Are you sure that's a typo? Maybe they invested the payroll in some kind of highly speculative security, and it went poof. The email says this “might be a delay in Interbank settlement,” but adds the company is “actively investing [sic] with our bank and will keep you posted.”
There have been reports that EU workers have been showing up, as usual, because Twitler's ultimatum is completely unenforceable under EU law, and this is why Twitter hasn't keeled over yet. Still... how long do you suppose people are going to keep showing up if they're not getting paid? Especially when you have to deal with Twitler as a boss who seems to change his mind from one minute to the next. You know, we were all betting that after the great purges Twitter would suffer a technical failure that brought it down. But while it certainly seems to be degrading it hasn't quite gone down yet. Now seeing this I'm starting to think that even with the speed run of technical and institutional destruction good old financial difficulties and failures may still win out as the death blow to Twitter and that the technology stack may outlive the company just on its own automation and inertia
The only one I heard of is the executive in Ireland getting an injunction against her getting fired.Sooo, any update on those unlawfully "fired" (not really – the law doesn't allow firing just by not clicking an email "OK" link here, and not even in Ghana!) EU or Africa regional HQs employees? Are they still getting paid, as per the local laws?
Musk's infatuation with lines of code written has outgrown creepiness and now seems quasi-religious. I don't understand how much he doesn't understand.sent an email to managers demanding to see what code they've written in the past 10 days saying that them not writing code would be like "a cavalry leader not knowing how to ride a horse"
You might be joking, but seriously, I wouldn't be that surprised if Elon just had the payments delayed so he could get a few % on some quick‑turnaround fund returns. Even if they get paid (hopefully!) a few days later, that's still a gain for the company, even if highly deplorable one. Although, by now I wouldn't be really surprised if he indeed had lost it on speculative securities like in your SP clip...Are you sure that's a typo? Twitter PR? What's that? Some poor bastard trying to comment on the ceasless firehose of dumb that is now Twitter? Good luck with that.Unfortunately expected when most of your payroll staff quit or were fired, yet Twitter PR double speak makes it sound like they are surprised there is an issue.![]()
Musk is a clown, that's the answer. A sad, pathetic clown, but a clown nevertheless.Musk's infatuation with lines of code written has outgrown creepiness and now seems quasi-religious. I don't understand how much he doesn't understand.
Savage. Fair, and totally called for, but still savage.Twitter did not respond to a request to comment on this story. It is unclear whether they have any communications staffers still employed after layoffs.
Oh, you'd definitely continue to show up at work if some scumbag company tried to unlawfully fire you in the EU. After all, you are still considered to be employed there under the law, and courts will order a full reimbursement of the backpay owed and more. There have been reports that EU workers have been showing up, as usual, because Twitler's ultimatum is completely unenforceable under EU law, and this is why Twitter hasn't keeled over yet. But can the employees go through the courts faster than twitter collapses, so they can still get paid before the money runs out?Sounds like a lawsuit Twitter can't win.
While I was making a kind of tongue-in-cheek comment, I was also thinking about a real-life example of someone doing something similar. You might be joking, but seriously, I wouldn't be that surprised if Elon just had the payments delayed so he could get a few % on some quick‑turnaround fund returns. If it doesn't fold soon, I hate to to think of what their code base is going to look like in a year with everyone in the company committing as much code as possible to keep their jobs.Musk's infatuation with lines of code written has outgrown creepiness and now seems quasi-religious. I don't understand how much he doesn't understand.
They need to send in $8 to recieve their check.Elno is probably personally verifying each check vs the recipients submittted "screenshots of lines of salient code."
Was gonna say the same thing.Having been in a company where the paychecks start bouncing, Twitter is dead within 6 months, tops
I worked at a place for a while where expense payments in the last month of a quarter were always delayed into the following quarter. Nothing like working at a company that's barely staying in business by not covering your expenses. They did always pay me on time though. Was gonna say the same thing.
Another dead giveaway is when a company starts saying they're "having problems with their suppliers." The "problem" is nearly always that their suppliers haven't been payed.
