RFK Jr.’s war on scientific expertise destroyed 27% of agency’s advisor panels

The next Administration had better take notes and already have a game plan in place to quickly be able to rectify things like this.

Whoever replaces DJT isn't going to have months-to-years to rebuild if they want to get anything done, period.
They won’t have time for anything, there is so much broken from these idiots that I really feel bad for the next president. So much has to be fixed. We then need to put new things in place to avoid another shit president like Trump coming in and doing so much destruction.

Hey, GOP voters and abstainers, how many kids did you kill today?
One of the most poingant statements I have seen on ARS!
What about a human race tired of hypocrisy?
Abortion will be a one hit wonder.
That subject was stacked by a Supreme Court that reminds me of the double stack hamburger at Checker's.
The Supreme Court seems willing to take rights away from the American people for political reasons not interpret precedent and it scares the hell out of me.

The whole plan is for sick and the elderly to die off, remove the the rich diversity and ethnicity in the country under the guise of protecting the border, then "unburden" women from work and voting.
We are looking at a society where the only blessed people will be young white uneducated men who are poor and in debt and the oligarchs that control them.

A bit of a tangent but the ability to become rich for the common folk is disappearing faster than ever... Not that it was very common to begin with though.
Kennedy's policies are just one cog in the machine of pulling the ladder up after the oligarchs to cement everyone's future as a poor serf/baby factory.

They will keep tightening the screws until we have no choice but to revolt or submit.

They don't believe in prosperity for all.
They are all truly heinous, greedy ogres who are trying to thin the herd.

What does undoing this look like?

Breaking things is always easier than building them. Often said but always true. How do you break a cycle where insufficient repair is a cue for the electorate to vote in the demolition crew again?
1) Kill the filibuster so you can actually get positive things done for your restless electorate.
2) Kill government shutdowns so the anti-governing party can't hold it hostage every X months.
3) Expand the Supreme Court so the current royalist bloc can't kill everything decent you do for the next 20+ years.

I haven't figured out what to do about propaganda. On one hand, freedom of speech and slippery slopes, but OTOH, letting blatant lies/liars run wild has brought our civilization to the brink. Maybe killing the 'buster would enable enough life-improving changes to naturally reduce the appeal of demagogues, but I doubt it.

Never a good political rant without a bit of antisemitism :/
You can fling that anti-semitism label around but nobody is buying that crap anymore. Just because you criticize Israel or politicians who support Israel doesn’t make you anti-Semitic. You can be against the genocide in Gaza and not be anti-Semitic, just as a for instance.

Stop hiding behind the accusations of anti-Semitism to make your point. If you want to defend the war with Iran, the thousands of civilian deaths that will incur including the 100+ children we murdered when we bombed a school, all the other atrocities and the coming global economic collapse then just DO IT. Stand up for what you believe in. No reason to attack other people who disagree with you with tired old tropes to make your point.

You love war, you love death, you love chaos. That’s fine, but don’t label me as anti-Semitic for disagreeing with your world view. I’m pro-human, not anti-Semitic.

Each time i read something like this, I remind myself that Trump and his bois won the popular vote. The average American actively voted for this... they wanted it. Trump has never been shy about what he wants to do. Neither is his crew. They just say out loud the parts others might keep for themselves.

So it's not like anyone didnt know.
Everybody with the gift of sight or the gift of hearing knew sheet like this would happen.

That probably over-estimates the correspondece between the information many low-info voters base their choice on, and Reality.

Once you understand that, and you can facilitate, promote and accellerate this disconnect, you have a powerful weapon. No need to bother solving actual (difficult)problems or looking ahead further than the next election. It's simply a matter of using the information landscape you control, to "prime" your voters with the right talking points, easy-to-grasp slogans, distortions and superficial takes on complex issues.

Awww .. why the hate for RFK Jr? He's just doing the job he was brought in to do. /s
You make a joke, but theres some truth to it. This man is nuts, he simply believes in most of what hes pushing, however outlandish it might seem to any discerning person. While incompetent, hes at least being somewhat honest. I would place most of the blame on the idiots who voted for the Orange Fuhrer, the spineless Gop leadership who did nothing to prevent it, and the Scotus, specially the Scotus.. Blaming Trump at this point feels useless too, i mean, its not like people didnt know what he was.

I prefer the Beth articles with non-human creepy parasites doing horrible and revolting things endangering their hosts.

This one has that, but in two layers. The initial parasite has died in its host, and its host is also a parasite on the public service and is very much active in doing horrible and revolting things to its host.

So for the first time in the history of the school at which I teach in SE Asia, America was not the #1 preferred destination for graduating students. Only one student applied to (and was accepted at) an American university this year. Australia and Canada both moved up a notch to positions 1 & 2 respectively. America dropped to #13, tied in last place with Denmark. That is not a situation which will simply bounce back in a couple of years; that is the new reality.
Obvious question: what's wrong with Denmark?

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and reply as if you're ignorant and can be saved, and not as if you're an agitprop stooge, or an irredeemable fuckwit.

I don't have a problem with Judaism. I have a problem with Israel's government and the actions thereof, and with people in our government who serve Israel ahead of the American people and the best interests of the United States.

If you think that's still antisemitism? Then I wasted the benefit of the doubt because you're one of the other categories.

