Your comment made me wonder if there is a way you could buy Starlink, use it for 2-3 years, and then if fiber comes to your neighborhood, sell the Starlink hardware (at some discount like for $200) and transfer the account to a new person? Or do they not allow transfers?
Yes, that's doable.

Wait, I've been paying $120 a month since 2023 because Starlink deemed we were in an area with "limited capacity".

Now this article suggests that I am in a state with EXCESS capacity. So, technically I could buy a new dish kit, get upgraded capability, AND only pay $90 a month? I'm doubtful.
Still, the upgraded WiFi might be worth it with just the reduced hardware price.

Edit Just checked my service address in Starlink. $120/month service, $299 Hardware cost. Hmm.
Would depend on the distribution of Starlink users in the state. The entire state might have excess capacity, but that doesn't mean that every Starlink cell in the state has excess capacity. Look around at your neighbours homes and see how many Dishys you see on the roofs. Remember, Starlink cells are something like 10 km diameter circles. You're sharing capacity with every Dishy in that cell.

Same as how some states could be listed as "limited capacity" but users in specific cells in the state could be paying the lower "excess capacity" rate.
