Seems like FOMO is a 'grass is always greener' effect. Being an observer might be more preferable than certain social situations. It does create a desire for it, though.
You raise an interesting point. Are these researchers (society's ultimate outside-looking-in observers) just inflicting these mice with the FOMO
they feel? Ostracism loves company, even more than misery does.
I'm not saying these researchers are going to graduate right to implanting dopamine triggers in people as a way of making friends, but I'm not
