Trump FCC warns all broadcasters to follow orders or be punished like ABC

Disney's gonna win this one, as always. Just you wait. The mouse and his deep pockets will outlast this crop of fascists, too.

Will it? The broadcasters have pretty much cravenly bowed down to all the previous extortion demands.
The question is if this one will cause them to grow a spine.

Someone needs to start an Exhibition of Degenerate Art somewhere in Washington where people with the right contacts will be able to watch things like The Simpsons until the ICE comes to shut it down.

(For context, Hitler banned "degenerate art" so someone started an exhibition of exactly what it was Germans should not be looking at or approving of. It was so popular there were queues, and the Gestapo shut it down.)

It's marvelous how republicans stooges redefine basic vocabulary to invert its meaning. Inclusion is now discrimination. Freedom means taking away freedoms. Free speech means censorship. justice means crime. information means disinformation. Fight off this corrupt fascist nazi regime at the ballot box.

For context, 1984 was during Reagan's first term.

While true, I think some of the broadcasters have decided there is no reasonable level of compliance they can do. They held their nose and tried to just side step controversy. See Disney backpedaling with DeSantis over Florida's anti-gay laws. I think this time they have decided they can't just bend the knee and move on.

A lot, even corporations, can only go so far on "go along to get along" and the current further descent is pushing them to their red lines.

Unfortunately, the Supreme Court isn't on their side, and both legal and historical precedent means nothing to them.
Ehh, maybe. They are mostly ruling against the administration in the most egregious cases. This happens to be one of them. I think some of the justices have realized, this isn't the regime that is going to solidify themselves and going along with it is going to be a REAL bad look at the end of the day. So better to preserve some push back against the next presidency by not just nodding to the worst abuses least they get COMPLETELY ignored with hypocritical rulings if they tried to turn around on the next presidency.

Taking the shadow docket into account, the current SCOTUS protects the Trump administration about 90% of the time. I mean, for fucking fucks sake, they just killed the VRA.

Yea, there is a portion of the base that are, let's just say, unsharpened tools.. there their is that portion that are filthy rich (and just filthy) or at least wealthy enough to be above the law for the most part.

What I often ponder is that portion that or relatively normal intelligence and sensibilities and aren't otherwise well to do.. they must know that down roads like these is kleptocracy and/or fascism.

It must occur to them that moves like this, among many other, absolutely spit in the face of our constitution. All of this on top of the very same people doing the spitting on Monday, are fleecing their base and the American coffers on Tuesday, blatantly.

I get that ideological, racial and cultural drivers are extremely powerful, but even those motivators have proven themselves to be empty to Trump - his followers by now must know he's neither a religious man, nor a moral one and he isn't really driven by 95% of the ideological and cultural venom he spews.
Sure he's racist, but when it come to making money vs being racist, he will choose money every time. He will choose money over 99% of everything else (including family, as has been shown).

But again, these people I ponder will still go and vote republican.
They will be freezing to death due to their state's leadership failure and said leadership will even be caught trying to flee that horrid conditions.. and they will vote for this person again.

I know I ramble about tribalism basic everyone here understands already - but I can't help to be completely fascinated by how breathtakingly foolish people can be and in many cases do so over things that aren't necessarily real or otherwise not particularly impactful to their lives.
What is that, that can make people so... for lack of any better term... stupid?

You forgot "war is peace"... but Orwell will give you a pass since all the others noted are demonstrably accurate. Your thinking is double-plus-good.

Gonna have to make a private right of action or a 'bounty law' or something to let people personally go after government officials blatantly and repeatedly violating the law and constitution. A lot of the shit they're doing is either done with enough pressure to make the people and organizations with standing back down, or is so crazy that it was never expected that the executive branch itself would be the one breaking it even while they're supposed to be the ones enforcing it. And then I'm ending qualified immunity and flying away on my unicorn. Fuck

Not only should ABC fight this, but so should every network unless they are already living in Trump's colon.
CBS and Barry Weiss are already in there somewhere for sure. Recent highlights: refusing to renew Alfonsi's contract after she took an earlier stand on Weiss' bullshit story pull (clearly to the administration's benefit); replacing the experienced executive producer with some filmmaker clown (zero journalism experience); and hiring a podcaster (!!) for the team.

