US government finds new excuse to stop construction of offshore wind

There is no national security threat from wind turbines. Can we all admit that the United States has become a fascist country with a mad king as dictator.

Also, all the rational dissection of the stupidity and misguidedness merely amuses them. They are energized by the observation that you fully experience the maddening idiocy and irrationality, combined with the powerlessness It's part of the Trump-fascism package.

Please WIN the next election, and start preparing the bulldozers and wrecking balls and guillotines.

The recent announcement of the envoy to Greenland, might have a wee bit to do with it. (Wind Energy being one of Denmark's main exports)
You mean the spy sent to look for pro-US Greenlanders?

Perhaps Trump has realised that even Nicaragua might be capable of damaging offshore wind plants. The difficulty with being the biggest bully in the world but with only 5% of the world's population is that, as with the fall of the Roman Empire, there's an awful lot of people in a position to gnaw at the edges.

Yeah. What happens if we get in a war with Denmark and then one of our warships accidentally runs into a wind turbine, and because of that, we lose the war and Denmark annexes Massachusetts? That would be unacceptable, thus offshore wind turbines are a national security risk and must be banned.
Given the actual standard of living in Denmark, perhaps annexation wouldn't be needed. Application to join.
Of all US states, Mass. is possibly the best fit to the EU. Or as it would have to be renamed the EUU - European/American Union.

I do understand all the posters joking about “Danish annexations” here, but as a Dane, I can’t help but find it mildly inappropriate. We’re a very small and historically pro-American nation who now have to find a new way, while dealing with our own post-colonial issues. Please focus on your own issues, and we’ll try to sort out ours and figure out how to disentangle ourselves from you. Reluctantly.

For now, this is just yet another example of how the US is diverging from the rest of the so-called west. Hopefully, the damage isn’t irreparable, but we’ll see…

As a Massachusetts resident, I for one welcome our new Danish Viking overlords.

Don't. Just don't.

The danish tyrants would force untold socialist horros upon you. They would take 30% of your hard-earned money in taxes and in return only give you the pittance of free world-class health care, 25 paid vacation days a year, almost a year of maternity/paternity leave, free university education and a basic education which unlike the US sees everyone become literate, a society almost completely free of mass shootings, policemen who do their job politely and without killing people, and a society which generally works pretty well and has among the highest recorded citizen happiness ratings in the world.

Woe and horror, this would not be The American Way. Shun such damnation.

I suspect the good people.of Massachusetts would be much happier under Danish rule.

Edit: ninja'd so many times it's not even a joke any more but a plausible end game...

I worked for a Danish headquartered startup before. They fed us breakfast and lunch, the insurance was great, they have a hell of a social safety net, and the pork in Denmark was excellent. I’d also vote to let Massachusetts join Denmark.

GDPR, sane politics, and better public transportation would just be icing on the lukefisk.

Edit for typo

All correct, but of all the scandinavian dishes to bring as example, you sprang for the dried lye-cured fish we force ourselves to eat once a year in apparent punishment for eating well the rest of the time? And to be blunt, mainly norwegians and swedes go through that horror of a tradition, danes being far too sensible for such culinary masochism.

Is there a GoFundMe to help Denmark do all of this? Because I… er… a friend would love to chip in a few bucks.

Meanwhile, I’m trying to get in touch with the Brain, to find out what his plans are for once he’s taken over the world. I’m willing to consider helping him. (Truth be told, I’m willing to consider helping Pinky at this point.)
Off-topic, but to this day I can still sing every word of that theme song.

But, to answer your question: the one time I recall they managed to take over the world (by making a paper-mache world and giving away free t-shirts there), they actually got pretty bored and gave it back.

Also, any updates on the GoFundMe to help Denmark?

If he were to work with these companies, our military could probably build detection nets into the turbine infrastructure which could likely enhance our detection of military assets in the open seas.
This is the President who wants the control tower on new carriers moved forward as it "looks better".

