RFK Jr.’s dietary guidelines: Beef tallow is in, but no booze for breakfast

I don't understand their food pyramid -- the text says to focus on whole grains and eat 2-4 servings a day, but what appears to be a bowl of brown rice and some stray oatmeal pieces are at the very bottom of the pyramid, way lower than the bottle of oil. Am I supposed to eat more oil than oatmeal?

And why tell me to consume full-fat dairy products while also telling me to reduce saturated fat? Over half the fat in whole milk is saturated fat.

Honestly I couldn't even read the article when you started it by stating "Anti-vaccine Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr...." Its clear that your biased so why waste the time to read it.

Oh and meat CAN be a part of a healthy diet. Tons of protein.
If it seems offensively biased to you when an article starts out with simple and true facts, that might say more about your belief system than about the article.

Theory: The Heritage Foundation corrupted Conservatives are trying to shorten the lives of the peasantry so they don't have to invest in employee retirement. Or something like that.
Only the Oligarchy knows to eat a healthy diet. Or something like that.
IASSOTS. Idiocracy on display.
Just remember.. all ‘their’ kids are fully vaccinated
(and have full medical insurance and effectively free tuition)

This is an outstanding move away from the recommendations over the last 50 years that have left Americans fatter and less healthier than anywhere else.

Lean meat, fish, poultry combined with raw veggies and fruits is absolutely the healthiest way to maintain weight, in conjunction with 10k steps per day and a few days/week of resistance training.

They could literally announce a cure for cancer, and it would be downvoted here on Ars.
If it hasn't been said, you are getting downvoted because what you said has little resemblance to the new recommendations. Beef is not lean, there's no poultry, canned veggies are not raw veggies...

I only eat whole roasted birds. It's about time my choices were validated!

But seriously, what a crock of bullshit. Today I'm more incensed by far about ICE murdering people in cold blood. But there is room to be upset about this too.

If by chance I go to hell, at least I'll have the satisfaction of seeing all these anti-humans burning there too, in the deepest and fieriest circles. Looking forward to it.

Dr. Mole, jusst where are our eye‑worms?

I much appreciated those! Although I guess there have been several infestaons in their brains...
I feel like the eye worms have taken over.

I for one don't welcome our new eye-worm overlords and their idiot / orange human puppets.

Since that claim has appeared here so often, I have to assume it is written on a gas station bathroom wall somewhere in dumbfuckenstan. And the idiot parrots repeating that seem to think that the anti-science goons like RFK Jr. (who shut down all medical research) is going to magically find a cure for cancer (as though there is only one kind). Stupid is as stupid does. Projection is the stupids best way of pretending to be smart, but that does not work here, and reading is not something they can perform competently, even if it is just reading the room.

We're talking about the folks that think 164 pages is the same as 453 pages...so probably, yes.
Counting is hard, and math is impossible. Felon45 claims to have reduced the drug prices by 1,500%, or even more, depending on what his most recent lie happens to be. And due to him, gasoline is now priced at under $2.00 per gallon (a very dated imperial unit of measure that he does not even understand).

This was the one place I was hoping one of Bobby's crusades might get us something useful, by at least beginning to define what highly-processed foods are. But nope, just the same vague eat less of it.

I might be overly optimistic here (truly rare for me) but I have felt for a while if we could start getting some useful definitions of what highly-processed is, there would be companies who could start selling "non highly-processed"versions of things, which could be helpful.

I know real food you cook yourself is ideal, but sometimes the convenience of being able to buy things is really useful, and being more easily able to find less bad options would be nice.

What sort of websites are you frequenting?
You only have to visit the loony tunes websites once without some form of ID blocking to get on their "prime supporters" contact list. Even a visit to Amazon or eBay to look and some amazingly stupid thing for sale can get you on their "here's more idiot things for sale, just like that" list, if you don't use a prophylactic like VPN. Marketing types are human parasites. I know people who once visited a loony website like "Truth [sic] Social" unprotected, that subsequently got continual appeals for money to fight the Unpatriotic, Anti-American, Radical Left, Antifa [sic] Assults [sic] on Bible believing real American Democracy [sic] and the US Constitution [sic].

Where in the pyramid does road kill sit?
At the top, but only if it has been "cured" over multiple days with a sufficient level of brain-worms.
And skunks really belong in the must eat group, how else could anyone even stand to be next to Feon45, given his body odor?

Careful what you wish for! Highest tax rate for federal income tax was a whopping 91% for income over $200,000. Obviously, we're talking 1955 dollars - but 91% is still eye watering.
And the upside was that there were far fewer sociopathic (or even psychopathic) billionaires controlling the US? What is your imagined downside? Or, are you like so many of the MAGA imbeciles who envision themselves as temporarily distressed million/billionaires? Musk claims that unlimited abundance is just around the corner, and money will soon have no meaning, while simultaneously insisting that he deserves a $1T bonus. But then he is also a perpetually drugged out, continually lying Nazi.

