Suddenly "Your Apple ID and phone number are now being used ... on a new Mac"

Overnight suddenly my laptop got recognized as a "new mac."
I woke it up to see that system preferences no longer recognized VMWare Fusion as having its needed accessibility permissions, and just by logging in it triggered my watch to ask if I should trust this mac and across my devices triggered the "Your Apple ID and phone number are being used for iMessage and FaceTime on a new Mac" stating that if I recently signed in to <name of my Laptop> I could ignore this message.

Why would this be triggered? Should I be scared that someone has hacked into my computer? It's currently powered off and I'm really confused about why it would suddenly think it's new. Usually these messages only happen when I've literally logged into a new mac or I've restored a mac from backup or something.

Please advise. :scared:

You’ll frequently see this after operating system updates or upon logging back into iCloud or Messages. I’m not saying there’s no reason for concern but from what I read from your description I (personally) wouldn’t be worried.

Did Apple roll out some kind of hot fix or something? I don't do auto updates though I know on occasion Apple pushes out hot fixes.

Not on my Mac, but I got a notification on my iPhone to log in to my icloud account to enable some features. It was a notification on the Settings app itself. Never had that request before.

For the OP, I would log via web in to appleid.apple.com and check under "Devices" to see all devices that are signed in to your iCloud account and remove any you dont recognize.
