Trump’s DOJ is not falling for Sam Bankman-Fried’s MAGA makeover on X

Pointing out that Bankman-Fried was “one of the largest donors to President Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign,” Buckley alleged that Bankman-Fried’s abrupt party-swapping was “a political strategy the defendant pre-planned and committed to in writing before he was convicted, and one he is now executing from prison in an insincere attempt to obtain leniency.”
Well, unfortunately that doesn't change the sad fact that is if WAS a "Republican" and large donor to republicans prior to his conviction by the Biden administration that he would have most likely received a pardon.

Wow.

The only person in the world dumber than Trump is SBF. I can't believe SBF thought he could win his way into a pardon without a bribe to the president, which is hard to do while in prison.

The fact that his major donation to the democrats in 2020 is what damned him though, because as someone else said if it had been to Trump he'd already be out of prison.

SBF put himself in an impossible position when he tried to pay trump not to run.

On the one hand, he never paid and trump certainly feels stiffed. On the other hand, even making the offer is a powerful signal of disapproval that trump won’t forget. I once tried to pay a busker in the Boston Common to not play while I was there; the guy instead took my money and followed me around playing louder and worse. trump is likely to stick it to SBF in the same way he rewards doubt and resistance from others, like Tim Walz and Minneapolis.

According to Bankman-Fried, he deserves a new trial not only because the government supposedly threatened his colleagues to push an allegedly fake narrative, but also because it was “false” to say he’d stolen from FTX customers.

Those who were harmed have since been repaid between 119 to 143 percent of the value of their lost cryptocurrency holdings, Bankman-Fried claimed.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics as they say.

The only reason creditors were repaid more (in dollars) is because the value of the remaining crypto holdings increased by more than the amount he and his gang of criminals embezzled. The creditors are still down and always will be compared to if he hadn't stolen from them in the first place.

"The former Democratic megadonor". That's a bit incomplete. SBF admitted that he gave just as much to the GOP but he did it quietly because he thought it would hurt his reputation. The point being that the only point to giving to either party was an effort to curry favor, which worked with the public on Democratic giving but worked with the party on Republican giving.

These days, Bankman-Fried frequently praises Trump’s policies and quotes his Truth Social posts on X. He also regularly rants against Democrats, including Biden officials who, he claimed in a motion for a new trial, intimidated FTX employees into lying on the stand or refusing to testify in order to take down Bankman-Fried as a political foe.
But the stupid fuck has no money to pay the bribes to Trump et al. to get them to do what he wants.

It's always pay to play, and he ain't got the entry fee.

Why try grifting a grifter, who knows perfectly well that you no longer can obtain the cold hard cash to make the grift in any way plausible. Unless you have secretly obtained futures on Orville Reddenbacher stock.

Just like most (all?) tech billionaires, SBF doesn't have any convictions to a given ideology beyond that related to his own wealth, power, and influence. He donated millions of dollars to Republican campaigns, albeit secretly through back-channels. But sad for SBF, that doesn't work for Trump, who values the perception of loyalty above all else.

It's not at all surprising that SBF would try this tactic both due to a lack of any moral conviction but also because of the evidence that flattering the President is a direct path to getting a pardon. What SBF forgot is to hide some of the money he stole so that he could use it to buy Trump's preferred crypto for receiving graft.

One note on the article, grand juries don't issue convictions. Buckley's filing actually indicates that SBF was convicted by petit jury which is just legalese for a normal jury.

Like most crime bosses and their networks, MAGA can't rely on legitimate law and so must rely on hard power and a policy of loyalty and vindictiveness. The other guy is a literal murderer among many other offenses? Permissible, even laudable, given the right circumstances. But being seen to have been a patron of political enemies? Even if it was self-serving, it still cannot stand. There is no greater crime.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how is SBF able to post on the internet if he's incarcerated?
He is a very special boy, you know, like Ross Ulbricht, Changpeng Zhao, and many other human parasites. His parents belong in prison as well, but they plead ignorance, to escape that plight.

Trying to flatter Trump to get out of jail free is probably one of his more logical moves over the last years and outright sensible compared to the stuff for what he was jailed ...
Its rarely flattery that earns a pardon. It requires a hard bribe or a direct order from Israel. The later seems occupied currently so hell have to rely on the former.

From the article.

Buckley said the document showed how, “in the aftermath of FTX’s collapse,” Bankman-Fried “mapped out a rehabilitation and pardon campaign.”
...
However, many of the ideas were executed as planned, Buckley wrote. For example, Bankman-Fried planned to “come out as Republican” in an interview with Tucker Carlson, which happened.
...
Bankman-Fried also, in his document, considered using X to “come out against the woke agenda” and push the narrative that he had hidden Republican donations, which also happened.
emphasis mine
