do people still make much use of any pads beyond watching video?
Don't let your lack of imagination limit you. I use my iPad on a constant basis as my notetaking machine, as well as a reference tool. I use my iPad pro constantly. Video watching is the last thing on the list.

Toss the SoC, let me drive the screen via DP alt mode while exposing the keyboard, pen and touchscreen as USB devices and you’d have a genuinely interesting product.

Unfortunately, if history is any guide, that’s either unavailable or removing much of the BoM mysteriously causes the price to double.

So you are interested if it was a completely different product than the what it currently is. Thank you for your contribution, no matter how dubious.

The stylus and keyboard cover for my iPad mini have nothing to do with video watching either. Admittedly, the stylus has nothing to do with anything - I bought it because “ooh, that’s nice” and turned out never to use it, but the keyboard is another matter…

This looks kinda meh!

If you are not in the apple camp and want a good andriod tablet but also don't want to pay the samsung tax. I picked up the Lenovo P12 Pro tablet and its been great so far.

8GB Ram / 256 GB storage
2560 x 1600 OLED 120hz
JBL Quad speakers
Snapdragon 870
Andriod 12 / 13
Battery 10200 mAh
I can't fathom how much coverage OnePlus and the new Pei firm get on Ars in particular but also int he US in general and even wwide, for stuff that's utterly me-too, but with hype. They must have a top-dollar PR firm.

Lenovo's tablets are great, with passable support (Android: 2 OS updates, get the ChromeOS ones and you get 8yrs), some great form factors, a killer feature (battery protection), ... The P line rocks, M line is Fire with no silly launcher. Not a peep on Ars.

I agree Lenovo has released some good tablets recently that are alot more price competitive than samsung offerings. And yes they should get alittle more coverage than one plus on this site.

If it's priced aggressively then sure, but otherwise, I don't think Android is able to offer a 'Prosumer' value proposition in the tablet space. I'm not even super confident Apple can, but I know for sure Android isn't there yet.
I use a samsung s6 lite with pen on android. I am a highschool teacher. I use it more than my laptop. It is great. Drawings in powerpoint. (you can animate them such that they are redrawn as the original) Kids send a photo of a problem they cannot solve from home, I add a few notes to help them on their way.

My board schemes (Still use board and chalk) are all done in onenote. Excercises they have to make are pasted in there with a copy of the solution and notes from previous years. Student sick in hospital? Gets a copy of my preparations. It is a sturdy workflow.

On one occasion, I forgot the tablet at home. Just used my smartphone to view my onenote notes.

Already convinced three colleagues to jump on the android tablet wagon.

I considered I-pads, but the thing gets abused a lot and they are a lot pricier. The write feel is a little bit better on apple devices though. Holding wood, but the s6 is coping well with day to day (ab)use.

There are some smaller Chinese brands that do so, such as Chuwi. (I have a Chuwi HiPad Plus which has a 11" 1.36 = 15:11 = 4:2.95 AR 2176x1600 screen, so basically 4:3.)
Thanks for letting me know about this. I didn't really know about this brand before but I will keep an eye out for them from now on.

I disagree, I bought a OnePlus 3T, great phone, great price (less that £350). Now we are supposed to be thinking we are getting a bargain at not too far short of double that
Not just a bargain, but it will take on the iPad!

/s tag with eyes rolling so hard they damn near popped out of my head
