Gurman claims that Apple is working on a "tabletop robot" that "resembles an iPad mounted on a movable limb that can swivel and reposition itself to follow users in a room." The device will also turn toward people who are addressing it or toward people whose attention it's trying to get.

Umm...this sounds more like a short-lived novelty item than something with any actual utility.

Would be very useful for calls to grandma or for telepresence at work.

Not much more useful than a $20 webcam.

Like I said: it's a novelty, with the limited market that implies. I think this is vaporware that will never see the light of day.
