SpaceX acquires xAI, plans 1 million satellite constellation to power it

Actually, this is the sequel. Part 1 was last year, when xAI (which Elon Musk owns) acquired X (formerly know as Twitter, also owned by Elon Musk). And I am not sure if money laundering is the correct term. I think it is more like manipulation of the valuation of privately held companies through...

2025 sees Tesla’s annual revenue fall for the first time

My opinion of this is that it is now personal for Elon. Years ago he got into a huge social media argument with Bill Gates about if the Tesla semi was practical, from both a technical perspective and from an economical perspective. So even though Elon has lost interest in other Tesla...

2025 sees Tesla’s annual revenue fall for the first time

Fred Lambert. Founder and chief editor of the website Electrek. But you have it backwards. These days he is about the furthest thing from a Tesla stan you will find. He is vehemently anti-Elon these days. If you want to read intelligent, informed Musk bashing, he is the guy you want to read. He...

In a surprise announcement, Tory Bruno is out as CEO of United Launch Alliance

Pretty sure he was pushed. Although the failure of the Vulcan program to scale launch cadence this year certainly left him vulnerable to corporate backstabbing. I suspect if ULA had managed somewhere between 6 to 10 successful Vulcan launches in 2025, that his job would have been a lot more secure.

In a stunning comeback, Jared Isaacman is renominated to lead NASA

Isaacman has behaved in a classy, professional manner throughout this entire process. When his nomination was pulled, he did not go on a social media tirade. Instead, he gave a fairly standard statement and did a few interviews in which he was thoughtful and moderate in his comments. I am glad...

Tesla profits fall 37% in Q3 despite healthy sales

I don't think any Tesla made yet is capable of FSD. Maybe they achieve it with the HW5 car after further iterations. But I think sometime down the road Tesla is going to have to make the same admission about HW4 that they have already made about HW3.

Elon Musk just declared war on NASA’s acting administrator, apparently

Something not mentioned is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into Tesla's Full Self Driving a few weeks ago. NHTSA is also a part of the Dept of Transportation, so it is under Duffy as well. So: what you've really got is a cabinet level member of the...

    Tesla’s new cut-price EVs: A $39,990 Model Y and $36,990 Model 3

I suspect Dan Ives and several other pro Tesla stock analysts hate this. For months they have been saying "Tesla has new, more affordable models due out later in the year" and using it to pump the stock. The information has been available for quite some time that Model 2 had been canceled and...

    Tesla’s new cut-price EVs: A $39,990 Model Y and $36,990 Model 3

But they have known for months that the tax credit was going away. Not adjusting their pricing to compensate for this is another fail on Tesla's part.

Senators to appropriators: Leave space shuttle Discovery in Smithsonian

I knew the shuttle would be pretty large because I had seen many pictures of it riding the 747. So I had a good idea of scale there. But when I visited, I was shocked by how large the SR-71 Blackbird is.

Rocket Report: Keeping up with Kuiper; New Glenn’s second flight slips

Back in late 2023 when Dave Limp replaced Bob Smith as CEO of Blue Origin, it seemed for awhile like they were turning things around. After years of inertia and inactivity, Blue Origin seemed to come to life and make actual progress. For most of 2024, it seemed like they were focusing more on...

After a very slow start, Europe’s reusable rocket program shows signs of life

At the time he founded SpaceX, Musk was not one of the world's richest individuals. He wasn't even a billionaire yet. On the other hand, Bezos already was one of the world's richest individuals when he founded Blue Origin. He had vastly more capital to invest in Blue Origin than Musk had to...

Sam Altman calls AI a “bubble” while seeking $500B valuation for OpenAI

    A. Altman does not have anywhere close to a trillion dollars to spend on data centers. And has no likely way to raise that much. B. Even if the money could be raised, Nvidia does not have the capacity to make a trillion dollars worth of chips in a timely fashion. And neither does anybody else...

OpenAI, cofounder Sam Altman to take on Neuralink with new startup

They are both terrible human beings who are mainly good at conning investors out of money. Honestly, this feud between them makes me wish that dueling was still legal. I think if they met with pistols at dawn, humanity would benefit. No matter the outcome.

Why Amazon is letting its rival launch its satellites

Their first Kuiper launch with an Atlas was in May and the 2nd in June. So a 2 month turnaround there. Then they switched the building to Vulcan. We are already closing in on 2 months since the last Atlas launch and I have not yet heard a reliable launch date for the next Vulcan. If they don't...

Trump wanted a US-made iPhone. Apple gave him a gold statue.

This is a big part of what got us to this point. Trump is just being a lot more blatant and obvious about it. In years past, large companies and wealthy individuals made large donations to PACs, super PACs, and the "charitable" foundations owned by politicians. It was still pay-offs and bribery...

Tesla awards Elon Musk $29 billion after much larger pay plan blocked in court

He was able to get away with this for so long because no other company was delivering on it either. And Tesla was viewed as the most advanced of the companies attempting it (mainly due to Elon's hype). But this is no longer the case. Waymo has begun to scale up their operations in the US and is...

Tesla awards Elon Musk $29 billion after much larger pay plan blocked in court

I'm not sure this is as big of a deal as it appears at first. Towards the end of the article, it says the options don't vest for 2 years. And I don't think he can keep the FSD/Robotaxi hype the current share price is based on going for 2 more years. At least not without some actual results. If...

Tesla loses Autopilot wrongful death case in $329 million verdict

I can't believe that Tesla let this get to trial without settling. Unless the plaintiff was just determined to follow through with the lawsuit and refused settlement. But regardless, there is now a legal precedent holding Tesla at fault for an accident involving autopilot. I'd wager the price of...

So far, only one-third of Americans have ever used AI for work

It is entirely possible there is a flaw in the sampling for the poll. For example, if the poll is conducted online, then respondents are going to tend to be folks who spend lots of time online. Which is going to skew towards the portion of the population that uses ai and not towards farm workers...
