningful way, nowadays the only time they're talking about it is to take shots at trans existence. They're anti-trans bigots, the end.

Are you suggesting The Atlantic is compromised?
Hey, that's twice this week I've had to break this out!

This is your periodic reminder that The Atlantic has been on the wrong side of every conflict since the US Civil War. This doesn't mean they're always wrong -- relentless both-sidesing viewpoint diversity and post facto revisionism takes care of some of that. Just today, we've got an article on "conservative DEI", a bit of smug sophistry that equates rectifying systems to be more fair and better suited at selecting candidates to an attempt to assuage the wrath of Dear Leader by including the right kinds of ideologues. (Emphasis on right.) Never mind that the decline in conservative teaching faculty corresponds neatly with conservatism outright rejecting science, fact, and good-faith argumentation; or that there's still plenty of conservative faculty if you're looking in the right departments and places.

I’ve long thought the Democratic Party needs to stop chasing people away with being so exclusive with the “right” way to think and speak.
Are you a person, wholly deserving of rights and respect as such? Is everyone else? If you answered yes to both of those, that's the correct and only acceptable way to think and speak. If not... well, you need to take a real hard look at your ethics and morals.

SO, to the point: is a trans man a man?

Do you have a link handy, I can’t find this one but would love to read it. I’ve long thought the Democratic Party needs to stop chasing people away with being so exclusive with the “right” way to think and speak. Seeing that botched last election and now having Trump back in office was the last straw, we cannot afford to blow it again.
We're talking about the very same Democratic party that just paraded around Republicans as surrogates and completely threw queer people under the bus as an electoral strategy, right?

"He falsely claimed that there was a "lack of any clinical data" to support the use of booster shots."
"Falsely claimed", can we just say "he lied"
I'm really tired of being "nice" when describing these delusional motherfucker's statements.

He fucking lied. He's a delusional, brain-worm-eaten moron who's literally the last person on the fucking planet who can speak authoritatively about anything health-care related.

We need a FUCKING LIAR!!! stamp in nice military font over the faces of these assholes for every picture with a story about them spouting bullshit as if they know what the fuck they're doing.

That'd mesh nicely with the "FUCKING TRAITOR!!!" stamp that needs to be added to that list.

This isn't about grift. In fact Trump's decisions are hammering Big Pharma by cutting some of their best selling products like vaccines.

This is a psyops project. They're controlling the MAGA crowd by feeding the MAGA's distrust of anything science (e.g. anything more complicated than a 10 year old can understand). They get big wins by making statements and ending programs that defy MAGA's definition of common sense (anything that disproves their simple logic which ignores the bigger picture must be false).
This is bigger than a psyops project. My gut feeling is this is a big eugenics project to reduce the world population, starting with all the ”undesirables” and getting them to believe the opposite is occurring to them. Perhaps there’s psyops in play but I feel Ike it’s a big ole “use them till they are of no use to us” scenario across the board. I truly hope I’m wrong.

On a side note, which vaccine is next up to be doomed? My money is on HPV. Plays well to the crowd on a number of fronts…

In the US, the AMA has nothing to do with medical licensing. In fact, the AMA only represents about 15% of American doctors. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3153537/
Valid points both but not really relevant to the issue. Sen. Cassidy should lose his license, on ethical grounds if no others, and the appropriate licensing bodies should take notice. And the AMA and other physician organizations should remind them.

Fact is the vaccine recommendation for kids was always borderline and this brings the US in line with many European countries.
And almost a quarter of EU residents live in a country that does. So we're just joining all the European countries that are taking a more conservative path in protecting children and pregnant people.

For the small amount of money it costs us, why shouldn't we the richest country in the world take the more conservative route to protect our children's long term health? Right now we don't know what long term effects getting COVID might have when the children are older.

In part, it will likely pay for itself in less lost work and school days.

People playing right into big pharma's narrative, and overlooking who is actually less susceptible, the role of natural immunity, and the current evolved state--infinitely weakened state--of COVID. :(

Immunity from a vaccine is more effective than natural immunity. Also you're free to take it, or not. HHS and everything under it has a credibility problem at the moment thanks to being corrupted by a deranged imbecile.

Even if immunity from a vaccine was less effective, it would still be preferable to natural immunity. This is primarily because the vaccine presents little risk and the disease involves significant risks at all age groups.

Unfortunately not, as calling someone a "lair" implies intent on their part, which is an accusation on their personal character that risks defamation litigation from the offended party, and such "intent" is difficult to prove legally.

On the other hand, saying they "falsely claimed," is just stating what factually occurred, without any (direct) reference to the person's intent or character.

I recall that children generally suffered more mild symptoms and lower fatality rates with covid. I wonder how that fares after they get exposed to measles and no longer have an effective immune system
Well, you won't have to wonder a whole lot longer... You have just volunteered for a nice large scale natural experiment, and the sane part of the world is watching with ... "Interest". We'll have to do without stats, of course.

By now it should be understood that what ever comes out of the mouth's of these bottom feeders reflects the exact opposite,

What he really meant is that Trump wants to make America that much sicker....or poorer....or fearful.
The constant Dear Leader name-dropping and dumbing down of the messaging and language are soooo infuriating. Soooo transparantly authoritarian, soooo humiliating for a people (of utter simpletons, apparantly) like the US.

Also, I recall differently... That younger children (infants and toddlers) were at higher risk of severe disease with COVID. Older children had lower risk. I remember because I had an infant and 3 year old at the time.
Many unvaccinated kids died. Sure, statistically speaking next to none. But when you realize ALL it took to avoid that was a simple shot like billions of other people got anyway, with NO downsides... It starts to look mightily stupid. Ask the parents if you doubt that.
