Thanks for the tip, DebtAngel. I may give it a try, like I said I mostly use the shield skills, which I've already got in the 6-0 slots. I just feel I may be missing out by not using some of the others as often as I should. I'm Commander (26), Engineer flying and Akira, and I seem to do okay until I lose situational awareness and get surrounded, or, if it's Borg, I tend to break out... in a cold vacuum.

One of the launcher ads is linking to a page describing a new event: Dilithium Mining
Yeah, I tried that this afternoon. If you visit the asteroid this weekend, you get a free EVA suit, otherwise it'll be 80,000 Dil. The "mining" itself isn't too hard to get the hang of... you have two sets of triangles with rounded points, one white one red, use the onscreen controls to rotate and shrink or expand the white to match the red. The faster you do it, the more you get. It's a daily mission, and probably only good for about 400 - 500 Dil.

A lot of PvP at Ker'rat tonight! Warped into about four or five Klingon ships just tearing the place up. We got about four of them before I bought it, and I don't know how I lasted that long since my keyboard was locked up, so I just sat at the spawn point shooting anything that got close enough, and trying to keep my shields up. I've only been playing for about three weeks, but I've never seen any PvP there until this weekend. People must be getting bored.

This is annoying. I'm playing the episode "What Lies Beneath", I just killed the hologram, so I should have the encryption key to open the door and continue the mission. But I don't have that option, I can't activate the console to open the door, and my away team is just standing in one spot and won't follow me. Anybody ever have this happen, and is my only choice to replay the mission? 'Cause this mission creeps me out, and it's a bitch to see anything, even with the laughable "flashlight".

You could try disabling some graphics eyecandy. During that mission my brother was laughing while looking at my screen (running on a shiny desktop with a decent graphics card) as I futzed around in the dark. On his laptop with integrated crap graphics there wasn't any dynamic lighting or something, so the level looked like it was lit normally.
I'll give that a try, but I might just go back to it later. I'd just as soon skip the episodes for a while, as I level, but they seem to offer the most skill points (unless I'm missing something, which is possible being a bit noobish.).

the fastest way to level?

do the Mirror universe event, its an hour long, you can get a few runs in and you can start doing it at level 20, so many ships, do some aoe and reap the xp.

its on about a 14 hour cycle tho, so you may or may not get it each time.
Yeah, that's coming up now, or in the next hour (can't remember). Unfortunately, I have to get up at 5 a.m. for work. Not sure if I'm ready for it though, I don't know what sector I was in, but I entered a deep space engagement and it was a bunch of Terran Fed ships. I was dust before I could even decide what button to mash first.

I'll have to replay it later then, as my away team will just not move. They'll move to a rally point okay, but they won't follow me anywhere. I've already quit the mission, so I'll probably just drop it for now.
The entire Devidian line sucks, as do the rewards. So if your having to much trouble from bugs you can always skip it.
I'll probably do that, as long as it doesn't prevent me from advancing to other stories. On a previous toon, I made it to the "Everything Old is New" mission, but I really dislike it when Trek does the old Time Travel gimmick, so no loss there.

Gotta love the 2xp weekend. Went from Capt. to RA Upper in two days, just doing system patrols and half a dozen fleet actions. I guess freebies don't get a free ship at Upper, so my trusty Luna will have to do me. Not much into the hardcore grinding, so after about a week with this toon, I've only got about 26,000 Dil.
And my Doff's suck. Freaking Trade mission, and 3 end up in sickbay for 17 hours.

Yay me! Managed to hit the Academy event just at starting, and managed go score over 2000 Dil. With a "turn in contraband" finishing in less than an hour, today will be one of my best yet. Not bad for coming off a midnight shift at work. I guess the real trick for getting Dilithium is just to learn were all the sources are. I really need to upgrade my weapons, I'm only about 8000 xp away from VA, and my phaser arrays are only Mk VIII's.

All this time, I've just been feeding unwanted loot into the replicator. It finally occurred to me to SELL it on the exchange, after I blew about 500,000 ec on new weps. Alot of the stuff seems so overpriced, I've just been selling stuff for a little under what the game says the value is. Fancy tactical console - 15,000? Sell it for 12,000. The first five items I posted, three sold within the hour. Nice way to make a little ec, free up some inventory, and someone gets an upgrade that might have been previously out of reach. I'm starting to see that there's more to this game than just flying around blowin' shit up. Now I just have to do something about my inferior Doffs, who end up in sickbay after a failed "treat minor injury" mission.

Edit: Wow, at this rate, I'll double my post count in this thread alone.

Okay, I think I need some weapons advice. I just hit VA, engineer flying an assault cruiser. My loadout is as follows - fore 2xMk VIII phaser beam arrays and 2xMk IX phaser beam arrays; aft 2xMk VIII phaser beam arrays, 1xMk X plasma torp, 1xMk X tricobalt torp.
Most of it's pretty stock stuff. I'm actually not doing too badly, but I feel half the time I'm going 'splody is because the battle is just dragging on too long. I'm almost one of those 1:30 probe people mentioned earlier.
Any suggestions on how to pack more of a punch? I've got about 550,000 ec and 60,000 dil to work with.

Seems some on the official forums are none too pleased with some of the updates with this latest patch, especially the progressive respawn timer for STF's. Right now, I really have no desire to do STF's (as a relative noob, they sound a bit intimidating, what with certain things needing to be done in certain order), and I'm only about 2/3's of the way into the Romulan episodes, so I've got plenty of play left. I may ask for an invite to the Ars fleet when I'm ready for STF's (I have a feeling most of you would be more forgiving of noob errors, as long as it isn't something ridiculously pants-on-headed).
In other news, blew most of my dilithium buying a Defiant, and loading her up with blue Mk X tet weps. Only done a few deep space engangements so far, but man, it's like going from a Caddy with a shotgun stuck out the window, to a Ferrari with a roof-mounted machine gun.

Yeah, I'm an Engineer, so I have a couple shield buffs slotted plus Brace for Impact (with a doff that give a chance to regen shields when taking damage). I'm rather suprised that it's not as fragile as I'd thought it would be. Reading through this thread, I got the impression that if you totally lost your shields, it's game over, but I've been shieldless and hull down to 65%, and survived. Of course, I have Engineering Team 1 and Miracle Worker to cover my butt, plus an ample supply of Deuterium.

Well, after a less than stellar experience with someone trying to form a fleet, I think I'm ready to join the Ars fleet. Eventually I'll probably try my hand at normal STF's, about all I do now is run my Doffs, do my dailies, and hang out in DSEs, and it's getting kind of dull. So if someone can beam me an invite, I'll try to uphold the high standards of (what ever the fleet is called  ).

Whoops, knew I forgot something. It's Scott@eltech.
I'll invite you when I get home, assuming someone doesn't beat me to it (and Star Trek Online ever finishes redownloading; recently did a reinstall of Windows).

Thanks. Do I need to be in-game for the invite? Right now, I'm just sort of in and out, I'll play for maybe a half hour, log out for a bit, back in, etc.

I realize most are probably playing Diablo 3, but for those few still flying the unfriendly space, I'm a bit confused. I've just noticed that my weapons damage seems to be real flaky. I'm using blue Mk X phasers, my damage will start off at about 50 for 60, and when I activate an ability, like Brace for Impact, EPtS, just about anything not weapon related, my damage jumps to the 600 to 800 range (which I think it should be, if I remember the past few weeks I've played.).

edit: Posted on the official forums as well, a few replies, and some common sense later, the lower numbers at the beginning was because the enemies shields were still up. D'oh!
