Why not just use a proxy to gamble on one of the millions of websites outside the US?

Or use that perfectly good toilet in one's own bathroom to flush the money away.

Probably more trust that MGM will pay out compared to GambleOffshore.ru.tv.

Still, wouldn't bother with a proxy. Just gives them a way to void your play if you actually win, while happily taking your money if you lose.

I'll admit I have a hard time finding what's newsworthy about this. Casino tournaments are common as dirt on online casinos, which is what this, just ... Arranged by some hotel chain. And then the linking to the easyPLAY Mobile Tournaments Platform just makes this look like a paid ad. I mean, there's MANY casino platforms out there, mobile, non-mobile and both, with and without tournaments. The games pictured are pretty standard, but on the simpler side graphically, pretty ABC.Land-based casinos have been experimenting with online casino games for a long time too.

I just... fail to see anything newsworthy here. What am I missing?

You have to be on their wifi, so you're already there. Think they're just looking to offer a way for people to keep gambling even when they walk away from the machines (to the pool, to the can, wherever).

No no no, it's a new site you found and that you totally didn't create yourself and are even looking to get a YouTube sponsorship for where they give you Pokemon to bet for your videos.

Okay, true dat. But the article seemed a bit too focused on the kind of games available and such, which was puzzling because... that aspect was very "so?". More of a focus on the legality side would've been much appreciated. I guess part of it is because online casinos have been part of the background noise over here for two decades now. Much reinventing of the wheel going on with US casino game makers it seems :p

You missed the point. This only works while connected to MGM wifi, so in other words while you are on the premises. Except now you don't even have to hit the tables. You can do it from the pool, the restaurant, the bathroom, etc.

There's a term for this that escapes me at the moment: basically, this about keeping you from leaving the tables too long. It's about keeping you engaged in gaming, so that your rational impulses don't get a chance to override your response to the skinner box.

Well it is awfully well timed with Cisco Live! this week. And they were handing out Pi's there. Do what you will with that information.

Pure speculation, but I'm guessing the wifi requirement has to do with the gaming board. They're just not comfortable with people walking into traffic while slot machine-ing or addicts leaving the casino... & still not getting away from the games.

Or maybe the casino's license is specifically for their property, & offering games anywhere on the strip would violate it?

Pokémon slots? Yeah, that'd be scary. Having the correct theme for slots has shown to get people to sit down and play whereas they wouldn't have given I a 2nd thought before.

A president at Nintendo once said "Mario will never start shooting hookers". Hopefully, they'll extend that to using their IP in gambling apps and software.

The wait now begins to see how long it takes for someone to hack one these gambling apps, circumvent the security, and manipulate the app to to force - or forge - a winning play. It's going to happen, and by a team of organized and skilled hackers... Should be an interesting read once it happens and if, 1.) the methods were disclosed and 2.) it's written up by Ars :)

Another app, another hack, and more criminals to sack. Anyone else love reading about these stories!? They are a lot of fun in my opinion :D

Station Casinos' sports betting app makes you add money in-person (with ID) and then turn off WiFi and Bluetooth on your phone and requires a location check every time you open the app. No idea how similar this system will be, but they seem to be willing to sacrifice usability to prevent this sort of thing from happening. That being said, I've used the app for a couple of years and rather enjoy it.

It's not going to happen. Internet casinos are, for very obvious reasons, extremely paranoid about security. Pretty much NOTHING happens on the user's end; it's an extremely dumb client. Everything is done on the server side of thing. Same thing here. The input from the computer/phone/whatever used to play have no effect on the result.

Online casinos have been a really big deal in Europe for a long time now, multi-billion dollar. Now, try and guess how many times organized and skilled hackers have managed to manipulate them?

I still don't really get it, if I'm in the MGM why would I ever do this over going to an actual real table? I see their side of it, they want you gambling 24/7, but from the consumer POV this is garbage
