While some Big Tech players accelerate PQC readiness, others stay the course

What impact (if any) would error-corrected qubits have on these projections? Would that reduce the physical qubit requirement sufficiently to shorten horizons further? Edited for clarity: I probably should have used IBM’s terminology of “fault tolerant” arrangements or qLDPC codes.

    Here’s Volvo’s new EX60 $60,000 electric midsize SUV

Any indication if they are going to do factory delivery for the EX60? Did that with my XC in 2021 and it was a great way to enjoy a visit to Scandinavia. I seem to recall they were not offering factory delivery for the initial run of EX90s when they came out because of the charging...

LG TVs’ unremovable Copilot shortcut is the least of smart TVs’ AI problems

And this is why we have to desolder microphones and cameras from brand new TVs, get a different remote, and blackhole (or creatively route) the network connection. I love the quality of my LG set, but goodness, why does love have to be so much work?

Can’t understand dialogue on TV shows? Netflix has a new feature for you.

They really do -- "Squelches wetly" is one of my favorites

With new contracts, SpaceX will become the US military’s top launch provider

True. I don't see Putin handing over the keys for Kosmos-2553 to international peacekeepers any time soon.

For the first time, a Dragon spacecraft will be used to move the space station

If the Russian section is cleaved at some point, this would present a decent opportunity to finally test VASIMR.

Linus Torvalds reiterates his tabs-versus-spaces stance with a kernel trap

I was right there with you until the hot fruit. :/

What’s going on with the reports of a room-temperature superconductor?

From a research perspective, posting this on the arXiv is a fantastic way to parallelize the search through the potential space of small crystalline deviations having large impact on superconductivity. Twitter has been like a turbocharged natural selection engine for research variability here.

Wildfire smoke and haze in the Eastern United States should peak this week

Relax Francis, this is like a typical Tuesday in Seoul.

The Nexus 7 was Google’s only great tablet, and it has never tried to replace it

I still use my Manta (Nexus 10) with a Kali build for fun projects. Battery life is suboptimal at this point, lol.

Porsche bumps battery capacity, charging speed for 2024 Cayenne hybrid

Probably because they were facing the pacing threat of the Volvo XC90 T8 at the previous capacity/power/charging rate levels. Good to see the incremental improvements in the hybrid realm still occuring amidst the sea change to BEV; provides for a variety of use cases.

The Volvo XC60 Recharge benefits from bigger hybrid battery

While it might not be physically labeled (my shifter is labeled the same as your picture above), B Mode is still there, one aft-ward tap when in Hybrid- or Pure- Drive. A further aft tap when in B Mode returns you to Drive. This is from my '23 XC90 T8, so I acknowledge it is not a perfect...

LastPass says hackers have obtained vault data and a wealth of customer info

Bueller? ----------- Passwords are easy to change. Will also give me good impetus to go through and prune as many disused accounts as possible. The thornier issues (as many have noted here) are how you use secure notes / files storage (ie emergency keys, wallets seeds, unencrypted banking...

“Just a bunch of idiots having fun”—a photo history of the LAN party

For some reason, when I pull the article up in mobile, the middle few paragraphs (and an inset photo) repeat over and over... Scrolling for days through the middle of the article. As one of my professors said (way back when) when I turned in a paper that was a page over the length limit: great...

Volvo’s next electric vehicle is the new US-made EX90 SUV

If I had to guess, I would say something along the lines of the Plus trim for the current XC90. The verbiage Volvo uses there is well equipped with the most often requested options.

Review: Oura Ring 3 and Whoop 4.0 are 2 ambitious wearables, but they’re tough sells

I fully acknowledge that I write this from a perspective of having no budget concerns when it comes to these types of devices. Similar to @Focher, above, I used an oura 2 for a number of years and upgraded to a 3 when they came out, this came with a slightly reduced price ($350 for the stealth)...

Polestar brings a cheaper, single-motor Polestar 2 to the US

Also a model 3 owner for 3 years. Always in there: charging adapters and tire puncture/reinflate kit In there on short trips: particularly appetizing carry out so I don't get hangry while driving back home In there on long trips: carry-on sized backpack and jacket On long trips (usually...
