Tech world moves equipment, talent, cash to help out Haiti

Tech companies large and small have mobilized efforts to help get communications back up in Haiti, and even the Federal Communications Commission is behind it. Add to that the massive support for texting donations, and there's a serious movement on behalf of the tech world.

First the US would have to stop its occupation of Haiti and stop its blockade. The US is treading a dangerous path here. I very much doubt the tech world is actually moving any equipment, talent, or cash that isn't from the US.

The US currently thinks the world is its playground and that it is allowed to do anything.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If this concern, support and money had been given before-hand, then this could have been prevented or at least lessened. But, no, people wait until disaster strikes, and then they want to show up like good samaritans. The leaders of Haiti knew this was going to happen, but they couldn't do much due to lack of funds. But now everyone's all about helping Haiti.

It's the 21st century. Stuff like this is preventable and shouldn't happen. The fact that it does means that we let it, and that's the real tragedy.

quote:

Tens of thousands of american soldiers are currently on Haitian soil at the moment.

ZOMG! There were tons of soldiers in New Orleans after Katrina struck too! That must have been a huge occupation of New Orleans!

Dude, you send in a butt-load of troops so you can secure the area and make sure looters and scavengers don't out-right rob and murder the rescue & aid crews. Are you this stupid?

It landed the next day when things were safe. More US-bashing is the last thing that is needed in a time like this.

"It's the 21st century. Stuff like this is preventable and shouldn't happen. The fact that it does means that we let it, and that's the real tragedy."

That's why I tune to ARS: for the latest in scientific developments. I had no idea that we could now prevent earthquakes. Knowing that, I too am now upset that "we" allowed this earthquake to happen.

It's not exactly like this is a common occurrence, and it's not like this isn't a poor country.

first Haiti isn't occupied by the united states, but by a special UN mission called Minushtad.

second, as someone pointed out, their main problem is money, and the fact that they don't have any natural resources to exploit, but you cant simply solve the problem by giving them money as there is to much corruption.

and something ill like to point out, is that it was actually Viva, a Trilogy Branch in the Dominican Republic that helped restore voila infrastructure.

First off, regardless of the previous intentions. It's good to see humanity come together in a crisis.

Now to be contradictory: I would personally love to see a continent wide earthquake here so that all the of the communications infrastructure could get a well needed upgrade. If that's what it takes, let's get it done!

Hey Ueffo, that's not all! I head in the Youtube Gospel according to Kanye, verse 3:chapter 12 "and lo unto the masses a statement was made,'George Bush hates black people.' The disciple Mike Myers was stunned by the truth and silence fell across the nation." *Rolls Eyes*

Some of the 82nd had landed, but that was a few hundred. Hardly "thousands".

As to troops having been stationed there, they were all from South American countries - Brazil, I believe, being the most prominent.

Just because you have unfettered access to all sorts of information, that doesn't mean you should believe every backwater crackpot that posts something as "fact". I think we at least agree that this would also include the major news outlets.
