War with...Iran?

And natural gas pipelines. And helium pipelines. And urea pipelines. And aluminum pipelines. Sounds like a plan.

The logistics of replacing the strait are a multi-decade project.

It also does not matter.. all of them are still within easy to hit distance from Iran. Same for canals. Also, I am fairly sure other gulf states are not buddies with each other. So there is a lot of challenges on the geopolitics as well.

Allow Iran controls of the strait actually limited the damage. If Iran do not have that, the oil field and other stuff would be hit instead.

I agree with that and I think the likelihood is that everyone that can is going to just pay the ransom because the alternative is a war seemingly only the Israelis and Saudi Arabia want to fight.

Perhaps premature but could be inevitable, so: would US DoW be oligated to give Hegeseth their equivalent to what the UK's Liz Truss gets if/when the former were sacked? This question is brought by the recollection of an ex-coworker who put in 19 years in the USMC but couldn't get back in shape to get that 20th year. It sounded like the 20-yr enlistment benefits would cover him as well as his spouse (and children?) for life. Of course, senior leadership/management have very different compensation structures from the grunts.