This is he only answer. Courts won't reliably help us; and when they do SCOTUS will overturn those decisions. Congress can't figure out how to pass an effective law to release a bunch of very old investigative files. The good news is that the number of core Trump voters is clearly not growing and we still have 2/3 of the eligible voters open to being convinced to vote for Democrats.

Bad part of this is, Trump is just the tip of the festering boil which is one full third of americans being openly malicious bigoted fuckwits who'd vote for a deranged trash panda as long as it could be convinced to run with New Gilead as a platform.

You don't need 2/3 of americans to consider voting for democrats.
You need 2/3 of americans fully on board with the realization that the remaining third needs to be suppressed and ostracized as the cartoonishly evil village idiots they've proven themselves to be.

And that's a harder ask, because the third of the US which is fence-sitting are so utterly bereft of gorm they either don't grok the difference between bigoted fascists/nazis and normal politicians or do not care.

China is beating you in ALL races; energy, manufacturing, technology, military, everything.

Not yet. The US still has a solid lead, but given that the US decided to give up the race in favor of kicking rocks by the roadside and ranting maliciously about teh brown and teh gay it's not going to be that hard for China to overtake it in a sedate walk.

I know you’re just being facetious, but we’re fine 🙂 At least for the time being, Denmark is a rich country significantly increasing defence spending. We just aren’t enough people to make a significant dent in the world. But if you truly want to help our security, I’m sure Ukraine could use a bit more funding!

Other than that, everyone knows the United States could take Greenland if they truly wanted to. It’d be stupid, irrational, destructive and “succesful” — for a really weird sense of the word. You’d achieve absolutely nothing in a concrete sense, other than animosity.

Not "dumb", but "corrupt". The real reason is that there are large corporations (US Oil) who see personal profit in this. Same reason we are committing billions of taxpayer dollars to a war with Venezuela.

Indeed: anyone in competition with any of the companies in any way benefits from the incredible losses this decision just incurred. Just follow the money.
Gas and coal. Oil doesn’t care about electricity generation — its fight is against EVs, which reduce oil consumption.

I am reminded of the libertarian colleague I knew who ranted about high tax rates in Denmark, until asked to include the cost of his health insurance. That completely reversed the outcome: Americans do pay a bit less in taxes, but nowhere near what right-wing rentiers’ mythology would have you believe and our healthcare system is so inefficient that it’s like you get college education, safe retirement, etc. thrown in for free. Unless your annual income is measured in millions, Nordic socialism is hands-down better.

So, China and Russia have a lot of hypersonic attack capabilities and standard cruise missiles and even drones are in Iran and NK's arsenal...

And these are essentially radar-blocking-machines.

I think only a troll wouldn't see the obvious issue here. I think classification was just to slow the media blitz a bit (again, obviously)
Cruise missiles are WW2 technology. You think the US military only learned about them in the past few days?

I didn't expect in my lifetime that I would see the fall of a great empire.
The Greenland things, the Trump-class battleship, and now the wind turbine ban.
Is the world going back to my grandparents' time of 1950?
Recent sagas of the White House seem to be just like a new episode of "The Simpsons."
What has happened to the once great county of U.S.A.? Why so dysfunctional?

Wrong century. The 1950s was the height of American dominance. The U.S. is going back to the 1850s.

I think there are more folks with them now and the ability to launch from sea than ever before-- and certainly more than 10 years ago.
Ten years ago it had been about 50 or so years since the Soviets could do it, and it was extremely foreseeable that China would be able to figure it out as well, not to mention all the US allies.

If this was a real worry, then the US would have been out there installing towers to better surveil the territorial waters.

no problem, Europe and China will diversity its own energies sources without the amurika.

and ho yes, we will use the armies and weapons, the amurika forces us to invest and purchase, to pressure africa and middle-east to provide more resources without the amurika.

my point is : WE should ENCOURAGE the amurika to shut down itself and to drill itself to hell.

And I really hope the amurikans will vote amurika to "live alone, without the rest of the world". Just stop to comment and meddle beyond your lands.

You, the amurikan being, should exist only in your current land. Never beyond.