Weiss is turning one of the more storied investigative news programs in American history into a complete shit show. Until she is fired and these mistakes are corrected, I will not watch 60 Minutes again (and I've been watching for 20+ years). CBS can go fuck themselves. Cowards.

One can only hope some of the remaining veteran reporters there will either speak out bluntly about these BS trends, quit, or both. Reconstitute the real show on a real network or streaming service, then call it "40 Minutes" to account for the 20 used for ads, and as a middle finger to CBS.

That statement assumes the government plays by the rules. They have proven, again and again, that they don't give a damn about the rules.
Here hoping it ends in only a couple of more years.

disney is gonna settle this, they can see the game clock is approaching half time and likely know any settlement they make won't bind them if the democrats win in 2028 anyway
Im highly doubting that 2028 elections will change anything. Regardless of there being actually fair elections in 2028 or not.

Jan 6th happened. And only because Pence decided to grow a spine all of a fuckin sudden that Trump was removed from office. And Pence was immediately called a "traitor" for actually defending US democracy. And you know whats he like.

Seriously doubt Vance would do the same come 2028.

2028 elections will probably happen, will be a "show" elections.

Regardless of people actually go out and vote. Its very likely it wont be fair.

We've seen it Jan 6th, and as a Russian born Canadian, I see "show" elections often.

A fucking disgrace if there ever was one. Until Weiss is fired and these mistakes are corrected, I will not watch 60 Minutes again (and I've been watching for 20+ years). CBS / Paramount can go fuck themselves. Cowards.

With two correspondents and an executive producer from 60 minutes suddenly being available this is the perfect opportunity for ABC or NBC to swoop in and add them to 20/20 or Dateline. I bet others would follow.

Not saying they aren't being incredibly destructive. They are trying to help as much as they can, but the shadow docket and final decisions are a different thing. Give as much runway as possible, but starting to crash and burn at landing. Again, they don't want a precedent that the same justices need to then rule against in a next administration.

Except then they've already accepted that the government can dictate what they do, so they can't fight back if Democrats do it.

They're different on procedural grounds, but the material effects remain. The court has fundamentally reshaped executive powers with the shadow docket. Given the court's penchant for overturning precedent, it's not a convincing argument to say they worry about precedent.

The more he fights against DEI, and deporting immigrants who are bringing other religions, and making life harder for LGBTQ+, the more of a freedom-fighter-for-God he is to many. Seriously, I have members of my own family who think he's "a good christian man, doing his best, being defamed by godless liberals at every turn". Biden, despite going to Mass on a regular basis for decades was "godless", but Trump. who's been to church like twice in the last few decades (IIUC) and has said "I've never prayed for forgiveness because I've never done anything I need to be forgiven for" around 2015, is becoming more and more christian.

Then again, in the circles I was raised in the 80s, GOP were the party for christians because of "law-and-order" and "it's where smart people and scientists go" and such drivel. I was young and naive and swallowed those lies for a while. While not in the US, we were often told we were similar to the SBC, which was taken as a point of pride. It was only much more recently I learned how abhorrent the SBC is not just in general, but even as a "christian" denomination, etc..

No, these people do NOT know he's not a religious man - witness the pastor praying for blessings on "the new ballroom" at the white house recently. FFS, these people think Trump is the epitome of what they think religion is - a rich guy, so he must be blessed, and he has all the same prejudices / bigotry they do, so he's a great man. His rambling style even reminds me a lot of some preachers, which is why I think he appeals to a lot of the average crowd - he doesn't talk like a PhD scientist (who they all distrust now).