I was also expecting more from Dr. Mole here, like It’s not even a pun. “Host-master General” maybe? Or what about, “former three-time case study and HHS Sec. RFK Jr.,” that one’s not really a pun though.

… well the validity of longevity blue zones is a contentious issue right now
https://allthatsinteresting.com/blue-zones-supercentenarians
But there’s some suggestion that in fact we have centuries of proof that old people lie
Decades ago it was discovered that a region of Russia boasting of 140 year old residents was all a fraud. The young men took their father's names to avoid the military draft, and the young women took their mothers names to reduce their taxes (when both were alive). What a surprise.

“So, there is alcohol on these dietary guidelines, but the implication is don’t have it for breakfast.”
And how am I supposed to read the news these days without whiskey in my coffee?

Make sure the coffee is decaf. You'll be plenty jittery already, without it.

I love it when all the answers are in what's been quoted.

Either that's a conscious choice that you had the ability to make due to wider food access, or it's all that's available and wasn't exactly a choice. See:

If all you have is rice and beans, you eat rice and beans. If all you have is rice and fish, you get over it (or you redefine fish as not an animal). If you have rice and beans and fish and beef and milk and so on, then you get to choose to limit your diet because it won't kill you.

Also the Jains, some Sikhs. It sorta follows that the more personhood you imbue into non-persons, the less likely you are to nakedly exploit them. Some Jains take it all the way to its logical conclusion.
Plants are people too!

Its the FELON47 diet. He wants you to eat oil. Preferably Venezuelan crude.

Not even close to what the marginal tax should be, which is 99.24%.

Of course not. It clearly indicates that all breakfast cereals should be cooked in beef tallow, and then served with milk mixed with beef tallow liquid.

And all of the saturated fat is located in conservatives heads, since there is plenty of open space.

Don’t be so ungrateful

Trump is giving you a Presidential BallRoom, an arc duh triumph ( he’s keeping the Jet from Qatar and the cash from the Venezuelan oil) not to mention all those beautiful golden accents …
And don’t forget all those unregulated coal powered AI data centers that will soon dot the land

I know this has been referred to as a "food pyramid" by Secretary Brainworm himself, but I don't think it actually is a food pyramid. It's more like a revamped, triangle version of the "MyPlate" graphic. It shows three categories of food and implies that people should eat some of each of them: some proteins, some veggies, and some grains. I don't think there is an intended suggestion that people should eat a lot of red meat and very little grain.

One good thing about this new graphic (unlike the old [pre-myplate] food pyramid) is that it doesn't imply that 50% of our diet should be grains.
It's a terrible infographic, but the guidelines aren't nearly as bad as I thought they'd be, after reading them.

Avoid UPFs, avoid sweetened foods, avoid deep-fried foods, eat whole grains, protein, dairy, omega 3s, fruits and veggies, drink less alcohol. This is overall good advice, even if the beef tallow bit is weird, and recommending red meat is less than helpful.

Given the times and the country, this could have been one hell of a lot worse.

Why is it with Bobby Jr trying to kill people? Decades of research say he's wrong.
Probably the same thing as always - greed. Most of his sycophants are invested in woo supplements. If he undermines the information coming out of the government he can turn people to the crap his friends are selling.

They could literally announce a cure for cancer, and it would be downvoted here on Ars.

Know why you have to use the entirely hypothetical “could” there? Oh yeah, it’s because the Republicans cut cancer research funding.

Stupid fucking windup ghouls.
Yes, but not because people on Ars would downvote anything true. If he announced such a thing, it would be clear to anyone with a third grade education that he's lying and trying to promote a fraud that's paying him. But, idiots would be here to tell us we're wrong for using actual science to determine that.

So we’re going to fight heart disease and colon cancer with cheeseburgers?

I guess we use cholesterol to fight cholesterol. I mean homeopathy has been a word long enough that it must be science by now? /s
That's the American way.
Beef, burgers and guns. Solves every health problem in the patrioticall way.

Mixed bag overall, but for no good reason. Updating the guidelines to reflect what (most) clinicians and researchers have known for a long time about sugar and processed food is long overdue and it has been a failure of the system to - similarly, for no good reason - be unresponsive. But it appears to have been done by coincidence essentially, with an anti-science angle that elevates unhealthy foods.

And I'm wondering now if the guidelines will actually be fixed in good time and order when these clowns are out. Somehow I doubt it, except maybe to go back to promoting sugar like lobbyists want. We just can't have nice things.
The influence of the sugar lobby on guidelines is overstated by those pushing the kind of advice RFK, Jr. dispenses: https://sigmanutrition.com/episode567/
