Netflix increases prices for all plans by up to $2 per month

You know what price has stayed the same?

Not subscribing to them.
For only $5.99 a month, you too can not subscribe to Netflix. For $8.99 a month, we’ll let you not subscribe without advertisements in your mailbox and your email box. For only $10.99 a month, we will enable sitting under a lemon tree in your own backyard to listen to the bees in the blossoms.

I love crime shows and they have a lot of quirky and/or creepy European shows and right now I'm still plugging away on Black-ish, almost done with season 6 with two more to go.
If you can put up with subtitles I highly recommend MHz as a good choice for European mystery shows. L’Art du Crime is excellent. BritBox and Acorn TV also have a lot of detective shows, but in English.

Im all for people offering a service and making money from it. What i hate is when they charge more for no reason or when the service is degraded. Netflix and crunchyroll are perfect examples, for me. Netflix is constanly raising prices while offering less programming, poorly developed original programming, and even bad subtitles.
Crunchy has been good at adding programming but they just tried a new video player which was terrible. Their subtitles/CC are getting worse by the day, wrong words, timing, missing localization.
All that and total streaming costs are going above and beyond what traditional cable used to be.
The consumers are trying but these companies make it difficult.

Sounds like they had already figured out the hidden price hike to be buried in the hike coming from merging with HBO max. So why not go ahead with it anyway?

It’s so bizarre to me that people keep taking it from Netflix to this degree. When does the mass exodus stage of enshittification start?

Maybe it's finally time to stop paying Netflix and use that money on Kagi.
If the money has to be spent instead of saved, I'd rather spend it on pizza or coffee.

If they actually went through with the WBD m&a then the increase would have some justification. But increasing prices while not actually incurring any increased costs AND getting paid a few billion $$$'s in breakup fee by WBD.... it's pure greed and nothing else.

Ugh. If my parents and brother(and I reluctantly pay EXTRA so he can watch in his own home. On disability income the price of all these services eat up money fast)didn't watch a lot of Netflix I'd cancel a lot easier. But as it is paying for this +YTTV and a few other services is the only way I could get my parents to cut the cord a few years ago. And it just keeps going up.
I rarely if ever actually use most of it and I just started watching Seinfeld recently. Despite the crop I really enjoy the new transfer. And just about finished Black Mirror (before that, I hadn't barely used it in the last year)

LINE MUST GO UP!
I do own a decent chunk of their stock, recent purchase just a while after the dip when they were trying to get PMT. But I would much rather they didn't raise prices. Stock price be damned

Thanks for the reminder to cancel my Netflix subscription, been meaning to do that.
I did. Cancelled Nerflix and subscribed to our local PBS affiliate.

While the ad load wasn’t terrible on the cheapest tier I refuse to pay more (and we finished the subpar last season of Stranger Things).

Edit: now I’m getting a modal popover that says, “Your Netflix account will be cancelled on March 26, 2026” with two option buttons “Renew My Account” and “Remind Me Later.” It’s a crazy and infuriating dark pattern.

I'm paying for the f*cking MLB now, aren't I?

Just put it and WWE in its own tier GoshDarnIt!
Yes, Netflix is now stuffed full of sports and reality stuff that I have no interest in watching.

Time to go through my watchlist, see anything I care about, then cancel.

Maybe I'll come back for 1 month next year and catch up on anything new. Maybe,

The MLB is the worst. I quit watching entirely after I found out that blackouts still exist despite paying MLB directly for their subscription service. I could listen to the audio but the video feed was blacked out because I live the next state over from the team.

It's shit like that why people pirate live sports. If literally paying the league directly isn't enough, they don't feel bad about watching another way.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them out. I watch everything with captioning on so that's no biggie.

Trying to find a good show on Netflix is now like being trapped in the compactor in Star Wars - just walls of junk constantly closing in and squeezing the life out of the service. If you are lucky you might eventually find something to watch and it might actually not get canceled after one season or turn into junk like all the other filler.

And for $10 more you can see it at a higher resolution.

Which I did last time they raised prices here.

Netflix prices have gone up by over 50% in Australia over the past decade and their offerings are far worse. As competition has increased, so have prices, the opposite of what market forces types always tell us will happen.

Not missing them.
To be fair, the official Australian inflation figures say that ~33% came just from inflation. That still leaves the rest and the diminishing quality of the content but a lot of people underestimate the impact of inflation, especially around COVID where it skyrocketed so fast it broke people's intuition of prices.

I think part of these stupid prices is the sport. I have no interest at all in Netflix having sport, especially American football and baseball (not being American), nor wrestling or women's world cup.

Maybe instead of these artificial tiers like 4k (where you don't really get 4k), they should split out sport and live events.

Disney+ and Netflix combined cost what basic cable does... We predicted this day would come, where streaming enshitification would be complete, but I'm kinda shocked how quickly everything has actually gone to hell
I just see the mickey mouse from south park popping through the wall going ho ho!
