I'm gonna do something I get mad at people for lol, but I didn't read the article. At all. Because I don't want even teaser spoilers, prefer to go in cold.

I'm posting though because I do want to say I enjoyed the first season (have not read the books) and if anyone was on the fence I say it's worth it.

You have to suspend a little disbelief at times, as is usual in these fanciful high concept bits, there's stuff that doesn't make sense if you overthink it. But if you can silence that part of your brain and just roll with it I found it compelling and well acted and a good time.

I'll definitely tune in for Season 2.

On topic ) Really enjoyed season 1, will likely resub for season 2 and catching up on Foundation.

Off topic ) Whyyyy do almost all trailers these days open with the "Trailer starts... now" type title card?! Like, I clicked play, I did it, I know it's starting. The actual countdowns drive me nuts. It shouldn't get me so annoyed, but it does.

I haven't seen the series (I have enough to watch on the idiot box already, thank you) but the books were excellent. Every single book offers surprises and twists, coupled with some fairly deep and meaningful interaction between the characters. None of them are really mustache-twirling villains, just people with very different ideas of what is right.

It was the first time for me. Had the same thoughts about it, but wasn’t aware this is a thing now…

I just finally got back to the whole (book) series and finished Shift and Dust (the second and third volumes). Going to be very interesting to see how they'll handle the series as a whole given how Shift goes, considering it doesn't exactly slot into a pre-existing episodic tv series quite as well. But both volumes are pretty integral to telling the whole story.

Though really, I think you can stop after Wool (what I think they'll cover in the TV series) and have a good self-contained story. Sometimes it's better to leave a bit of mystery.

Is it just me, or does this show seem to be back for a second season more quickly than most, especially ones such as this where a fair amount of post CGI editing needs to be done? Not complaining for sure, but this show came out a good deal after Severance, and we’ll be waiting until January for that to continue. I know, different shows have different schedules and the writers strike really put the screws to some…. I’m not complaining, and here’s to hoping this somewhat quicker season to season turnaround becomes more the norm. It’s tough to stay engaged with a show that has multi-year gaps between seasons.

Yeah the 2nd book is suuuuuper dull not sure how they would do that without a substantial rewrite.

This is just "The machine stops" from the 20s but less "stuff is breaking down" and more "21st century evil man running a dystopia". Same basic thing though.
Everyone lives underground and thinks the surface is unlivable, and some "hero" discovers that its all wrong and the surface is perfectly fine. Just add a dash of "evil men in power repressing people because thats what evil men do" and talk about a revolution.
You're pretty far off-base, if they're following the books. The story is a hell of a lot more complicated than that, with people having justifiable motivations in all directions. Plus, the surface isn't perfectly fine. At least not in the way you think.

Yeah the 2nd book is suuuuuper dull not sure how they would do that without a substantial rewrite.
I think other than the slow start to the second book, the second and third are much more "mundane". It loses a lot of the scifi feel.

My one and only problem with the show was that Rebecca Ferguson cannot decide if she's trying to do a generic North American accent or has given up and is speaking closer to her normal Scottish accent. If you can ignore that otherwise funny little back and forth, its a decent enough show. Certainly kept my interest the 1st season and definitely cant wait to watch the 2nd.

Rebecca Ferguson doesn’t have a Scottish accent though. Her mom is English and she now lives in London but she grew up in Sweden and lived there for a large part of her adult life. Which is probably why you find her accent confusing.

I loved the first season. Not a book reader but it was enjoyable sci-fi and I quite like watching Tim Robbins in any capacity especially
I really liked it too. I thought the acting of all actors was superb, probably why I liked it so much. Tim Robbins is great as you say, he really manages to convey the conflicted nature of his character.

I’m not sure I’ll watch the second season though. I know the story and going forward I feel it becomes too much of “outside control of society by a powerful but secret agent” trope that is all too common in American storytelling.

After watching the first season I "spoiled" myself by reading the books. The trailer is quite spoilery, it was smart not to watch it.

The show has been better than the first book. Interesting derivative of Fallout lore.
I don't see it that way. I see a lot of the roots of it in plenty of other sci fi works. Especially generation ship stories, which are very old compared to Fallout.

Oddly enough, the author cites his biggest inspiration being Fraggle Rock. He was fascinated by the underground society.

Here's what the author wrote about the similarity to Fallout:

The wait for Severance S2 has been excruciating...

Silo is great, go watch the first season if you haven’t!
It's on the list. I've been waiting for Severance S2 to drop; once that happens, I'll resub to Apple TV+ and catch up on both seasons of Silo; Foundation S2; and Severance S2.

I might give For All Mankind another crack as well; I bounced off it at about the point that they started building the moon colony. But there's enough out there that I probably won't.

Yeah I sure hope somebody got her a voice coach. Or she should just use whatever her natural accent is. If she's from
Georgia (???)
it's not impossible that someone with any accent could be from there. It's just annoying to hear botched American accents.

Yeah, this is a refreshingly quick turnaround. With some notable exceptions, it feels like Apple TV+ does better than lots of others keeping the gaps between seasons reasonable.

I've been a huge SciFi fan for decades. The "Silo" series was my first exposure to Hugh Howey. I was taken aback at how much liked his style of writing and immediately read the entire series. Then I read everything else of his that I could put my hands on. "The Shell Collector" was by far my favorite. I hope he's writing more.

I really enjoyed season 1. It diverged from the books in some fairly important ways but I thought it was adapted well for TV. Honestly, I enjoyed the books but thought the trilogy ended a bit poorly, so I'm hoping the showrunners are aiming to fix those issues by maybe taking the story in a different direction (trying hard not to say anything spoilery here).
