Wii, Kinect, Move organization problems? The TriMount has you covered

There are people out there with a Wii, a Kinect for their Xbox 360, and a PlayStation Eye for the PlayStation Move. There might not be many gamers who deal with keeping all three sensors organized, but a new product keeps things looking... nice?

I think $29.99 is a perfectly reasonable price for it - sure you could charge more, but you have to balance the fact that someone else will just copy the damn idea and make for less. I can see it possibly be useful for those with just two of the systems (PS3+Wii, Xbox360+Wii).

But at $29.99, I think it's as high as whoever makes it could reasonably charge - and we'll still get complaints that it's "too expensive" because it's just a piece of molded plastic that cost $1 to make. Hell, I own all three (no Move though - Move doesn't work on old firmware) and I'm not sure I'd pay $29.99 for it - if it was $15 it's a no-brainer, but $30 is a touch on the high side for what it is. Even the Kinect stands are considered ripoffs at $30+.

The product will cost $29.99, and I think they missed the boat with that price. If you're selling to people who have a PS3, 360, and Wii, along with a Kinect, and PlayStation Eye, you can go ahead and aim for a higher price point. After all, it's a set of gamers who obviously are not hurting for discretionary funds.

Uhh... that's not true at all. The systems have been out long enough that even a poor gamer who loves to game could end up having all 3 just by saving their money and buying used. I guess you maybe have already forgotten what it's like to be a younger/poorer gamer...?

I have all three, but only the Wii and PSEye are sharing a TV, whilst the Kinect is hooked to a separate set.
I have always been uncomfortable with the look of the Playstation Eye, its just sticks out bad. This mount seems to make the problem worse.

The wii bar sort of disapears and the Kinect looks reasonable, OTOH the Eye kind of reminds me of that Mac vs PS ad where the PC sticks a web camera to his head.

I retract this comment, and thank you Ars for not letting this old vet down.

it is so nice to see the wonderful mention of thanks Ars has made to the men and women who have laid their lives down to insure that places like Ars Technica can speak freely this Memorial Day. #sarcasm

1. You have a warped idea of what "poor" is.

2. Kinect and Move have not been out that long, and are not cheap.

After all, what possible connection could posting their own content rather than what you think they should say have to do with free speech?

At the end of the day, it's still a piece of plastic that cost less than 25c in materials, being priced at $30. A reasonable price, but no higher than that.

Even for people who could afford to go out and buy 10,000 of them, it'll feel like a rip off because the perceived value is far less than its price. Same reason to shop at DollarTree for miscellaneous kitchen utensils and dinnerware instead of Sears. It's literally the exact same item imported from China/Thailand/wherever, but one place sells them for $1.00 each and the other for $10.00.

Number 5 is alive?

No disassemble!

That thing will probably look pretty crappy perched atop a TV. We have the Kinect on the entertainment center in front of the TV, the Wii sensor bar centered on top of the TV, and the Eye off center on top of the TV. To me, it looks nicer than that thing would. Also, the eyepet game needs the camera moved relatively low, so getting it in and out of that stand would be a pain in the rear.

If you consider the money required to buy three used systems to be small change, I don't think you know what 'poorer' means. That's what, $300-500, not counting the actual games, and the Move, and the Kinect.

Seems they could've gone the extra mile and tightened up the grouping a bit. Just looking, but it seems the Wii bar would fit snugly under the kinect one, saving a bit of vertical space. And with that long lens housing and mic on top, the Move seems like it could peek over the Kinect.

Maybe I should start shaping pieces of plastic.

I don't have the PSEye, but I do have Kinect and the Wii Sensor.
It wasn't too bad, I had the Wii Sensor held to the bottom of my TV by a crumpled up piece of packing paper, and the Kinect sat just in front of that.

Last night I bought $2 worth of magnets and striker plates at the hardware store (look for the magnet catches that hold cabinets closed, made out of easily pried plastic). With a little double sided tape, I'm going to make a tasteful and non-permanent mounting solution.

The Kinect doesn't seem to need a mounting solution. It just sits there happily.