Zero. The measles outbreak was because of people who already weren't vaccinated before he even took his role.
A Felon45, or an RFK Jr. or both, supporter? That is the only kind of idiot that could even look at what happened in Samoa, when RFK Jr. convinced the residents to not vaccinate against measles. 5,700 people sickened, with 83 dying from measles, most of the dead being young children. And then the measles outbreak in Texas and nearby locations resulted in at least one child dying due to some religious fanatics believing RFK Jr.'s phony claims. Your statement is so counterfactual that you could only be an anti-science troll. Is your Earth also flat and plagued with demons causing sickness? /S (for the exceptionally stupid.)

Even after he attacked Hispanics and blacks, and openly said “I don't care about you, I just want your vote”, the total idiots in the US voted for the world's most narcissistic and criminal imbecile. Low information and ultracredulous voters, aided by a low information press, have killed the US.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of the president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron." -- H.L. Mencken, in 1920

Not much; just they're not big on immigration being a small country with strong ties to neighbours that can make up for population shortfalls.

Whereas Australia desperately wants immigrants on a structural level despite rampant systemic racism against them. Australia used to also make foreign students themselves a major export industry, so it would get them before graduation, but that's sort of been bollocksed up by the universities and government screwing it up in several different ways at cross purposes.

This whole thing will go down as the most idiotic things humanity has ever done. Just makes zero sense getting this quack job into this role, we now have measles running rampant across the U.S. thanks trumpers! Idiots!

This is right up there with the “renewable energy is bad”

Damn morons! Morons run the government. Ruined the U.S. and ruining the world.
What it really points out is that many of this country’s electorate are morons. Morons who share RFK’s views and fell for Trump’s anti brown people shtick. And that the morons found a way to take over the asylum thanks to the self interest of a relatively small cadre of greedy wealthy morons. And morons who didn’t vote because they thought it was futile to resist.

I almost gave you the contrarian +1 for being technically correct. Then I remembered the RFK headed up the biggest antivax organization in the world for the last couple decades, and the mountain of bullshit that they spread likely convinced many of the parents not to vaccinate their children. So no, you don't even get the "technically correct" vote. Your statement falls into "technically true but deeply misleading", and I award you no points.

He's got the theme of the Trump administration right, make Americans suffer and die unnecessarily. Hope he's brought to justice one day.

Why?

America voted for this full bore. Too many of us wanted this or didn't give a shit about it.

No there is no 'justice' because he's doing what the people want.

We had such a nice civilization, I miss it.
It wasn’t that nice. It led to this, after two centuries of horrors. We can’t understand this fascist administration without the long history of western hypocrisy advocating for liberalism and human rights on one hand while feeling entitled to the domination of women, POC and nature on the other.

MAGA is just putting an end to this hypocrisy by fully embracing its sense of entitlement to domination and destruction, in a malevolent race to the bottom. But it didn’t invent any of this: it was always there.

Exactly, Israel is a country.

Israel, the country, is committing genocide.

Israel, the country, is illegally invading and occupying neighbouring countries.
The American Voters handed control of the most powerful Democracy to a bunch of inept, unqualified, and clueless charlatans.
Should we be surprised at what remains of our Country in three more years?
The US was never a true democracy, so they didn't have that far to fall.

Hey, GOP voters and abstainers, how many kids did you kill today?

Way to go passing the buck there, it's every yanks fault.

Your job doesn't end at the voting booth, you have to fight for democracy every day. You all apathetically sat on your hands and watched the lunatics take over the asylum and screeched, "not my fault, I voted for the Dems" and continued to sit on your hands and do nothing.

Take responsibility for your country and fight for it.

Hey Republicans, how many kids did you kill today?
Not really a joke, as Jr was a child from that era he should recognize that one.

It was a famous anti war chant from the Viet Nam protests

Hey Hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today!!

Did they? RFK was never at any point more than a potential spoiler for Trump, and even then his campaign obfuscated a lot of his nastier views in exchange for more vague and broad rhetoric about a failing healthcare system.

Even after he dropped out to support Trump, there was a fairly widespread belief that even Trump wouldn't be dumb enough to give him real power.

So while I get the dismissive 'people got what they deserved' whole vibe that people here love I'm not actually sure there's clear evidence that people did vote for this in any significant number.

So just because reasons and you don't like him huh?
I mean, they're pretty good reasons, including (but not even remotely limited to) the deaths of almost a hundred people on Samoa, most of who were kids.

And now he's doing the same but on a much larger scale. He's an anti-vax wonk and a terrible human being.

If that's who you want to tie your cart to, have at it, but don't expect us to respect you for it.

That’s sort of the purposeful trap any future attempt to fix this mess will run into. Fixing this will require funds. Funds come from taxes. Raising taxes, even to fix a broken system, plays squarely into one of the republican party’s time-honored, and highly-effective, weapons…framing democrats as “tax and spend” radicals. And the american voter will absolutely buy into this and vote republicans back into power.

It won’t matter if the raising of taxes is exclusively aimed at the millionaire/billionaire class. Those folks control enough media with which to convince voters that the taxes are aimed at them, too.

Apple seed is 100% natural.

Which is one more example of why the "it's natural so it's good for you" movement is full of it.

Another example being modern apples all basically being clones of one another.

Then there's the fact they've been ... selected to be bigger than they otherwise would be.
Yeah, but members of the Cult of Trump may not understand why eating apple seeds is bad. [According to this article I found, they contain a chemical that if they're crushed reacts with enzymes in the stomach to produce cyanide. But you'd need to eat a lot of them to get poisoned. TIL.]

I'd prefer a different counterexample to the "it's natural so it's good for you" movement. Feces are natural (and organic!) but most people don't want to eat them. So you could ask members of that movement if they think eating :rollpoop: is good, and if they'd eat :rollpoop:, as legitimate questions 😁And those are questions everyone, even cultists, can probably understand.
