The only silver linings here (and my immediate thought before reading the article), are that Hubble is nearing the end of its service life, and Webb is out at L2, operating perfectly and far from the orbital "pollution" of Musk, the Chinese, and others. Much harder to do on a technical level, but I think La Grange type orbits are going to be the only viable solution for some future space telescopes. Also curious how badly all these (let's face it: mostly unnecessary) constellations are going to impact ground-based facilities like VLT and upcoming ELT as well. What an absolute travesty if the reckless commercialism putting these things into orbit even partially hamstrings the science done (and beauty of imagery captured) by these programs. My misanthropic tendencies grow by the week.
